Regarding the request of banning triple talaq, approximately 50,000 men and women have signed a petition. Supervised by the Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA), the organisation has sought the intervention of the National Commission of Women to end the unquranic practice. Co-founder of BMMA Zakia Soman said that a national signature campaign was underway in various states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, MP, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala and UP.Further info added by soman is “So far, 50,000 signatures have been collected where women and men have endorsed abolition of triple talaq, many more signatures will be collected in the coming days.
We have written to NCW chairperson Dr Lalitha Kumaramangalam to enlist its support to this long-pending demand of Muslim women.”A survey took recently showed that 92% of Muslim women wanted an end to that practice, along with the practice of ‘nikah halala’, which says that a woman must marry another man, consummate the marriage before she is allowed to remarry her husband. This has been a bane for the women who do not receive any maintenance or alimony and are left fending for themselves and their children.Men get away with messages on Facebook, SMS’ or over the phone talaqs. Even the qazis support them and not the women. “In many cases, the qazis offer themselves as temporary husbands,” added Noorjehan Safia Niaz.
The campaign has come in the wake of a recent Supreme Court petition by Dehradun-based Shayara Bano demanding abolition of the practice. To this, BMMA has been advocating reconciliation and mediation where the divorce process is carried out over a period of 90 days. The petition further adds, “Muslim women are citizens of India and all constitutional safeguards are applicable to her (sic). The Muslim personal law must be reformed in such a manner that all discriminatory practices are struck down as illegal and Muslim women’s constitutional and Quranic rights are safeguarded.”
In almost all theaters, “Brahmotsavam” is coming to the termination of its screening. So, the distributors have sent an estimation of Rs 35 Cr loss to the producer PVP.”Brahmotsavam” was sold to distributors to high prices as the demand was such. Since this is immediate film from Mahesh Babu after the record-breaking blockbuster “Srimanthudu” last year, many distributors in several areas bought it for record prices. PVP got good table profit with this movie.
But the movie ended up as a complete damp squib. So all the distributors have formed a club and sent a rough estimation of Rs 35 Cr loss. The heavy losers are distributors of Ceded, Overseas and Nizam territories.
Technically, PVP doesn’t have to repay but he is agreeing to compensate some amount once Mahesh Babu lands in Hyderabad from his Europe trip. Mahesh Babu is currently holidaying with wife and kids in London. The matter will be resolved once he is back.

Naga Chaitanya, Gautham Vasudev Menon’s much delayed Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo film is finally getting ready for release. The film is all set to release in July.Theatrical trailer of Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo was released online and it will be also attached with A Aa prints that is going to release tomorrow.
SSS has Gautham Menon’s stamp all over it. It has cool visuals, impressive music by AR Rahman and the trailer gives an idea about the film.Going by the trailer, SSS is about a road trip of a few youngsters that faces some rough hurdles in the way. Looks like a promising plot, but the trailer lacks the punch as it moves at a snail’s pace.
Naga Chaitanya’s dialog delivery in the trailer seems very bad and doesn’t raise interest over the film. Gautham and Chaitanya’s previous film together was a classic.Film lovers and Chay fans would expect something as magical as Ye Maya Chesave, but SSS fails to impress with its trailer. Hope the film turns out to be a better one, unlike the trailer.
Once in a while, some small and low budget films come out and surprise everyone with their collections. One such film which is creating a havoc at the box office is the Marathi film Sairat. This low budget realistic drama has stunned everyone and has collected 75 crores at the box office. Yes! 75 crores and still counting at the ticket window. Only made with a creed budget of 4 crores, this film also won a national award this year.
The film which opened in only certain circuits over Maharastra citing it is a art film is now playing in multiplexes as well and still raking moolah at the box office. Nagaraj Manjule directs this love story which has won so many local awards.
This is the first time that a low budget film in Marathi has gone on to set the box office on fire. The film makers are being pressurized for the remake as many writers down south want to remake the film. When certain films like these impress the audience, you only feel that the future of Indian cinema is in safe hands.
