Cheekati Rajyam Movie Review – 3/5
Story:
Cheekati Rajyam is all about what happens in a day in the life of Diwakar (Kamal Haasan), a sincere officer from the Narcotics Control Bureau. His son gets kidnapped by a drug mafia spearheaded by Vittal Rao (Prakash Raj) and the story is all about Diwakar’s tryst to save him.
Performances:
Kamal Hassan is convincing in a role with two different shades – a sincere cop as well as a concerning father desperate for his son’s release. Trisha gets a meaty role as a fellow cop to Kamal. She came up with a good performance matching to that of the protagonist. The kitchen fight sequence where Trisha and Kamal exchange blows benefit the film big time.
Madhu Shalini as a nurse seem to be a forced character. The unnecessary romance and lip-locks only portrayed the unconvincing chemistry between both the characters. Prakash Raj is convincing as a drug lord and he even managed to draw some good laughs. Sampath was not utilized properly but he is good to the extent he is used.
Technical Performances:
Rajesh M Selva gets off to a good start for his direction career with Cheekati Rajyam. The thriller film was adequately helped by Kamal Hassan’s neat screenplay. Also the casting was so perfect and it made sure the story-telling is seam-less. It was complimented very well with slick editing by Shaan and superb camera work by Sanu Varghese.
The team already has a winner at hand when they kept the run time to 127 minutes. You feel that the movie is running at jet speed at the same time keeping the audience engrossed. Ghibran should be complimented for his excellent back ground score. It elevated the mood of the story especially in the emotional scenes and fight sequences.
Final Say:
The first half of the film is racy with a very good interval bang. The second half also goes well except towards the end when things get little slow. Finally Cheekati Rajyam is a well executed cop thriller but is restricted only to some segments due to its genre. Those who enjoys such thriller will definitely like it.
NASA’s ‘chemical laptop’ to search for alien life
Washington: In a bid to find concrete evidence of life outside Earth, NASA is developing a ‘chemical laptop’—the first portable, miniaturised laboratory built to detect both amino acids and fatty acids on other worlds. The device being developed at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California analyses samples for materials associated with life. “If this instrument were to be sent to space, it would be the most sensitive device of its kind to leave Earth, and the first to be able to look for both amino acids and fattyacids,” said Jessica Creamer, a NASA postdoctoral fellow based at JPL. Like a tricorder from “Star Trek,” the Chemical Laptop is a miniaturised on-the-go laboratory, which researchers hope to send one day to another planetary body such as Mars or Europa.
It is roughly the size of a regular computing laptop, but much thicker to make room for chemical analysis components inside. But unlike a tricorder, it has to ingest a sample to analyse it, NASA said. “Our device is a chemical analyser that can be reprogrammed like a laptop to perform different functions,” said Fernanda Mora, a JPL technologist who is developing the instrument with JPL’s Peter Willis, the project’s principal investigator. “As on a regular laptop, we have different apps for different analyses like amino acids and fatty acids,” said Mora. Amino acids are building blocks of proteins, while fatty acids are key components of cell membranes. Both are essential to life, but can also be found in non-life sources. Amino acids come in two types: Left-handed and right-handed. Like the left and right hands of a person, these amino acids are mirror images of each other but contain the same components. Some scientists hypothesise that life on Earth evolved to use just left-handed amino acids because that standard was adopted early in life’s history.
It is possible that life on other worlds might use the right-handed kind. “If a test found a 50-50 mixture of left-handed and right-handed amino acids, we could conclude that the sample was probably not of biological origin,” Creamer said. “But if we were to find an excess of either left or right, that would be the golden ticket. That would be the best evidence so far that life exists on other planets,” she said. When the laptop is set to look for fatty acids, scientists are most interested in the length of the acids’ carbon chain. This is an indication of what organisms are or were present. The battery-powered Chemical Laptop needs a liquid sample to analyse, which is more difficult to obtain on a planetary body such as Mars.
Prabhas, the Successor of Those Heroes for Folklores!
While NTR and ANR wee ruling the roost of their career in Tollywood as number one heroes, Kantha Rao caught hold of folklore entertainers as a hero. He lapped up every opportunity in that genre in the combo of director Vithalacharya. Many great folklore films such as ‘Guruvunu Minchina Sishyudu’, ‘Sahasrasirashchedha Apoorva Chintamani’, ‘Jwaladweepa Rahasyam’, ‘Bangaru Thimmaraju’ etc. were done by Kantha Rao as a lead star. That’s why he was fondly called ‘Kathi Kantharao’ by his fans. Vithalacharya found another hero to make folklore films during 70s and the hero was none other than hero and character actor Narasimha Raju. He was seen as a hero in movies such as ‘Jaganmohini’, ‘Navamohini’ and a couple of more films. Eventually, Narasimharaju was considered the one and only successor of Kantha Rao in the genre of folklore entertainers.
After a huge gap of 40 years, one more hero seems to have replaced Kantha Rao and Narasimha Raju for doing folklore entertainers regularly. And he is our Young Rebel Star Prabhas. Prabhas and Rajamouli combo’s ‘Baahubali’ was already released and the sequel of the movie ‘Baahubali 2’ is under pre production. It cannot be denied that the combo of Prabhas and Rajamouli might team up for ‘Baahubali 3’ or other fantasy entertainers to be directed by Rajamouili. An interesting co-incidence between Kantha Rao and Prabhas is that both the heroes were bound to work in the combo of their respective directors and could not make use of other opportunities due to their agreements and bonds with their directors.
