Some fans are even alleging that Vijay copied this scene on Theri. Well folks, let’s wait until the film’s release to know the truth!

Whenever TDP leaders visited Governor Narasimhan over the implementation of section 8 in Hyderabad, he used to take representations from them but there would be no further action on the matter. This gave rise to the allegation that the Governor was pro-TRS.

But when T-Congress leaders visited him demanding section 8 after they were attacked in Old City by the Owaisi brothers, the Governor immediately summoned Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy and took stock of the situation.

Following this, cases were booked against the Owaisi brothers and MIM cadre. But for the Governor, it is highly unlikely that the TRS would have taken even this minimum action against the MIM with whom they have an electoral understanding.

But the response of the Governor on the different occasions is interesting. He was quick to act no whereas he was always lukewarm to the TDP. Probably because there was no reported case of violence against the TDP cadre or leaders then.

Nannaku Prematho Crosses 2 Million Dollars

‘Nannaku Prematho’ has finally crossed the two million dollars mark in USA. On Feb 4th, the movie achieved this feat. Only third Telugu film to achieve this in North American market after ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Srimanthudu’.

While Rajamouli’s mega movie “Baahubali” has grossed nearly seven million dollars, Mahesh Babu’s “Srimanthudu” came near to touch the three million dollars mark but couldn’t do so. Third position belongs to NTR’s “Nannaku Prematho”.

Although “Nannaku Prematho” film has already become third highest grosser in USA market by crossing Attharintiki Daardedi’s gross of 1.89 million dollars in the second week of its run but it took another ten days to cross the two coveted two million dollars mark.

The film has raked in more than Rs 50 cr worldwide share but only in overseas territory that it is bringing profits to the distributors. Incidentally, “Nannaku Prematho” is also biggest grosser in NTR’s career.

Biggest Movie For Sudhir Babu

sudhir babu

Despite some average grossers, the identity of Sudhir Babu in Tollywood is that he is the brother-in-law of Mahesh Babu. And it is his brother-in-law Mahesh again who is taking a step to consolidate Sudhir’s career.

Mahesh Babu who officially turned a producer with ‘Srimanthudu’ will now be producing a film with Sudhir Babu as the hero. Srinu Vaitla is the director.

Normally, it would have been difficult for Sudhir Babu to get a movie in the direction of a top director like Srinu Vaitla. But thanks to successive disasters in the form of ‘Aagadu’ and ‘Bruce Lee’, Srinu Vaitla is also out of work.

Thus, Mahesh’s initiative has made it a win-win situation for everyone. It is now up to Vaitla and Sudhir Babu to justify Mahesh’s faith in them.

NTR Gives Hand To Him Again!

Writer Vakkantam Vamsi has been waiting for so long to make debut as director. NTR Jr. promised to do a film under his direction and even Kalyan Ram announced that he will produce the movie in this combination. NTR is supposed to start that film after Koratala Siva’s Janata Garage.

But NTR decided to go with Puri Jagannadh’s film after he is done with Janata Garage. So Vakkantam Vamsi has to wait for another year to turn director or look for another hero.

Vakkantam wanted to make Temper with NTR but has given away the story to Puri Jagan on the actor’s request. He has written another story that has been approved by Tarak, but it looks like he is deliberately delaying it.

Maybe NTR is playing safe by doing movies with established directors at the moment. He may not want to take a risk by doing a movie with an inexperienced director. But making someone wait for years and years without fulfilling the promise isn’t right.

Superstar Returns Half Of Dilwale Fee

As we all know, Shah Rukh Khan’s much-hyped Dilwale didn’t quite live up to expectations at the domestic box office. Moreover, a few distributors too incurred heavy losses. Now, in a truly unexpected development, it seems that the 50-year-old star is set to help those who suffered losses. For Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale, Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chilles Entertainment turned distributor for the first time. They sold most of their territories in India and kept few areas like Mumbai with them.

As the film was high on buzz and the return of SRK-Kajol was the highlight, the film was sold at a premium price. However, due to certain controversies that got snowballed after Shah Rukh’s statement on intolerance, lot of regions didn’t get a proper release. Unfortunately, most of the shows had to be cancelled in few states of the country due to protest by various right wing organisations.

They threatened to stop the screenings at local cinemas. Due to all this, the overall collections took a beating. The worldwide collections of Dilwale is the highest for any Shah Rukh film but it was in India that the numbers were below expectation. Earlier this month, at a press conference, Shah Rukh Khan said that he wasn’t happy with the Dilwale collections in India. He had said, “I don’t think the film has done as well as it should have. I am personally disappointed with that.”

He had also said, “To be honest, it has perhaps not done as well in India as I would like it to do. But overseas it has done very well in a lot of countries like Germany and Austria. It is quite thrilling that Indian films are reaching far and wide. There are a lot of business opportunities.” Now, according to the trade buzz, Shah Rukh Khan has gone ahead and refunded 50 percent of the loss faced by the distributors.

Trade analyst Komal Nahata tweeted, “SRK does what few wud do. Refunds 50% of the loss of distributors of his Dilwale. That’s what u call a considerate producer.” Down south, it is said that superstar Rajinikanth also takes ownership of his movies that sometimes don’t do well. He also is of the same belief that if there are losses, everyone should bear it and not just the distributors.

An app to help you shop

Share

esw

Have you met Shop Skipper yet? It’s like the Zomato of the fashion world. You know where you can get the juiciest burgers in town, but do you know where you’d find metallic silver loafers? This new interactive app can tell you just that.

Started by Kamakshi Maheshwari and Prerna Jain, it works differently from other e-commerce apps. “It helps you find stores in your city, and details what clothes and accessories they sell,” says Kamakshi, who came up with the idea when she was studying at the London Business School. “Shop Skipper eliminates the search time associated with offline shopping,” she adds. It does not deliver products to your doorstep, but tells you where to head to for that specific LBD or even those sophisticated cocktail rings.

Launched during the first week of this month, the app has now planned its first event — a treasure hunt that will take place this Sunday. “It’s a two-hour event, and 200 people have already registered. There are prizes worth Rs. 10,000 to be won,” Kamakshi says. It is open to anybody above 14, and some 50-year-olds have also signed up. Each team should have four to six members, and they need to download the app on their phones to take part.

Participants will be given clues in the form of riddles. This will lead them to stores listed on the app. On reaching the store, they will have to perform an activity, and get the next clue. In order to avoid cluttering, the participants will be split into five sets, and they will take five different routes.

Sounds intriguing? For registrations, log on to the ShopSkipper page on Facebook. Spot registrations can also be done at the venue — CSI Wesley Grounds, Royapettah. The event starts at 10 a.m.

AP photographer reflects on ‘bucket baby’ in Brazil

ge

The first time I met Solange Ferreira was in December. She was at a hospital, waiting to hear from a doctor whether her baby boy had what so many in her village were talking about microcephaly, or an abnormally small head that is a sign of severe disabilities and a truncated life-expectancy. I had no doubt that little Jose, born in September, had the condition that many experts believe is linked to the Zika virus. His head was notably small, his skull practically flat.

“Everybody says he has a small head, but I don’t know what’s going on,” Ferreira, a 38-year-old maid, told me while she waited in Caruaru, a city in northeast Brazil near Recife, where the Zika virus has hit hardest. Like so many other mothers I have interviewed and photographed, Ferreira asked me what I thought. I said nothing. I didn’t want to be the one to dash her hopes that Jose would be fine. When she emerged from the doctor’s office, she told me the news. She had come alone to the hospital with Jose, and it was clear she needed to talk to somebody. She didn’t cry, but her sadness was palpable, and she seemed in shock. I asked for her phone number, and she agreed to let me photograph her and Jose the next day.

In her small house in Poco Fundo, about a three-hour drive from Recife, I saw a mother struggling. The boy would scream uncontrollably for long stretches, getting red in the face and tightening his already stiff limbs. He also struggled to feed, something I had learned was common in children with neurological disorders. When his screaming got so bad that nobody in the house could take it, Ferreira would put Jose in a bucket. A nurse at the hospital had suggested the technique, and it seemed to calm the child.

“We were lucky to learn about the bucket,” said Ferreira. Editing my pictures that night was hard. I realised that so many captured Jose suffering, but I didn’t want to just show him in that light. The pictures of Jose in the bucket would have a large impact on me and on readers around the world. So this week I decided to visit the family again. Ferreira had moved a few hours away to a town called Bonito while her husband remained in their old village. She said she wanted to be closer to Recife, where Jose can get therapy, and to get away from an area infested with mosquitoes.

“If we had not been there, this wouldn’t have happened,” she said. In reality, Bonito is no different than Poco Fundo in terms of mosquitoes and the viruses they transmit, such as Zika, dengue and chikungunya. Jose looked worse. Not only did he scream uncontrollably, but one of his eyes convulsed. Ferreira told me that she fears Jose could end up paralyzed and blind. He had lost weight, from 7 to 5 kilograms (15 to 11 pounds), a huge drop for a baby who should be growing. Depending on the severity, some children with microcephaly fail to thrive and thus die before becoming adults. Ferreira cried when she said she had realised that Jose may never run and play like her two older children. I realised then that the full weight of what Ferreira was up against had hit her. This wasn’t a temporary problem, a challenge that would eventually be overcome. Jose would need extreme care for the rest of his life.

As I was leaving, a neighbour with an infant about the same age as Jose came over for a visit. Ferreira looked at the baby and smiled. “Now I have started believing that it is actually the other babies that have heads that are too big,” she said, in a tone both playful and sad. “Jose is my new normal.”

Speedunnodu Movie Review – 2/5

Share

Sobhan (Bellamkonda Srinivas) finishes degree in the fourth attempt and is that kind of person who does anything to help his friends. To help them, he is led in to a faction ridden Ralayaseema village Venkatapuram near Raptadu. When he tries to help his friends to win the love of Vasanthi (Sonarika Bharodia).

He is taken by surprise when she falls for him. That creates problems for him from his own friends. To further aggravate the issue, there is a rivalry between two villages heded by fathers of Sobhan and Vasanthi. What happens finally in their love story forms the next.

Performances:

Srinivas improved a bit from his first film but is still a long way to go. He should work more on his dialogue delivery and expressions. He is fine with dances. Sonarika do not get much to act but scorched the screen in the songs. During the start of the film, her makeup looked bad but improved later on. It was a treat to the masses with Tamannah in Bachelor Baboo song.

Madhunandan, Srinivas Reddy and Prithvi’s comedy worked to some extent. Shakalaka Shankar is a surprise. Rao Ramesh and Prakash Raj are good as fathers of the lead roles. Kabir Duhan Singh is good as a baddie. There is a long list of character artistes and they have performed well.

Technical Performances:

Sundarapandian is not any novel subject to be remade. We have seen several films with such subjects since 1980s. The treatment to the film is also on similar lines which is the biggest disappointment. He should have tried to portray the value of friendship, love, deceit efficiently which could have made the difference but failed totally. The film just drags on from start to end with out any thing exciting. Some comedy here and there, fights, dances and Tamannah’s item song is the only saving grace, that too for the masses.

Songs worked out well even though the tunes are not that great. Picturization and dances worked out well but their placement is a let down. Vasanth came up with an okay BGM work. Some of the locations are authentic and beautiful especially those in Anantapur. Camera work is fine but editing could have been a lot better. Production values are okay.

Plus Points:

1. Dances.
2. Tamannah’s item song
3. Very few scenes on friendship and family

Minus Points:

1. Routine Story.
2. Not so great comedy
3. Better direction and treatment.

Final Say:

Speedunnodu is a routine mass masala with no single element of novelty. There are few elements like dances, fights, skin show which may excite some sections of masses. To others, there is nothing much exciting and may skip it.
