Untitled

In Tollywood, every Friday decides the fate of several hundreds of people whose films test their luck at the box-office. In an industry where nothing else matters except success, whoever delivers it becomes a star.

With many such starry dreams, a young IT professional quit his high paying job for his passion to tell stories on the big screen. He is Sriram Adittya. The young filmmaker’s directorial debut, Bhale Manchi Roju, has been released today to positive reviews.

Surprisingly, Sriram never had a filmy background and he never even worked as an assistant director. However, he made a few interesting short films which won accolades on YouTube. It was his short films that got him the chance to direct a film starring a noted hero like Sudheer Babu. The young lad mesmerized the critics and audiences with his intelligent twists which was full of twists and turns.

During the premiere show at a Hyderabad theater last night, Sriram’s friends created a huge hungama to celebrate his successful debut. The euphoria is nothing less than that of a star director’s film’s release. Well, no doubt that Sriram is this Friday’s star and also a promising hope for Tollywood’s future.

Balayya Fans Lost Final Hope

20BALAYYA-1

This Sankranthi sees a very intense battle of the biggies, with Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Dictator, NTR’s Nannaku Prematho and Nagarjuna’s Soggade Chinni Nayana releasing within one day gap, thereby leading to an inevitable clash at the box-office. Especially, a lot is riding on Balayya’s Dictator since the film is the actor turned MLA’s 99th film.

Fans want nothing short of a historic success with Dictator, and pinned all their hopes on this project. However, one major concern for all Balayya fans is the film’s writer duo, Kona Venkat and Gopimohan.

Of late, both Kona and Gopi have been going through the worst phase of their careers, with many big and prestigious films they had worked bombing miserably at the box-office. And the first and foremost complaint regarding their scripts and screenplays or even the dialogues is the done their death monotonous and stale story template.

Yesterday, Gopichand’s Soukhyam released to some really poor reviews from critics and even audiences seem to have been completely fed up with Kona’s ‘genius’ inputs.

This got Balayya fans to desperately hope for some magic during the Sankranthi fight. And it is mainly Kona and Gopi for whom Dictator’s success is of utmost importance.

Mama Manchu Alludu Kanchu Movie Review – 3/5

Share

The very collaboration of versatile actor Mohan Babu and comedy star Allari Naresh raised several eye balls. If this is not enough, the film’s title ‘Mama Manchu Alludu Kanchu’ drew more attention. Given that the movie happens to be Mohan Babu’s 181st film as lead and 50th film for Naresh, the movie garnered a great buzz. In addition to this, the film marks the reunion of ‘Allari Mogudu’ team Mohan Babu, Ramya Krishna and Meena after 23 years. Find out our take on the film.

Story :

Meet Bhaktavatsalam Naidu and his family (families). He is a man with two wives Suryakantham (Meena) and Priyam Vada (Ramya Krishna). With Surya Kantham, he has a daughter Sruthi (Poorna) and with Priyam Vada, he has a son Goutham Naidu (Varun Sandesh). Bhaktavatsalam takes special care such that neither of his wives nor his children know about this truth.

At a time Goutham trying to befriend Sruthi whom he spoke over phone, suspected Bhaktavatsalam Naidu seeks the help of Balaraju (Allari Naresh) to enter as Goutham Naidu and wants to make Sruthi dislike Goutham. But the twist here is that Balaraju falls for Sruthi and so Sruthi. Bhaktavatsalam has no other option but to agree to their marriage as Balaraju knows his secret. The rest of the story is all about how Bhaktavatsalam Naidu manages with his wives, children and how Balaraju rescues him.

Performances:

Mohan Babu: Mohan Babu’s fine-drawn performance as family head captivates. Bhaktavatsalam Naidu is indeed a tailor-made role for him. Known for his dialogue delivery, he continues to enthrall with witty liners. Mohan Babu is man of the match in Mama Manchu Alludu Kanchu.

Allari Naresh: Naresh entertains as Alludu to strict father-in-law. Naresh pulled off the role, film brilliantly. He balances Mohan Babu and brings cheer to us. The cat-and-mouse game between Mohan Babu, Naresh is the USP of the film.

Poorna: Poorna and Naresh make for good pair again. As usual, Poorna comes up with neat performance.

Ali & Others: Ali is seen in a well-etched role Ismail, friend of Bhaktavatsalam Naidu. He is there throughout the film. Varun Sandesh seems to be on a downward spiral. He has to focus on his facial expressions. Krishna Bhagawan as Sanyasi Rao too is okay.

Technicalities:

Director Srinivas Reddy chosen a Marathi film to make a comeback with its remake. Although he did a decent job, but still he could have done much better. Editing should have been much crisper.

Music composed by trio Koti, Achu, and Raghu is refreshing, appealing. Koti’s background score is a winner. It did enhance the scenes at crucial junctions. The production values are good. The film is shot in picturesque locales.

Thumbs Up

  • Mohan Babu and Dialogues
  • Situation Comedy

Thumbs Down

  • Lag Scenes
  • Predictable Story

Analysis:

Mama Manchu Alludu Kanchu is neither a brainstorming film nor an award-winning film. It’s a simple, cool comic caper. It doesn’t take much time of you to understand this. As soon as the movie stars off, one get to know how the movie is going to be. It’s a complete family entertainer. While the film’s story is something as old as hills, Mohan Babu & Naresh are the two who brought new energy into the movie.

Especially Mohan Babu’s character comedy with Naresh, Ali tickle the funny bones. Though predictable, the movie won’t bore you any where. Situation comedy comes in handy. Scenes involving Mohan Babu, Ali are hilarious.

However, the film struggles post-interval and gets slow. Sluggish narrative here is a dampener. But as the film progresses towards the pre-climax & climax, the film picks up and ends on bright note. On whole, Mama Manchu Alludu Kanchu appeals to family audiences.

Verdict: Manchi(u) Family Entertainer!

beggar

If you reject to donate money, beggars will simply leave you and will look for others to ask for some loose change. But, an old man from Hyderabad has stunned a woman and her friend by showing card swiping machine to swipe their card to transfer amount to his personal bank account.

While driving on the road of Hyderabad city, this lady and her friend were approached by a beggar who asked for some money to buy food. In her reply she said, “I didn’t carry any cash”. But, the beggar’s reply stunned her for a moment. He suggested that she could swipe her ATM card.

On the flip side, some doubt that, the video was made deliberately to grab social media attention and also to make it viral on YouTube. The ATM card swipe machine would have been given to the beggar by the lady or her friend sat next to her in the car.

‘Do they know that the beggar is going to ask them to swipe their card, since they recorded it like something special is going to happen?’ is what common question being raised by everybody who is doubtful about the video. In fact, many of the funny videos we glimpse in YouTube or other video-based platforms are intentionally made to cash on public interest for such videos.

Bhale Manchi Roju Movie Review – 3.25/5

Share

Story:

Ram (Sudhir Babu) works as delivery boy of a luxury car company. He gets ditched with his girl friend (Dhanya Balakrishna). A dejected Ram sets out to take revenge but on the way hits a car setting loose a girl, Seetha (Wamiqa Gabbi) who gets kidnapped by Shakthi’s gang (Sai Kumar). However the gang kidnaps Ram’s best friend and announces to release him only after getting back Seetha. But the young lady gets kidnapped by another gang. The events that followed later, forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Sudhir Babu seem to be improving from film to film. This is a film where we see the actor right from the start to end and accordingly he shouldered it entirely. He came up with a good performance. Wamiqa Gabbi got a decent debut with good screen presence.

Posani is hilarious as a Church father and 30 Years Prudhvi’s track at the end is an asset. Sai Kumar lived up to his reputation as a baddie. Aishwarya Bhaskaran, Praveen, Paruchuri Gopalakrishna, Vidyullekha Raman, Chaitanya Krishna, Dhanya Balakrishna, Ghosh and others are okay in their little roles.

Technical Performances:

Sriram Aditya made an impressive debut as a director. He picks up a different story line and made sure it is executed interestingly. Though there is a little deviation post the interval but it got masked with twists, racy screenplay and hilarious climax. Definitely he is a prospect for future. The makers should be lauded for their excellent production values.

Camera work by Shamdat Sainudeen is top notch especially the aerial shots are very impressive. All the chases and fights which are needed for this Kidnap drama are also conceived well. Editing is good but the songs are speed breakers due to their poor placement.

Plus Points:

  • Story and Screenplay.
  • Performances of all the lead cast.
  • Comedy of Posani & 30yrs industry Prudhvi
  • Shamdat’s top-notch Cinematography.
  • Modish Editing.
  • Minus Points:
  • Lack of wow factors.
  • Songs looked forced.

Final Say:

Bhale Manchi Roju is an engaging and entertaining dark comedy. It is a different attempt in Tollywood which needs to be appreciated. Try it this weekend, it is certainly worth your time!

Youth Shot Himself Singing RGV Song

RGV1

Do you remember the song ‘Goli mar beje mein’ from Ram Gopal Varma directed Bollywood hit film Satya starred JD Chakravarthy. What will you do while listening to this song; mostly you will dance to the tune. But, an over enthusiastic 26 years-old-man shot himself to death.

The incident took place in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The youth named Virendra Sharma went inside his room singing the song ‘Goli maar bheje mein…’ and asked his wife for food, before the shot was fired. He was immediately rushed to district hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

“Virendra may have pulled the trigger accidentally or must have committed suicide. Murder angle cannot be ruled out,” opines police. As per Police, Virendra had a criminal record with several criminal cases against him.

A pistol was also recovered from the spot. Virender was living on the upper portion of a duplex along with his wife and a month-old son. Police started investigation to find out whether it is a case of suicide or murder.

100 Crores Collections: Neck Deep Losses

Share

dilwale-collects-rs-21-crores-on-day-one_b_2012150840

Currently a debate is going on in trade circles how Shahrukh Khan is following his favorite star, Superstar Rajnikanth. While Dilwale just crossed 3 million dollars ‘gross’ from USA box office, the actual fact is that his collection is not enough back home to save the local distributors.

Here is Superstar connection to Dilwale explained. Before the release of “Lingaa”, superstar Rajni praised Lingaa story and concept as top notch. He kept on promoting the film in Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai too.

Presence of Sonakshi Sinha is seen as a huge advantage up north. Frankly, all that hype ended as a goof up, because huge hype is also a factor responsible for the film’s flop show. Despite the fact that the film collected 100 crores and above, distributors lost nealry 50% of their investments.

Same is the case with Dilwale that failed to entertain audiences. Even if the collections cross 100 crores ‘nett’ by tomorrow, a week after release, distributors won’t feel happy.

Because they should get nearly 250 crores ‘nett’ to break into profits, say trade reports. So, Dilwale is following the Lingaa way at box office. Will distributors of Dilwale revolt like the ones of Lingaa?

Double Blow For Mahesh’s Heroine

Share

kriti

Superstar Mahesh Babu failed to give break for sexy model Kriti Sanon in Tollywood, but she has shot to fame later with “Heropanti”, her debut Bollywood flick. In no time, she landed in Shahrukh Khan’s Dilwale and her career is expected to take a major turn now.

Surprisingly in film industry, it’s not that easy to get fortunes turned. Dilwale is going flop route and Kriti’s character in the film is not much weighed. Neither it has any potential that she will be seen as a crowd puller. Though Kriti is having couple of projects in hand, if Dilwale’s failure is one big blow, then the second one came from Yash Raj Films.

If the rumour of Kriti rejecting Salman’s “Sultan” stayed like a rumour, that would have helped her. But YRF suddenly sprang into the scene and clarified that they never approached her in the first place. That reduced, sorry almost zeroed, the hype around Kriti and other big stars may not think of her very soon.

The Messiah For Small Films

Untitled

Often, most low budget filmmakers undergo numerous hardships during the making of their films. Even though they manage to wind up the shooting and ready the film for a release, they mostly end up finding no takers and their films lie in the labs.

This lack of trust on small films by distributors is affecting some really well made low budget films. However, things have changed for good with the entry of a few noted producers and distributors. One of the frontrunners in this list is the hotshot producer cum distributor Sai Korrapati.

A couple of months ago, Sai Korrapati acquired the low budget horror-comedy Raju Gari Gadhi and gave it a wide release along with huge publicity. The result was a blockbuster. Apparently, the producer even suggested a few crucial chances to the film’s script, which played a key role in the film’s huge success.

Now, he acquired Jatha Kalise, another low budget film, which is releasing today. Sai Korrapati even managed to pull in bigwigs like Rajamouli and Keeravani to promote the film and the result is that the film is releasing amidst positive buzz.

While trade circles are hoping that his Midas touch will once again work in Jatha Kalise’s favor, Sai Korrapati has already become a Messiah for small budget filmmakers, with many producers  trying to grab his attention towards their films.

Rare Mega Feat Turns Unlucky

Share

Telugu-Actor-Varun-Tej-Photo-Shoot-Stills-041

Time flies away so fast and it certainty did for the handsome young Mega hero Varun Tej. Yesterday, Varun Tej completed a grand one year in Tollywood since his debut with the December 24, 2014 release Mukunda. Varun pulled off a rare Mega feat of acting in 3 films in the first year of his debut.

This Sreekanth Addala directorial was launched in a grand manner with Varun’s star uncles, Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan, gracing the muhurtham ceremony. Mukunda, even though failed to mint money at the box-office, introduced a confident actor in Varun Tej and the young lad showed promise for being a sensible actor from the Mega family.

Even Mega fans lapped up Varun Tej immediately for trying out something new right on his debut. The accolades  increased even higher for Varun’s terrific portrayal of a brave WW II soldier in Krish’s Kanche, but the film suffered losses in some areas.

And most recently, Varun once again impressed everyone with his first ever mass avatar in Puri Jagannadh’s Loafer, but again, the film is staring at a loss at the box-office. Irrespective of his films’ unfortunate box-office results, Varun’s penchant for experimenting with his roles is definitely a welcome sign and an inspiration to his fellow young actors. Let’s hope that Varun gets lucky with his upcoming films.
