Okka Ammayi Thappa Review – 2.25/5

Share

Story:

Okka Ammayi Thappa is more about what happened in Kandhahar more than a decade ago. Here in the film, a group of terrorists led by Anwar (Ravikishan), create a traffic jam on a Flyover in Hitech City. They plant a bomb on the flyover and try to blackmail the government for the release of their Terrorist leader, Aslam (Rahul Dev). On that fateful day, there are also Krishna (Sundeep Kishan) along with Nithya (Nitya Menon) who also gets stranded in the traffic jam. What happens next in the story further forms the rest.

Performances:

Sundeep Kishan is a perfect fit in the role of Krishna Vachan and pulled it off very convincingly. Nithya Menon is a disappointment as all she did in the film is sitting in an auto and waiting for the traffic jam to be cleared. Ravikishan gets a role almost equal to the hero but is too loud at most of the times. Ali does a passable job in the first half while the other comedians Venu Tillu, Fish Venkat, Saptagiri and others failed to get any laughs.

Technical Performances:

Firstly, the title Okka Ammayi Thappa has no relevance to the story. The film is more like Bollywood Thriller, A Wednesday. The subject is novel to Telugu film industry and all it needs some good screenplay and gripping narration to drive the point home. But the debut director Rajasimha Thadinada missed it by a mile. The Love track finally ended up as big mistake as it deviated the director from the prime story and at the same time could not serve the purpose being totally detached of any emotions. The first half is just average while the second half has some good scenes in the Pre-Climax. Comedy failed to make any impact.

Mickey J Meyer came up with a decent album. Couple of songs like Kotha Kathale and Yegirene have come up well on screen. Chota K Naidu’s camera work is excellent. The locales of Kashmir in Yegirene song are aesthitically shot. Editing should have been sharp in the first half. Production Values are appropriate.

Plus Points:

Sundeep Kishan Performance

Couple of songs

Pre-Climax scenes

Minus Points:

Poor Screenplay and no gripping narration

Bad Comedy

Disappointing Love Track

Final Say:

Okka Ammayi Thappa is another instance of a honest subject getting killed by a debut director. The movie may be a one time watch, if you are a big fan of Sundeep Kishan/Nithya Menen or if you are longing to watch those few good scenes (on Communal Harmony) in the second half.

Sources said that Chiranjeevi evinced interest to set up a film studio in the name of his surname ‘Konidela’ in the city. He sought government’s support for the proposed project.

My TV channel & paper is not for Naidu – Jagan

Following reports that AP government is mulling to takeover Sakshi media group, the owner of Sakshi Group and YSR Congress President YS Jaganmohan Reddy said his channel and paper were established for the cause of people and not to support Naidu and his government.

“Naidu has been resorting to the curtailing of freedom of speech media and press by blocking television channels, including Sakshi, for objective reporting. This is a bad precedent,” Jagan said and exhorted other media groups to come forward and condemn the blockade of Sakshi news channel in Andhra Pradesh.

“Naidu’s government curtailed freedom of speech by obstructing the TV channel from telecasting news on Kapu reservation,” Jagan added. Earlier today and late yesterday, there were reports that Sakshi TV’s programs were blocked by the area operators in Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas.

‘If YSR Is God, Am I Devil?’ Chandrababu

AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu has breathed fire on Kapu patriarch and former MP Mudragada Padmanabham over the latter’s unjust fast demanding the acquittal of the arrested youths who caused terror in Tuni during the Kapu reservation agitation in January.

Babu said that Mudragada hailed YSR as a god and asked him “if YSR was god, am I a devil?” Babu alleged that YSR did nothing for Kapus despite stating in his 2005 election manifesto that he will include Kapus in BCs. However, YSR didn’t keep his promise.

Babu said that he formed a Kapu corporation and yet another corporation to devise the feasibility to include Kapus into BCs. The TDP chief lamented that despite doing much for the welfare of the Kapus, Mudragada is seeing him as an enemy and a devil.Babu also condemned Mudragada’s demands for the immediate release of the culprits who destroyed public and private assets during the Tuni violence. The CM said that his government will do all it needs to keep a check to lawbreakers.

AP Student’s Open Letter To KTR

Over the past couple years since the formation of the new government, Telangana’s Minister of IT KTR has been claiming that despite Telangana being the ‘youngest state in the country’ the state is developing at an exceptional rate. However, in an open letter to KTR, an AP student rebuked the minister over his ‘false’ claims. Written by an anonymous student, this letter is currently going viral on social media.

Dear KTR, Minister of IT, Telangana State, India,

Of late, I’ve seen you deliver some lovely speeches; like the wonderful one you delivered when Tim Cook, Apple CEO visited Hyderabad and today I saw another one you delivered at TIE conference in Silicon Valley. I love the way you deliver those speeches.

But, in every speech; you refer to Telangana as “The Youngest State of India” and this statement of yours makes me think and gives rise to a lot of questions…

If Telangana is really the ‘Youngest State’ and the new born state, then

How does it have a Mega Capital ready and operating from day 1?

How does the new state has a Metro-project ready to be launched?

How does it have Microsoft, Google and the IT eco-system in which other tech giants are ready to jump in?

How does it have the world class ISB, IIIT, IIT Hyderabad producing great talents?

How does it have one of the best Airports in the country and amazing road connectivity?

How does it have Surplus, well indeed excess budget ?

Last but definitely not the least, how does the ‘youngest state’ have a mega cyber city fully functioning and generating thousands of crores of taxes for your party to spend on advertising ?

None of these qualities seem to be that of a “New Born State” or “Youngest State of India” and something is definitely wrong here.

I’ll tell you what actually is the youngest state in the country is; a state that the country itself is not ready to help. The worst part of the entire scenario is, the Prime Minister of the country himself is not ready to help the state; only to see the chances of his political party grow in the state.

Mr. KTR, that state is Andhra Pradesh and I have a few more questions; whose answers will perhaps enlighten you as to why Andhra Pradesh is the youngest state in the country.

Why do I have a feeling that Andhra Pradesh is the youngest state that the country has to take care of like a budding plant until it is strong and firm and independent?

Why do I have a feeling that the fact that Andhra Pradesh doesn’t have a capital to function from, makes it the youngest state?

Why do I have a feeling that Andhra Pradesh, whose employees aren’t ready to move to its capital for the lack of facilities and its CM is sleeping in bus and operating from a temporary building is the new state ?

Why do I have a feeling that a state trying hard to build the IIT, IIM and other institutes, for which the funds given by the Government of India for these very institutes won’t even cover the building of boundary walls of the institutes, is the newborn state?

Why do I have a feeling that the state without IT sector, Industries and a state that is in a Budget Crisis every quarter is the new state?

Why do I have a feeling that the state that was deceived by the Govt of India and is struggling to build everything from scratch with the help of Countries around the world while the very own Country is stuck accessing Political Advantages is the “Youngest State”?

My anger is on those claiming the Youngest state tag and the contradictory richness.

My anger is on the Country and its Citizens ignoring the Newborn state and left it to one hard working person with no support within the Country.

My anger is on the Country and its Citizens who are constantly ignoring the state and left the entire burden of making the state a success on the shoulders of one hardworking man with no support from the Country.

Keep giving those great speeches after clarifying on the Youngest State line.

Thanks,
Citizen of Andhra Pradesh.
