Check how Google is saving 40 per cent on energy bills

Google is using artificial intelligence to save as much as 40 per cent of energy it uses to cool its vast data centres.
According to the reports, the energy consumed at these centres, where Google processes all the information consumed by its users, could account around 2 per cent of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions. However, Google has claimed responsibility of 0.01 per cent of global electricity.
The technology has been created at DeepMinds, a Cambridge-based artificial intelligence company, which was acquired by Google in the year 2014. The company used machine learning to understand the environment at the centres and made it more efficient, aimed towards reducing power usage.
Google said that DeepMind’s software has managed to reduce 15 per cent of total energy usage across 12 centres based in America, Europe and Asia. The company also added that it now gets 3.5 times of computing power out of the same amount of energy as it did five years ago.
In a blogpost, Google said that it is expecting to increase its energy usage at the rate of four per cent from 2014 to 2020. The company is also looking to be completely powered by renewable energy.According to Google, the data centre algorithm can be used to improve efficiency in other areas. In addition, the company also plans to benefit separate companies that are running on its cloud from the improved efficiency at the centre.
New pill-sized robots to help stomach issues

Suffering from Stomach issues? Swallowing a robot could be a solution now.
A team of researchers at MIT and the Tokyo institute of Technology have developed a tiny indigestible robot, named origami robot that can be swallowed to complete specific task within the body. The robot can unfold itself from a swallowed capsule and, steered by external magnetic fields, crawl across the stomach wall to remove a swallowed button battery or patch a wound.
Daniel Rus, Director at MIT CSAIL explained, ‘The robot can remove foreign objects, it can patch wounds, or can deliver medicine at designated locations.’‘The challenge with designing an indigestible robot is finding biocompatible materials that are easy to be controlled and amenable to the types of operations that are needed of the robot,’ she added.
Initially, researchers demonstrated the robot by folding the structure into an ice capsule, which then travels down the esophagus into the stomach, where the ice melts and the robot unfolds to its functional form. Thus, the robot can now be controlled by an external magnetic field to do work, such as removing swallowed batteries.According to the reports, around 3,500 button batteries are swallowed every year in the US alone.
Though, the tiny batteries can be digested, but when they come into contact with the stomach tissue, it can burn the tissue and can be embedded. The origami robot has been designed to remove such batteries without going through surgeries.Rus said, ‘Once inside the stomach, the robot can be directed to attach to the battery. It will further lift the battery from the coating and will eliminate it through the digestive system.’
