How Suresh Babu Lost Rs 10 Crore?
Producer Suresh Babu might be known for his business acumen. He might have strong foothold in film production, distribution. Yet, even he is not an exception when dealing with the film business and anyone could go wrong in their predictions. Here’s one such classic example where Suresh Babu failed in judging a film’s result in advance and due to which he had to lose over Rs 10 Crore.
Back in 2013, ace producer D Ramanaidu had forayed into Punjabi filmdom with Singh Vs Kaur under Suresh Productions. Made on a shoe-string budget, the film was due for release. It’s then Suresh Babu stepped and sold off the whole film for Rs 5 Crore pocketing a decent profit of Rs 3 Crore. Selling Punjabi films at Rs 5 Crore in 2013 was fancy price and Suresh was quite happy in closing the deal. However, it didn’t last long. As soon as the film hit the screens, the movie opened to superhit talk. Taking many by surprise, the film made over Rs 16.80 Crore world-wide in its full run.
The film had then defeated other Bollywood releases like Kai Po Che, Zilla Ghaziabad in the second week in Punjab. Then Punjab’s highest grosser, even today the film is one of the top grossing films in Punjab. That’s how Suresh Babu had lost nearly Rs 11 Crore. Even today, Suresh Babu must be regretting the decision.
Nagarjuna To Announce Akhil Film Tomorrow
It is no longer a secret that Akhil’s second film will be directed by none other than Vamsi Paidipally, who has become hottest filmmaker after “Oopiri” the heartwarming movie he directed.
The official announcement is said to be made tomorrow. It was on the last leg of production of “Oopiri” that Nagarjuna decided to give the responsibility of directing his son Akhil’s second film to Vamsi as he was so confident that “Oopiri” would bring great name to Vamsi Paidipally. His gut feeling proved right.
The success celebrations of “Oopiri” are to be held tomorrow in Hyderabad and all Nagarjuna’s fans are coming to Hyderabad from both Telugu states to attend this grand ceremony.
On this stage, Nagarjuna will be announcing officially that Akhil’s film would be directed by Vamsi Paidipally.
Akhil Akkineni debuted in Vinayak’s “Akhil” but the movie bombed at box-office. Since then he has been waiting for a right director and script to begin the second movie. The new movie is going to be a youthful entertainer. Annapurna Studios will produce it.
Raashi Khanna’s hot treat to drive youth mad
Vultrous beauty Raashi Khanna is playing the female lead in Supreme hero, Sai Dharam Tej’s next, Supreme. The actress will be seen as a cop in the film. The other day a poster of the film released in which Raashi is at her sensuous best.
The actress reportedly will be treating youth with hot fest in two of the songs in the film. Supreme audio launch event will happen on 14th of this month at Shilpa Kala Vedhika, Hyderabad. They are looking at May end release for the film. The movie is sold out completely even before the shooting is complete.
Abhishek Picture purchased the negative rights of the film for a fancy amount. Negative rights mean all the rights of the film including satellite, dubbing etc. Now the makers of Supreme have to ready the first copy of the film and hand it over to Abhishek Pictures.
The movie comes with a caption, ‘Don’t Sound Horn’ and will see Sai Dharam Tej playing the role of a cab driver. Pataas fame Anil Ravipudi is directing this film. Dil Raju is producing the film on his Sri Venkateswara Creations Banner. Sai Karthik is composing music for the film.
Balakrishna to encourage Trisha
Actress Trisha who is once Top Star Actress in film industry, passed her prime and is rarely getting chances in Tollywood. She last romanced Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Lion. The friendship between Balakrishna and Trisha developed back then and they are still good friends despite the movie failure.
To encourage Trisha, Balakrishna had agreed to be the Chief Guest of Trisha’s next film, Nayaki which will happen at JRC Convention center on 19th of this month. The movie is being planned for May release as Summer Special. Nayaki is a bilingual film which will release in Telugu and Tamil.
Trisha reportedly will be seen in a dual role in the movie. One role features her in a traditional attire, the other role will show Trisha in ultra modern look. She is donning bikini for the second role. Govi is making his directional debut with this film. Trisha herself sang a song in the film.
Mammoth Price for Oopiri Satellite Rights
King Nagarjuna and Tamil Star Karthi’s Oopiri and its Tamil version, Thozha are sensational hits. The content driven film were lapped very much by the audience and also set cash registers ringing. The other day, the movie also crossed 1.5 Million Dollars Gross at USA Box Office making Nagarjuna only Senior hero with two 1.5 Million dollars films.
On the other side, Sun Network bagged the satellite rights of the movie. They reportedly paid a whopping 14 Crore for the satellite rights of both Telugu and Tamil versions. Directed by Vamsi Paidipalli, Oopiri is the remake of the French hit The Intouchables and has music by Gopi Sundar.
There is a buzz that Karan Johar is planning to make the film in Bollywood and wants to give the direction chance of the remake to Vamshi himself. On the other side, the success meet of Oopiri will happen tomorrow at Shilpa Kala Vedhika, Hyderabad. The 100 days function of Soggade Chinni Nayana will also happen there itself.
Mohanlal gets a house in Hyderabad
Superstar Mohanlal who is playing a crucial role in NTR’s Janatha Garage. The makers of the film have erected a house set in Hyderabad which will be Mohanlal’s house in the film. Some family scenes of the film will be shot in this week.
On the other side, the movie shooting is going on at brisk pace Non-stop schedules are planned for the film so that the entire shooting will be completed by mid July. The makers are considering Janatha Garage (with a tagline – Ikkada Anni Repairlu Cheyyabadunu) as the title of the film even though they did not announce it officially.
They are planning to release the movie on August 12th, 2016. The release date works in the movie’s favour as there is a long weekend holiday due to Independence day holiday on Monday. Mytri Film Makers who turned producers with Srimanthudu will be producing this film as well.
Yerineni Naveen, Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar (Thammudu) and CVM (Mohan) are the producers. Music Devil, Devi Sri Prasad will be composing music as Koratala’s previous films – Mirchi and Srimanthudu.
Directionless Mudragada!
What does the future hold for Kapu patriarch Mudragada Padmanabham? Despite his frequent fasts and regular agitations, he appears to be losing steam. Despite Congress background and despite tacit support of YSRCP, he is ploughing a lonely furrow. His agitation without the direct support of any party could gradually weaken him and make the Kapus move away from him.
While Chandrababu is doing everything he can to wean away the Kapus from Mudragada. He had set up Kapu Corporation and has been offering financial assistance. He is also moving closer to giving reservations, though it is not clear when the reservations actually come. More than this, Chandrababu is also luring Kapu leaders from the YSRCP. Jyothula Nehru’s re-entry into TDP would mean end of Mudragada’s influence in East Godavari district.
The only option before Mudragada now is to join the YSRCP, as he is already branded as a YSRCP sympathiser. This will give him a party backing, while the YSRCP will get a boost. If he demands reservations as a YSRCP leader, it could benefit both him and the party.
Mudragada is already facing allegations that he has taken the Kapu stir to the peaks and then dumped it. How he will handle these allegations and secure his political future in the days to come will decide the future of the Kapu stir.
Naidu happy over Pawan Kalyan’s statement
TDP sure appears quite happy with actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan. The other day, he announced that he was slowly phasing out his film career and would take part in the 2019 elections.
But, he made it clear that his party would not contest all the seats and will fight in only some seats. This is music to TDP ears.
MLC and senior leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu has even said that Pawan can have a pact with the TDP. “After all, Pawan is friendly with us and he has helped us in the last elections,” he said.
The TDP is now happy about Pawan’s statement that his party could fight some seats and that it could take years to build the party. For the TDP, Pawan is no longer a threat.
