The return of the ‘click-n-print’ camera

Fuji Instax Mini 70_0

“Why can’t I see them now?” a little girl asked her father. She wondered why it took so long to develop and print photos she had taken with her box camera. Dr Edwin Land went on to co-found the Polaroid Corporation and in 1948 answered his daughter’s wish — by inventing the Land self-developing camera, which produced a print 60 seconds after you took a picture. Polaroid has remained a synonym for instant-print cameras for 60 years, till the company went bankrupt in 2008, killed by digital and mobile phone cameras. The Japanese film company Fuji, however retained faith in instant cameras and continued to produce them under the brand Instax. Now incredibly, they are making a comeback worldwide: There are enough people who want to ‘see them now’ and hold a print in their hands, rather than posting then on Instagram. They are very handy for creating quick Photo IDs and restaurants use them as keepsake giveaways for customers. And here’s irony for you! Fuji makes Polaroid-branded Snap instant cameras for PLR IP Holdings, the company that was born out of the ashes of the original Polaroid and now offers a range of handy still and video cameras and printers.

In India, Fuji has been marketing a slate of Instax Mini cameras for almost a year now. The latest that I have been trying out is the Instax Mini 70, a chunky device with (what else!) a special selfie button as well as close-up macro and landscape modes and a self timer. Cameras have become a lot smarter since the early instamatics — and the Mini 70 is very good at figuring out the right exposure. Fuji sells the instant film in packs of 10 (a twin pack costs $20 or about Rs 1,000) and it is a cinch to slot in a pack into the camera. Shoot your pic and the photo rolls out — taking about 40-50 seconds to develop. The word ‘mini’ relates to the instaprint size — 6.2 x 4.6cm (2.5-inch by 1.8-inch) or the size of a credit card. The Mini 70 costs Rs 11,500. There are other models from Rs 6,441 to Rs 10,999.
For those who want to use the camera on their phones, Fuji offers the Instax Share Smartphone printer SP1 which takes the same 10-print pack of film.

It sets up its own Wi-Fi link to your phone and once you have installed the free Android or iOS app, you can click on the phone to wirelessly take a print. Both the printer and the Mini camera work off two CR2 batteries supplied. The printers is priced Rs 14,500. I loved the detailed instructions that come with both Fiji products– clearly written with dummies in mind!Polaroid has also launched an instant wireless printer in India. The Zip smartphone printer links to the phone either via Bluetooth pairing or by NFC (you place the phone on the printer) and uses a USB cable for charging its built-in battery. You can load the sheets of Zink — zero ink — photo paper into the printer and use the Zip app to print in much the same way as the Instax printer. It costs Rs 13,350, but uses more area of the paper to provide a 2 inch by 3 inch print, while Fuji leaves space to add your titles and notes.

All of a sudden, there is fresh buzz began to surround Nandamuri Balakrishna’s milestone 100th film in spite of a known fact that he is presently occupied with 99th project ‘Dictator’ in direction of Sriwass. Yes, Balayya’s 100th film is reported to get its launch on June 10th of 2016 which happens to be the birthday of our hero.

With no surprises, none other than Boyapati Srinu is going to be the director. In fact, this action loving director who earlier delivered two stupendous hits ‘Simha, Legend’ for Nata Simham is sitting on the script work from last few months. As soon as Boyapati completes ‘Sarainodu’ with Allu Arjun, the next task is already assigned and he will jump on to the untitled 100th.

While there were random speculations in Nandamuri Fans circles about SS Rajamouli can be the best director to handle Balayya but nothing of such sorts happened because Balayya promised Boyapati and stood on his word. Undoubtedly, the budget and scale of this venture will be very big and this can be the real challenge before director and hero.

Anushka Size Zero Censor Certification

Most glamorous and star heroine Anushka’s new film ‘Size Zero’ has got different kind of response from Regional Censor Boards of Telugu and Tamil. With the film nearing to release in next couple of days, producer Prasad V Potluri has arranged for Censor Certification and cleared all the formalities to go for a smooth release.

While the Telugu version of ‘Size Zero’ is issued U/A Certificate, the Tamil version titled as ‘Inji Iduppazagi’ is given a clean U certificate. While reasons behind such different of opinions from two boards is still unknown, some sources revealed that Sonal Chauhan’s glamour show and a lip kiss of hero Arya with heroine Anushka might have forced them to go for U/A.

Anyways, this also indicates that fewer portions of ‘Size Zero’ might be treated differently in both Telugu and Tamil versions. Apparently, Anushka remains the central attraction of film and the crowd puller for this entertaining flick.

Trs candidate Pasnuri Dayakar registered a historic victory in the by-elections for Warangal Lok Sabha seat whose results were announced on Tuesday.

Dayakar has broken all records in Telangana and have defeated his rivals with a majority, which is fifth highest in the country. Dayakar secured 615,403 while his nearest rival Sarve Satyanarayana of Congress got 156,315 votes followed by BJP candidate Dr. P. Devaiah who got 130,178. Therefore, he won the by-elections with a majority of 459,092 votes which is far higher than the majority of 392,574 secured by his predecessor Kadiyam Srihari in 2014 general elections. Both, the Congress and BJP candidates, lost their deposits along with 20 others who were in fray. The YSRCP candidate got mere 23,222 votes.

Although the Warangal by-elections was considered a multi-cornered contest, the results have proved that it was one-sided affair for ruling Trs with Dayakar getting a clear and huge lead in all 22 rounds of counting.

Killing Veerappan is not a biopic: Ram Gopal Varma

Ram Gopal Varma says that his upcoming film Killing Veerappan will be something different from what he has done till now. “The police tried to nab him for nearly 20 years. I had done research since the early ’90s as I wanted to do a film on him. The film is not Veerappan’s side of the story or a biopic on him. The subject deals more about how a police officer killed the bandit,” says RGV, adding that he plans to release the film on December 4. Crores were spent to nab Veerappan and hundreds of policemen were on the assignment. “But a cop came up with an intelligent plan and killed him. I have met this person and I have also met Veerappan’s wife,” says RGV.

He adds that the film was shot mostly in real places though he didn’t get permission to shoot in some other locations. Shiv Raj Kumar, son of legendary late actor Rajkumar, is playing the intrepid police officer. “In Karnataka, two people are very famous for good and bad. One is Rajkumar and the other is Veerappan. The Kannada star had been kidnapped by Veerappan and that was one reason to rope in Shiv Raj Kumar for the film,” says RGV. Recently, the director had heavily criticised the Censor Board on Twitter, but he doesn’t think that the Board will create any trouble for the film.

Kamal Haasan_0

With Cheekati Rajyam getting a good response from the audience, Kamal Haasan is a happy man. “Though I have heard it many times in my career, but it is always new when people praise a film. This film’s success gives me more scope to experiment. If it was not successful, we wouldn’t try this genre again. It would take another 10 years to try out a different genre,” says Kamal. He adds that he postponed going back to Chennai thanks to the positive reports about the film.

“People are liking the film and I thought that I should thank the Telugu people for this success. In my early days, Telugu people had encouraged me when Maro Charitra had released. Thanks to that encouragement, I can try different genres,” he adds.

The film is a family and romantic drama and most of the shooting will be held in the US.” He adds that Zarina Wahab will be playing a key role in this film, which will be directed by his friend Rajeev Kumar.

Close on the heels of Aamir’s controversial comments on intolerance in India, hard-core Muslim ideologist and MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi came out and called Aamir’s comments ‘nonsense’. Saying that he would rather say ‘I live and die in India’, Asaduddin said he’d never say what Aamir Khan had said.

I would have never said what Aamir said. We have seen numerous riots but still we continue to live here as its our country. We will not succumb to nonsense talks. We will do disservice to those who fought for us. We will struggle and strive to live here to improve the country,” Owaisi was quoted as saying in a TV interview to India Today.

It may be noted that Aamir earlier stated that raising intolerance in India prompted him, his wife to consider leaving the country. Aamir’s remarks invited a huge flak from people, his colleagues in film industry and several leaders. People took to social networking sites to express their dissent on Aamir.

India Is Not Afghanistan, Mr Khan – Vishnu

Not move out of this great country. India is what has made you AAMIR KHAN. We are not in Afghanistan, to feel so insecure. For record, As an actor I love Aamir Khan“, says Manchu Vishnu, setting the record straight. As the opposition against Aamir’s intolerance comments is growing fast, Vishnu too joined his peers from Tollywood in connection with this.

In a much generalised and matured statement, Vishnu stated that ‘intolerance’ is everywhere in the world. “Ask Hindus & Muslims in Pakistan about it, Muslims in Bangladesh, ask my African American Brothers about intolerance in one of the greatest nations USA“, Vishnu said.

He felt that few isolated media hyped events cannot represent the general mood of this Great Country, India. “Idiots have created a sense of insecurity earlier, some incidents now and maybe in future also. As a society we need to correct that”, he opined.

Well, Telugu Film industry says that Vishnu’s comments are the most matured hit-back and a befitting reply to Aamir Khan so far.

Aamir Khan Attacked For Intolerance Comments

Aamir Khan’s statement of growing intolerance in India has caused a stir in celebrity circles. His comments have been off late attacked and criticized by many. ‘If Aamir, Sharukh and Salman the three biggest stars of the Hindu country India are Muslims, I don’t understand where intolerance is? In a predominantly Hindu country, if 3 Muslims can become the biggest iconic super stars that it-self proves the majority aren’t intolerant. Some celebs complaining about intolerance should be the last ones to complain because they became celebs in a so called intolerant country.

Isolated incidents cannot be taken as sign of intolerance and the super stardom of 3 Muslims is proof enough of the vast majority’s tolerance. Isn’t Aamir, Sharukh, Salman, three Muslims becoming biggest stars of a Hindu country proof enough that India is tolerant? It’s the celebs need for creating drawing room debates to increase their popularity which flares up non-existent negativity between communities. If you are really feeling like a family and there’s a problem in the family, family members in public won’t say there is intolerance in the family,’ Ram Gopal Varma reacted. Anupam Kher and Paresh Rawal too went so serious on Aamir comments.’Dear Aamir Khan, did you ask Kiran which country would she like to move out to? Did you tell her that this country has made you Aamir Khan,’ as said by Anupam Kher.

Pawan Kalyan kept his Fans and Telugu audience so excited about the upcoming projects to be produced on his own banner of Pawan Kalyan Creative Works. If Pawan is the hero, there is no scarcity for producers and money will be poured like water. But the main intention of Pawan in starting a new own banner is to produce films with other heroes and also to groom young talents to get a much needed break.

Well, a movie with Ramcharan as hero and Pawan as producer is also announced. However, story and director are yet to be finalized. The innate delay happening with Pawan Kalyan Creative Works remaining on back foot with production of new films is their weak financial status, reports a film source. Till the time Pawan accumulates needful money with ‘Sardaar Gabbar Singh’ to be exclusively deposited in their banner account, there will be no big progress in Charan’s project too.

As we all know, Pawan never cared about money in any stage of his life. Looks like the time has come, he is slowly understanding the necessity of having enough finance on hand which can make many things lot easier. Despite the backing from Sharat Marar, we might have to wait till ‘Sardaar’ release to see a progress in Pawan Kalyan Creative Works.

Bollywood top heroine Deepika Padukone’s foraying into South or especially Telugu cinema has been a fascinating subject for movie lovers. There were several rumors on Deepika would be cast opposite to Mahesh Babu, Ramcharan and other heroes at different occasions but the busiest actress never accepted any of the proposals forwarded by directors and producers from South.

‘I am getting wonderful offers from Telugu with too good stories and characterizations. Many of those super hit Telugu movies are also remade into Hindi. So, language isn’t a barrier stopping from entering into Tollywood. I am ready to take up few assignments in coming days without worried about language.

In Telugu industry, Mahesh Babu is my favorite actor. I just love his acting. More than an actor, he is a good friend of mine. Not just Mahesh, I would love to act besides any hero in Telugu and I am looking forward for at least one project to happen,’ Deepika said while preparing for the release of her career’s biggest film ‘Bajirao Mastani.’

Aamir Khan Feared To Live In India

In the context of growing terrorism around world and India too being a sufferer, there has been a raging debate allover on religious intolerance and insecurity to lives of people. When numbers of creative people are expressing their views of dissatisfaction by returning the awards, what is the opinion of Aamir Khan on the entire situation? At the eighth edition of Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, here is Aamir Khan breaking the silence. ‘In the last six to eight months, a sense of insecurity and fear seeped so deep within society and the same is even in my family. After spending our (my wife Kiran, my children and me) whole lives in India, my wife for the first time asked me, should we move out of India?

Just like everyone, we are scared of atmosphere around and are feared for our children. We are shivering to open the newspapers every day. As an individual and as a citizen, I am alarmed by a number of incidents. Sense of justice, electing our representatives (politicians) to rule us are two important attributes give Indians a feel of security. Whenever there is a violent act reported with innocent killings, I feel very unfortunate and immediately look towards our leaders to take a strong step to reassure the citizens that they are safe,’ Aamir Khan said. On growing terror with Islamic State, he made some interesting remarks too. ‘Any acts of terror connected to religion cannot be encouraged. If a Muslim is engaging in terrorism, then he is for sure not following Islam. If a Hindu does the same, he is not following Hinduism. No religion in this world will teach killing of innocents. Instead of calling a Christian or a Hindu or an Islamic terrorist, we should address them only as terrorists removing the religion tag because terrorism doesn’t have a religion,’ Aamir adds.
