Kiran To Take On Naidu In 2019 Polls?

Share

kiran

Former Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is most likely to be the face of Bharatiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh by 2019 elections.

According to highly placed sources, Kiran had held secret talks with top BJP leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi in the recent past.

He was sounded that he might have to lead the party in the next 2019 elections. Apparently, Kiran had put a condition that the BJP should cut off its alliance with the Telugu Desam Party if it wants him to lead the party. However, the BJP leadership wants some time to get the things crystallised.

Sources said the BJP leadership is not happy with the way TDP president, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is trying to defame the Modi government on the special status issue.

Obviously, Naidu wants to pass the buck on to the BJP and secure all the political mileage to the TDP. The confrontationist approach of some TDP leaders is also not going down well with the BJP.

However, the BJP is not in a hurry to severe ties with the TDP right away, as the party is still organizationally weak in AP.

It does not have a strong local leadership. Under these circumstances, the party has seen a capable leader in Kiran who fought tooth and nail with the Congress high command against AP bifurcation.

He might provide a ray of hope to the BJP in Seemandhra. In the meantime, he wants to bring out his book exposing Naidu and the Congress, which would definitely fetch advantage to the BJP by next elections, say sources.

Puri Jagannadh, the only director to pull off a Mega feat

Share

puri1

With the official confirmation of Puri Jagannadh directing Megastar Chiranjeevi’s 150th film, the director is on the verge of pulling off a Mega feat. Incidentally, Puri Jagannadh is the only director to work with almost all the top Mega heroes and other director could manage to create this envious record.

Barring Chiru whom he will be directing very soon, Puri Jagannadh directed Pawan Kalyan twice in Badri and Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu, introduced Ram Charan Chiruta and worked with Allu Arjun in Iddarammayilatho. This unique feat gets Puri Jagannadh the brand as the real Mega director.

In the Mega family, Chiru, Pawan Kalyan, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun are considered prominent since the latest Mega entrants like Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej and Allu Sirish are hardly two films old. Out of these younger generation stars, Varun Tej was rumored to be launched by Puri himself and when it did not happen, discussions were rife that Varun’s next flick after Krish will be with Puri Jagannadh.

Indian Medical Association wants ban on Gabbar Is Back

Share

gabbar

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has demanded the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to invoke a ban on Krish’s Gabbar Is Back. Alleging that the film portrays the doctors and the medical profession in a bad light, the IMA wanted the ban as long as the makers of the film delete the derogatory scenes from the film.

The spokespersons of the association alleged that the film provokes the common public against the doctors and the medical profession due to its false portrayal and is even contemplating to send legal notices to the film’s producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, hero Akshay Kumar and the director Krish. A three member delegation will meet the Union Minister Arun Jaitley to request him to initiate the ban on Gabbar Is Back as early as possible.

The association has even appealed to all medical associations across the country to call for a further boycott of all Akshay Kumar’s films until the issue is solved. Well, when the film is into its 11th day run, one wonders what the association bigwigs have been doing all these days about the derogatory scenes. After releasing to thumping collections, Gabbar Is Back has slowed down in its second week and is slowly limping at the box office after netting close to 75 crores.

Opinion: Lucky for the BJP!

Share

salman

The BJP is probably heaving a sigh of relief at bail being granted to Salman Khan.

One very lucky factor for the party and the nation in general is that the person who died and all the persons who were injured when Salman rammed his car into them were Muslims. Hence there can be no question of injustice being meted out to Salman on account of his faith.

Had at least one of the victims been a Hindu, then the verdict against Salman would probably have been construed as a classic case of minority bashing and how minorities cannot get justice in India.

Already at the receiving end for attacks on churches (that robbery was the motive is ignored), Ghar-wapsi (90% of Pakistan and Muslims in India are converted)and other programmes, the BJP has to thank its stars that the Salman episode in no way reflected on their governance or ideology.

DNA Test: Twins Have Different Fathers

Share
twines

In a startling revelation, a DNA test showed that twins have different fathers. Going into details, while dealing with a paternity legal case of twin daughters, it was revealed that a person is father for only one among the set of twins and wasn’t the father for the other. According to the DNA result, judge in New Jersey ruled that the man is father of one and has to pay for only one of the children.

It’s rarity for a woman to give birth to twins with different fathers, but not unheard of. The phenomenon – known as “heteropaternal superfecundation” – happens in about one out of every 13,000 cases. It can occur when a woman has sex with two men in the same menstrual cycle and two of her eggs are fertilized separately by each man. What’s more interesting is that the woman in question has admitted in the court that she had had sex with both men in the span of about a week.

She stated that she had been seeking child support payments from a man she thought was the father of her daughters, who were born in January 2013. In the end, Judge Sohail Mohammed ruled that the man owes 28 dollar per week for one child. Thus the DNA test turned out to be a shocking end for a paternity legal case.

All Is Well In MAA

Share

During the elections for the Movie Artistes’ Association which concluded last month, a lot of mud sliding and allegations ruined the reputation of the film industry to a lot of extent. Most of the actors resorted to murky abuses, catfights and even threats to overpower their opponents. However, the actors always maintained that they all are good friends and a part of film family.

Soon after the elections, a new association has been formed under the presidency of Rajendra Prasad, who won against Jayasudha. Rajendra Prasad and other actors who became a part of the newly elected executive committee vowed to run the association in a friendly atmosphere. But, things got ugly when Rajendra Prasad met Chiranjeevi and KCR without informing other committee members.

Finally, the first executive meeting of MAA took place today and it seemed to have taken place in a friendly atmosphere. The committee discussed several issues and surprisingly, all the decisions were taken unanimously. Icing on the cake is that the members even had a cosy lunch together this afternoon.

Satyam Ramalinga Raju gets bail

Looks like it’s a good season for the convicts in high profile cases in the Indian judicial system. First it was Salman Khan, who was convicted in the 2002 hit and run case but was granted bail by the Bombay High Court the next day he was sentenced to 5 year jail term. This morning, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha was acquitted in the disproportionate assets case by the Bangalore High Court.

And now, Satyam Ramalinga Raju and all other convicts in the Satyam fraud have been granted conditional bail by the Nampally Court. Being the accused number 1 and number 2, Ramalinga Raju and his brother Ramaraju have been asked to deposit 1 lakh surety to be granted the bail, whereas the other convicts have been let off with a deposit of 50,000.

The Nampally Court further asked the convicts to pay the surety amount within four weeks of their acquittal. It is already known that Satyam Ramalinga Raju and nine others were sentenced to 7 year imprisonment in the infamous Satyam scam. All the convicts have been serving their jail term in the Charlapally Central Jail since their arrest in April 2015.

Rahul Puts It On YSR’s Death

Share

rahul1

The nearly two—month long sabbatical which Rahul Gandhi had embarked on recently seems to be having some sportive effect on Rahul Gandhi these days who is more or less the next president of the grand old party. He is working on a strategy which would revive Congress in AP.

As part of his recent consultations, it was revealed that Rahul regretted appointment of Kiran as AP CM, brushing aside objections expressed by senior leaders n the state. He reportedly agreed that this was the last nail in the coffin for AP Congress as Kiran, inspite of being a Congress CM did everything he can to project Congress as the villain during bifurcation.

Recently, Rahul reportedly revealed to a select group of leaders who had gathered from all over India that he would actively encourage the growth of many leaders in every state in Congress party rather than depend on one or two leaders, whose absence later may bury the party.

In this regard, Rahul remarked that Congress had a great leader in the form of YS Rajashekar Reddy in AP, but after his death in a helicopter crash, the party faced a downslide and eventually disappeared from Andhra Pradesh. His remarks were truly introspective even as it might delight YSRCP leadership.

Modi & Manmohan: 1 Year, spot the differences

Share

pms

The economy rebounded; exports and imports declined, foreign-exchange reserves grew; coal production, electricity generation and petroleum consumption rose, non-performing assets (NPAs) in banking soared.

There are great similarities between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first year in office – which he completes on May 26 – and the corresponding first year of his predecessor, Manmohan Singh’s last term.

In seven of 12 indicators evaluated by IndiaSpend, the data reveal a similar trend – a reasonable economic performance after an economic downturn.

The large variations in the first-year period centre on:

Industrial production: In Modi’s first year, the index of industrial production (IIP) for eight core sectors (coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity) grew 5 percent during 2014-15 against 4.2 percent the previous year. In Singh’s first year, the IIP for six core industries (crude oil, refinery products, coal, electricity, cement and finished carbon steel) grew 10.4 percent, compared to 2.8 percent in the previous year 2008-09.

Exports and imports: In terms of dollars, exports and imports declined 2 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively, in 2014-15 from 2013-14. In Singh’s first year (of his second term) exports and imports declined far more sharply, 4 percent and 5 percent, respectively, in 2009-10 compared to 2008-09.

Nuclear energy: With the commissioning of the Kudankulam Unit-1 of 1,000 mw in Tamil Nadu during December 2014, India’s installed nuclear capacity reached 5,780 mw in 2014-15 from 4,780 MW in 2013-14, an increase of 21 perccent. In 2009-10, it was up 10.6 percent from the previous year.

Direct comparisons are difficult, considering that Singh was in his second term in office. Modi carries Singh’s economic legacy, which worsened considerably by the end of the term, attributed by observers to a global downturn and misgovernance.

But these indicators offer a broad statistical evaluation of the first years of Modi and Singh during UPA2.

A journey through the numbers

Economic Growth: Overall gross domestic product (GDP) growth in 2009-10, at constant prices, was reported to be 8.9 percent. After a change in calculation and base year, GDP growth isestimated to be 7.4 percent for 2014-15.

Agriculture: Agriculture, which employs about 600 million Indians, registered growth of 1.1 percent in 2014-15 compared to 0.8 percent during 2009-10. The numbers indicate a long-standing – and worsening – crisis.

Foreign-exchange reserves: Forex reserves increased 12 percent from $341 billion at the end of 2014-15 as compared to $304 billion at the end of 2013-14. For Singh in UPA2, they increased 5.4 percent from $241.7 billion at the end of 2008-09 to $254.9 billion in 2009-10.

Coal: Coal from India’s mines increased 8.2 percent in 2014-15, later falling into a controversy over botched allotments, one of the reasons for the decline in UPA2’s image. In 2009-10, production increased 8.1 percent. Performance of the coal sector is expected to improve with the re-allotment of 67 coal blocks through an auction, although Modi’s figure of Rs.2 lakh crore ($31.25 billion) windfall is now contested.

Petroleum: In 2014-15, consumption of petroleum products (diesel, petrol, LPG and the like) increased 3.1 percent, compared to 3.2 percent during 2009-10. India’s demand for petroleum products is expected to grow 3.3 percent in the next financial year, according to the oil ministry.

Electricity: A good indicator of an economy’s health, installed electricity capacity in 2014-15, rose 10 percentagainst 2013-14. In 2009-10, it increased 7.7 percent over the previous year.

Renewable energy: With pressure on India to cut carbon emissions renewable energy – it is responsible for 12 percent of India’s total installed power – growth rates were high during both terms. The total installed capacity of renewable energy reported a 7.56 percent growth in 2014-15 and growth of 17.20 percent in 2009-10.

Non-performing assets: NPAs of public sector banks increased 17 percent from Rs.2.27 lakh crore in March 2014 to Rs.2.73 lakh crore in December 2014, a carry-over from UPA2. Public sector bank NPAs had increased 23 percent in 2009-10 over the previous year. NPA growth rates of this magnitude can destabilise the banking system.
