Sher distributors stare at heavy losses
Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s Sher is almost confirmed to be a huge disaster. The movie which began with a flop talk, never showed any signs of recovering. The film registered terrible numbers even in the weekend holidays sealing its fate.
Kalyan Ram and the makers should share a part of this movie failure. They failed to promote the film even to a minimum level which could not garner the attention of the audience. Presence of a flop director also became a bane for the movie and its result now.
The distributors are now staring at heavy losses now. All in all, Kalyan Ram failed to retain his hard earned success, Pataas. This film’s failure will come as a double blow for Kalyan Ram especially after that failure of his recent Production venture, Kick-2.
Pragya Jaiswal comments on Mahesh Babu’s project
The other day we have reported a rumour doing rounds in Filmnagar that Kanche fame Pragya Jaiswal will be starring opposite Superstar Mahesh Babu in his upcoming film to be directed by AR Murugudoss. The report said Mahesh Babu was very impressed with her.
But the actress who just returned after a short trip to Mumbai confirmed that there is no truth in that. “I would love to do with Mahesh Babu but no one did approach me till now. I wish the rumour had some credibility”, she said.
Pragya Jaiswal says she’s really happy with the response of the audience and critics to Kanche. Pragya has been applauded by critics and the audience for playing the role of Seetha Devi in the movie which is doing decently well at the box office.
Four revenue officials suspended
Guntur: Quite a few people complained against revenue officials at an interactive meeting here on Sunday, leading to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ordering the suspension of four revenue officials.
Mr Naidu, speaking during the second phase of the Mee Intiki-Mee Bhumi programme at Mulukuduru of Ponnur mandal, said citizens had to approach the Revenue department for 67 certificates, including birth, death, nativity, life etc. But for this, they had to make several trips.
He added that the department was known for harassing the public. “I have worked as a revenue minister in the past and observed the anomalies and have tried to change the system but in vain. This weird culture is still continuing in the Revenue department. I want to reshuffle the Revenue department and I am starting an online system to ensure transparency and accountability,” he said.
Mr Naidu added that at one time karanams and munasabs used to handle the land records and write sales and purchase agreements. No one could follow the writing so they were forced to visit them again to get the details. “In some cases, there are no objections from both the seller and the purchaser and neighbouring farmers but the Revenue department creates litigations and sets up objections, which is very strange,” the CM said.
“A person can have as many shares as he wants and keep them in demat accounts and sell them instantly. But we cannot sell our own land without the permission of the Revenue department,” he said, adding that applicants had to bribe Revenue officials to get certificates. Mr Naidu said he would initiate stern action, including dismissal, if the staff took bribes or were lazy in their approach.
Akhil’s Clash With His Biggest Supporter
Ending almost a two week long drama, Akhil’s film unit has confirmed officially that the film will release on 11th November as a Diwali special treat. However, Akhil’s fireworks will be some what affected by the release of Kamal Haasan’s action-packed suspense thriller Cheekati Rajyam and Thala Ajith’s Vedalam Telugu version Aavesham.
The competition gets even more intense with the release of Bollywood star Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’s Telugu version Premleela on 12th November. With Aavesham releasing on the 10th and Cheekati Rajyam releasing also on the 12th, Akhil’s run will surely be affected to an extent.
Incidentally, Salman Khan has been the biggest supporter of Akhil as it was him who introduced Akhil to the Bollywood movie lovers by releasing the first teaser of Akhil. Now, Salman and Akhil are entangled in an unfortunate box-office clash this Diwali.
Also, Ram Charan dubbing for Salman will make Mega fans watch Premleela in huge numbers. Let’s see how well will Akhil fare in his clash with Salman.
Amaravati groundwater highly polluted: Report
The upcoming capital city of Amaravati is likely to face a severe shortage of potable water. Though the city will come up on the right bank of the river Krishna, the groundwater in the designated capital area is highly polluted.Indiscriminate use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides in horticultural and agricultural crops spread over 30,000 acres for decades has turned the groundwater either saline or alkaline. Amaravati is a green field capital city and it will be built after dismantling agricultural and horticultural crops.
A joint research study by Andhra University, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing and KL University has revealed that the groundwater in the villages that fall under the capital city contain pollution indicators like total dissolved solids (TDS), nitrates and fluorides beyond the maximum limit prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
The researchers also found high concentration of alkalinity, which ranged between 200 mg per litre to 400 mg per litre. The team comprising MJ Ratnakanth Babu, IC Das, G Jaisankar and others also noticed that the concentration of chloride in most of the villages under Tadepalli mandal exceeded the BIS limit of 250 mg per litre.
Areas like Undavalli and Penumaka showed TDS above 2,000 mg per litre. Residues of chemical pesticides and fertilisers have leached into the groundwater table over the decades causing high levels of pollution.
Domestic, industrial and agricultural wastes have also damaged the groundwater. Though river Krishna flows in the vicinity, the new capital will have to depend heavily on the groundwater table to meet the needs of the projected population growth. The team has also found that the water table is contaminated by microorganisms too.The water quality index studies showed that the groundwater in nine villages of Tadepalli mandal is of poor quality and unfit for domestic use. Two villages had `very poor’ water quality.
The quality of groundwater in several villages under Mangalagiri and Tullur mandals is also not fit for human consumption.
Smoking Pics Land Samantha In Deep Trouble
Ever since she signed the Tamil film 10 Endrathukulla, Samantha has always been talking high about the film saying that it is her dream project. The film was released in October and had a decent opening at the box-office. Currently, 10 Endrathukulla is having a jittery run and is heading to become an average venture.
Recently, when a fan tweeted Samantha’s smoking pictures from the film, an elated Sam replied to him saying, “who knew playing evil could be such fun !!! Loved it !!” However, looks like Samantha’s happiness is short lived as the Tamil Hindu right wing party Hindu Makkal Katchi took offense of those pictures and demanded an unconditional apology from Samantha for her smoking act.
The HMK’s state secretary Veera Manikyam Siva alleged that Samantha is endorsing smoking among the younger generation and that it will lead many women to follow suit and afflict deadly diseases like breast cancer. The leader further warned Samantha saying that the party will stage protests in front of Samantha’s residence if she fails to tender her apology.
The leader further demanded Samantha to even delete those pictures from her social networking page and that they will send her cigarette and tobacco packets if she fails to comply with their demands.
Good Film But Only Half Million?
Collections from abroad matters a lot these days. Especially a film that makes huge money at USA box office will save the producers a big time when it comes to bringing back their revenues. Big stars like Mahesh can pull 1 Million Dollars even with a flop flick. Cut to good films, there are instances where a well crafted film haven’t received the attention it should.
“Kanche” is one film that is getting rave reviews though it has its own share of flaws. As Krish has that amazing popularity as sensible filmmaker among educated audiences, seriously this film should run like anything at USA box office.
Till Saturday, the film has only made $482,252 gross and it may cross Half Million after Sunday collections. For a film that is hailed as a better concept than Srimanthudu when it comes to social awareness and being the first World War based Telugu movie, is it just Half Million after two weeks of run?
That makes trade analysts put the point, overseas audiences the same as local Telugu audiences here, except the fact that they buy tickets in dollars. The film is unlikely to touch the 1 Million Dollars mark in the coming days and that proves, it’s stardom and popularity that matters even in overseas, not content.
Varun Tej gets an NTR film?
Few days ago we have heard that Balupu, Don Seenu fame Gopichand Malineni will be directing Young Tiger NTR very soon. The project for some reason did not materialize and the script now reached Mega Prince Varun Tej.
The film will happen after the release of Varun Tej’s next with Puri Jagannadh, Loafer (Working Title). Currently the pre-production works of Gopichand film, the fourth in Varun Tej’s career, are going on at brisk pace.
Tagore Madhu will be producing this film under his Leo Entertainments Banner. He is also one of the producers of Varun Tej’s debut movie, Mukundha. The makers are in talks with Rakul Preet Singh to be the heroine in this film. More details of this film later.
SRK to his ‘Fan’s – with Love !
Mumbai: It was a scene right out of “Om Shanti Om” — SRK stood in a balcony of his house Mannat here, blew kisses to his fans, waved at them, smiled at them and there was a gleam in his eyes. On his 50th birthday on Monday, the Bollywood superstar was “humbled” by the love that his fans showered on him.The flash of the cameras went clickety-click, as seen in a video that the ‘badshah’ posted on his Facebook page. There was a loud cheer and whistles from the crowd that filled the street outside Shah Rukh Khan’s house in Bandra here.
Even before the clock struck 12, fans had begun gathering outside, and the attention made Shah Rukh be grateful for the love that his audience has showered on him since over two decades of his Bollywood career.

Everyone cannot be as co-operative as Kona Venkat to postpone their films giving space for ‘Akhil.’ This is a different situation for Akkineni Akhil debut film ‘Akhil’ slated to hit the screens on 11th of this month as Diwali bonanza. The information is although officially announced, there are few sensible factors which might hit the overall result of movie in the form of D (Dubbing)-Attack.
Yes, ‘Akhil’ is set to foresee a strong competition from three dubbing films involving three star heroes. They are, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ starring Salman Khan is dubbed into Telugu as ‘Prema Leela’ with Ramcharan voice is slated to grace into theaters on 12th (one day after ‘Akhil’). Second is, ‘Cheekati Rajyam’ from Kamal Hasan has all the qualities to become a potential threat, if the film gathers positive talk on the same date of 12th. ‘Aavesham,’ the dubbed version to Tamil star hero Thala Ajith ‘Vedalam’ is also hitting the Telugu screens on 10th (one day before ‘Akhil’).
Salman, Ramcharan, Kamal and Ajith happen to be the four big names which should worry ‘Akhil’ although a direct Telugu release always enjoys extra advantage. This is definitely a tough call… let us see what happens.
