Akkineni Nageswara Rao touches in Nagarjuna’s film
Nagarjuna’s upcoming film Soggade Chinni Nayana has a village backdrop. He plays a dual role one of which is that of a typical villager and the actor says that the inspiration for this character is his father, the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
Most of ANR’s films that had a village backdrop were huge hits and Nagarjuna has taken a leaf out of his father’s books. Also, the dhoti that Nagarjuna wears in the film is the same one worn by ANR for his films. He is also wearing his father’s watch that the latter had bought in 1959.
The film is directed by debutant K. Kalyan Krishna. Ramya Krishna and Lawanya Tripathi are playing the female leads, while Anasuya and Hamsa Nandini are playing cameos. The film is scheduled for a Sankranti release.
I don’t want to do experimental films: Gopichand
After the success of Loukyam and Jil, actor Gopichand is following the same commercial formula with his upcoming film Soukhyam. “It’s a new story told in a new manner,” he says, adding, “It’s a typical family entertainer with comedy and action.” He says that he always follows the same commercial formula as the audiences do not come the theatres to see experimental films. “Yes, I like to do the same kind of commercial films with loads of entertainment as everyone wants to feel good when they watch a film. I don’t want to take a risk by doing an experimental film at this point of time,” he says.
He adds that a producer, who puts a lot of money in a film, should get his money back. “There are many families living on a film’s production. So I can do an experiment film but the producer is going to suffer a big loss and he may not make another film,” he says. Gopichand’s father, the late T. Krishna, made great films and most of them were successful. “It was a long time back and at that time the audience mindset was different; now it has changed.”
The actor says that these days a film can make money in just 10 days. “It’s not like earlier days, when films needed to run longer. If the first weekend’s collections are good and if it runs for another week, then the 10 days’ collections are enough. Whether the film is a hit or flop is also known after the morning show,” he adds. Does he still watch his debut film that released 15 years back? “Yes, I do because I want to know what mistakes I made.” The actor has recently signed Oxygen, with director Jothi Krishna, son of popular producer A.M. Ratnam. Jothi Krishna had directed a film long back.
“The good thing about him is that he realises his past mistakes. That’s why I believe him,” he says. Talking about his co-star Regina, he says, “This is the first time I am working with her. I haven’t seen much her films, but she is a very good actor.” The actor is at present enjoying fatherhood with his one-and-a- half-year-old son. “Yes, he is walking now and I am spending most of my time with him. If I am not shooting I will be at home with my son.”
