After winning the hearts with female-centric movies Arundathi and Rudramadevi, Anushka will be seen in the titular role of Bhagmati. Though it’s common knowledge by now, the latest is that the film’s director Ashok has zeroed in on a noted Malayalam actor. Well-known face in Mollywood Jayaram has been in roped in for the villain role opposite Sweety.

The actor took to his social-networking page and shared his look from the movie. Now the pics of him from Bhagmati have turned many heads in Malayalam film industry. It’s buzzed that Baahubali actor Prabhas will be seen in a cameo in the film.

Bhagmati was earlier rumoured to be a period drama, but Anushka believed to have clarified later that the film is a modern day thriller.

UK puts music festivals, sporting events, nigh clubs on terror alert

London: Scotland Yard’s senior-most Indian-origin officer has put music festivals, sporting venues and nightclubs in the UK on terror alert, noting that such venues could be the target of the next major attack.Neil Basu, deputy assistant commissioner with the Metropolitan Police and in charge of protective security, said crowded entertainment events and venues were at the top of the agenda after the Paris attacks last November, which killed 130 people.

“This (large venues) is where you put a small town into a small area for a couple of hours. That’s exactly the same with large concert venues and much harder (to safeguard) with a large open-air festival,” he told The Times. He added: “The threat has become much more difficult (to counter) because it’s now potentially any time, any place, anywhere.“These people (terrorists) are perfectly happy to target civilians with the maximum terror impact. Crowded places were always a concern for us, but now they are right at the top of the agenda.”

Basu said there was no specific intelligence to suggest an imminent attack on a sporting arena or music festival. However, members of the Paris terrorist cell are known to have visited Britain last summer and photographs of a football stadium in Birmingham were found on a key plotter’s smartphone.Basu met sports chiefs, including Premier League bosses and music executives, at an anti-terrorism briefing at Wembley stadium last week to drive home the importance of good security at venues.

“(The organisers) of music festivals are invited because they tend to have one big stage with high perimeter security. It’s kind of the equivalent (to a stadium), but even harder to control because their perimeters are much larger,” he said.Basu also recently travelled to France to be briefed on security for the European championship Euro 2016 next month.

Left in the U.K. is divided on EU membership

The two sides appeared as politically distant from each other in the referendum debate as they are with the positions of the official ‘Remain’ and ‘Leave’ campaigns.Addressing a packed auditorium in central London, in a function organised by the pro-‘Remain’ platform ‘A Better Europe is Possible’, former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis; Green Party Member of Parliament Caroline Lucas; Labour MP Clive Lewis; author and journalist Owen Jones and others spoke about the “radical internationalist case for Remain”.

‘Against polarisation’

“Unlike the two official ‘Remain’ and ‘Leave’ campaigns, we are not interested in polarising voters,” Mr. Varoufakis said.“We stand united in our conviction that it is impossible for Britain to have a successful democracy outside the realm of a democratised European Union. However, it is impossible for the European Union to become democratised without a democratic Britain participating in the process,” he addedTaking issue with the two key arguments of the ‘Leave’ campaign, namely, that Britain should leave to defend its sovereignty, and that Britain should leave to control untrammelled immigration, Mr. Varoufakis said voting to leave would only benefit “a national ruling class” that will exercise sovereignty in an “utterly undemocratic” way.

On the ‘Leave’ campaign’s argument that immigration has overwhelmed British public services, he said: “Lest we forget, turning the native poor against migrant labour is a variant of the old divide and rule trick that the British establishment honed ages ago to dominate the empire. Today, the establishment uses the same trick to dominate the domestic labourer, to hide austerity’s effects, and to deflect anger towards the other, the migrant, the foreigner.”

‘Left for Exit’ campaign

At another venue, a seminar entitled ‘Dangerous Times’, organised by the ‘Left for Exit’ campaign group, was in progress. Writer and intellectual Tariq Ali made the Left case for leaving the EU, which he described as a neoliberal institution whose charter does not allow any member state to act independently in protection of its national sovereign rights.Countering the view of the EU being an “internationalist” body, Mr. Ali argued that a supra-national body comprising nation states does not make it internationalist. “Why should the Left express its internationalism through the EU?,” he asked.

With the Leave and Remain campaigns running close together in opinion polls, the odds are almost equal, with the Remain campaign gaining a small edge in recent weeks. “Either way, that is whether we stay or leave, we will see a weakened Tory party and a resurgent Tory right. For the British Left it may not make a massive difference if we leave or stay,” said Feyzi Ismail, an academic and organizer for Lexit.

INSIDE TALK : TRS – BJP honeymoon round the corner!

Share

kcr modi

The much talked about story TRS and BJP partnership is said to happen very soon if the rumours in the political circles are to be believed. BJP President Amit Shah hinted about a possible cabinet alliance. In fact, the rejig is imminent due to the exit of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal from the council of ministers.

Modi has planned to shuffle his entire team and that could be a possible chance to have an alliance with TRS and admit KCR’s daughter, Kavitha in to the cabinet. However that will have a telling effect on the relations between TDP and BJP as TDP and TRS do not see an eye to eye politically.

The union cabinet rejig may be round the corner as some Rajya Sabha inductions which will happen in next month, might be considered for ministerial assignments. Whenever it happens, it will be a big impact on Telugu politics.
