After millions of passengers facing numerous hardships due to the ongoing RTC strike for the last four of days, popular film star and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna is the latest person to face the heat from the protesting employees of the RTC. This morning, a large section of employees staged an intense protest in front of Balayya’s residence in Hindupur.

The RTC labourers, employees and the leaders of RTC Joint Action Committee carried out a huge procession in Hindupur and ended up at Balayya’s residence. However, the MLA was not in town to address the protestors and the employees stuck a grievance letter on the wall of Balayya’s residence.

In their request, the JAC members requested Balayya to talk to the concerned authorities and even the Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and convince them to oblige their rightful demands. The protestors lamented that even after so many pleas and the ongoing strike, the officials are not in a mood to budge regarding their plight.

Uppal_stadium (84)

A team of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials have declared to seize Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal on Saturday for the non-payment of property and other related taxes which are accounted as Rs 12 Crore. Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA) of Uppal has alleged that Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) is not coming forward to pay the pending taxes despite repeated alerts. With no other option in hand, IALA said to have decided to lock-out the stadium.

However, this issue has been there for a while. In fact, GHMC officials tried to seize the stadium last Saturday ahead of the first IPL match. But after holding negotiations with HCA president Arshad Ayub, GHMC officials given additional time for the HCA to pay the property taxes which was not yet kept. This led GHMC to take steps to lock-out the stadium.

Meanwhile, the cricket fans are in dilemma as there are three IPL matches scheduled in the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in the next week. Sun Risers Hyderabad versus Kings XI Punjab match is slated for May 11. Sun Risers Hyderabad versus Royal Challengers Bangalore is scheduled for May 15 and Sun Risers Hyderabad versys Mumbai Indians match is due for May 17. With GHMC leaving no stone unturned to seize stadium, the aforementioned matches are in limbo. Above all, fans who have bought the tickets in advance for the matches are in big dilemma.

Going into details, HCA officials claim that they had never paid the property tax stating that it as a sports venue. However, GHMC officials has been insisting that since a lot of commercial activity going on in the stadium, property tax has to be paid. IALA is expected to seize the stadium in the presence of GHMC officials and the local MLA.

Mahesh Babu Is Angry?

Share

mahesh

Right now, superstar Mahesh is said to be very angry. Well, naturally, the next question would be who is he angry about? So the story from Film Nagar is that Mahesh terribly miffed with the unit of Baahubali. And here is the story.

If you have been following news, then you will know that Baahubali was slotted for release in May. So, the team of Koratala Siva’s Sreemanthudu decided that they will give Baahubali a month’s gap and decided to release their film in July or on July 17 to be more precise.

Since both their films are big, they felt that a month’s gap would be appropriate. Now, suddenly, Rajamouli has announced that he would be releasing Baahubali on July 17. And that’s precisely the reason why Mahesh is said to be really angry right now.

Naturally, his feelings are totally understood. Had Rajamouli announced the same some time back, then Mahesh would have pushed the film to May. Now, it will become a prestige issue and Koratala Siva and Mahesh will have to stick to July just to prove a point.

Prestige apart, releasing simultaneously will mean cut in revenues to both parties involved as the buyers will shell out huge amounts for both the films.

If both of them release with a gap, both of them will mint money at the box office. However, now it remains to be seen who will back off by July.

What Are You Doing Then?

Chandrababu Naidu seems to have forgotten that he is the Chief Minister and still speaking like the ‘Leader of Opposition’. Force of habit, you see!

Addressing a public meeting at Kamalapuram village in Kadapa district, Naidu said that several industrialists are not keen on setting up industries in Kadapa district because of the YSRCP leaders.

“They are preferring Chittoor, Krishna and Visakhapatnam districts as they are afraid of launching operations in the district,” said Naidu.

Citing the misdeeds of many high officials and people like Gali Janardhan Reddy, Naidu appealed to the people to boycott the leaders of the district who create terror.

As the Chief Minister, it is the responsibility of Naidu to usher in all-round development in the State.

If YSRCP leaders are really creating terror, then what are you doing as the CM? You have the power in your hands to set things right instead of resorting to opportunistic allegations.

So, it’s high time that you started acting instead of just leveling allegations or giving lame reasons.

Maoists Kidnap 400 Villagers Ahead of Modi visit

mavo

In a major set back to PM Narendra Modi and the Government of India, Maoists. abducted over 400 villagers from Marenga and neighbouring villages. In an attempt to send strong signal to the government, naxals took this drastic step and thus prove their foothold in Dantewada district of Chattisgarh. Naxals have already given two day ‘Dandakaranya bandh’ call on 8-9 May in support of their boycott to PM’s visit and held hostage of over 400 villagers. However, it hardly has any affect on Modi’s visit as the officials beefed up security at the programme venue of PM.

Modi is scheduled to inaugurate two mega projects for setting up of ultra mega steel plant and second phase of Rowghat-Jagdalpur railway line. The Prime Minister also scheduled to inaugurate an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and Police headquarters, besides laying the foundation stone for construction of 40,000 affordable houses for the Lower Income Group (LIG) and Economically Weaker Sections at Naya Raipur.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up of the ultra-mega steel plant at Dilmili village in Dantewada, with a capacity of three million tonne every year, will be signed during the Modi’s visit. This project will fetch Rs 18,000 crore for Chattisgarh. It’s expected that over 10,000 people in the region will have direct and indirect employment opportunities through this project.

Another MoU for second phase of railway-link between Rowghat and Jagdalpur will be inked during the Prime Minister’s visit. The 140-km rail link, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 24,000 crore, will connect Bastar region with important cities of the state like Raipur, Bilaspur and Durg. The rail link will also help in easy and cheaper transportation of iron ore for industries. These two projects are expected to rapidly help in socio-economic transformation of Bastar and thus hamper the growth of naxalism.

Narayana Works Harder Than Babu: Lokesh

lokesh

Chinna Babu Lokesh was all praise for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Narayana.

Speaking to NRIs in Bay area today, Lokesh had said that Narayana was working for nearly 22 hours in a day and that he was totally committed to the betterment of basic infrastructural facilities in the cities.

Lokesh added that he was clueless as to when Narayana would catch up on his sleep since he worked for 22 hours and spent the remaining 2 hours in his car.

Of course, it is not yet clear as to what were the reasons behind Lokesh’s mention, but if one follows the newspapers, it is pretty obvious that Narayana is totally involved in the developmental activities of the new capital.

Well, it is known that Chandra Babu is said to be obsessed with work and he is said to work for nearly 18 hours in a day

Comment: Who’s afraid of Rahul Gandhi?

Share

rahul1

Nothing shows the weakness of the Narendra Modi government more than the fact that it gives the impression of having been spooked by Rahul Gandhi to strive for a pro-poor image.

Hence, the directive to ministers to go around the country after the budget session to counter the perception that the government is anti-farmer.

In line with the Congress’ time-honoured practice of launching various schemes to help the poor, the BJP, too, is initiating several social security measures.

But the fact that it is fumbling in the dark is evident from the decision to invoke the saffron ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s “integral humanism” concept to burnish the government’s and the BJP’s image although the phrase is as meaningless to people outside the Hindutva camp as Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s espousal of “Gandhian socialism” when the BJP was formed in 1980.

No less fatuous is the hope in official and saffron circles that the Prasar Bharati’s radio and television channels will be able to spread the pro-poor message although it is no secret that the reach of Akashvani and Doordarshan remains as limited as it was before a saffronite was appointed as the Prasar Bharati’s head.

The point, however, is why should the government be running scared simply because Rahul Gandhi, with his batteries recharged in a Myanmar Buddhist monastery, has succeeded in infusing an element of belligerence into the Congress?

The government’s nervousness is all the more unwarranted because nearly all of Rahul’s allegations, based on unverifiable calumny and half-baked ideas of the social scene, can be easily refuted.

A simple rebuttal of his anti-industrial stance is that development itself is a pro-poor measure as it leads to employment-oriented growth which is brought about largely by the private sector. The government, therefore, has nothing to be apologetic about.

If it still gives the impression of being on the back foot, the reason apparently is that either the government does not have clear-cut ideas of what it intends to accomplish, or that there are not enough accomplished spokespersons in its ranks who can articulate its views with vigour.

Arguably, this uncertainty about the government’s objective – which has made fellow-traveller Arun Shourie accuse it of being “directionless” – is due to the transition which the BJP is currently making from being a party of ultra-orthodox, small town traders to an organization which sups in the sophisticated company of India Inc.

Given this dichotomy between the provincialism of the old Jan Sangh-BJP and the cosmopolitanism of its new avatar, the party is not sure whether it is on the right path.

Its problem has apparently been compounded by the dearth of an ideological wherewithal to buttress its case. Although always a rightwing outfit from its Jan Sangh days, the BJP’s outlook has been a mix of Hindu communalism and the commercialism of dingy shops in mofussil towns.

Now, however, it is moving into the glittering world of capitalism where the merchants operate on a global scale.

Moreover, big business shuns sectarianism because of the violence associated with the spread of divisive messages which hampers consumerism, the essence of capitalism. This is why Modi has clamped down on the Hindutva hardliners and has told Time magazine that the government will not “tolerate” any discrimination based on caste, creed and religion.

On the economic front, however, he is apparently still unsure about how far he can push his pro-business line against a political class which hasn’t always hesitated to put partisan interests above those of the nation.

Needless to say, the BJP itself has been a part of this cussed “culture” but, now, it is the Congress which is leading the pack comprising the communists and the caste-based Janata “parivar” to virtually oppose anything and everything which the government proposes.

It will be unfortunate, however, if this continuing political badgering deflects the prime minister from his developmental goal and turn to populism.

The lesson of the last general election is that welfare initiatives like sops and subsidies do not work at a time when the opening up of the economy has not only aroused what has been called the animal spirits of the entrepreneurs, but has also kindled the hope about the easy availability of jobs in a buoyant economy.

If populism was a panacea, then the Congress would have scored a runaway victory with its rural employment scheme (which do not build durable assets) or food security act (which puts an enormous strain on procurement, storage and distribution) or the right to education (where the absence of tests up to Class VIII has reduced the level of Class V students to that of Class II).

The average voter saw through the hollowness of such measures. Instead, it was Modi’s promise of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ (development for all) which paid political dividends to the BJP.

It will be a major mistake on the prime minister’s part, therefore, to change his line on being influenced by Rahul Gandhi’s anti-corporate sector tirades which will spell doom for the economic reforms and take India back to the 2-3 percent Hindu rate of growth of the licence-permit-control raj.

Why Salman Khan’s sentence is suspended?

Share
salman
The 5 years rigorous jail term sentence awarded to Salman Khan in the 2002 hit and run case was decided after trial for about 13 years but was dismissed in just couple of days arising the questions of vulnerable judicial process. The Bombay high court striking down the sentence will mean that it is rejecting it and the time that went in to the trial in the sessions court is sheer waste.
The judge while suspending the punishment made interesting comments, “It is not a case where the applicant is likely to abscond and both parties have no objection to hearing an appeal in a fast manner, so the sentence is suspended until an appeal is disposed. The judge even added that “We cannot take pleasure in seeing someone inside (jail) while his rights are being decided.”
However the heart wrenching thing in the entire issue is that the courts are so considerate about the rights of Salman Khan who obviously committed the crime but completely ignores the agony of the victims and their families. The next hearing of the case will be taken up in July. Perhaps the Dabangg star can even release Dabang 333 and Kick 455 before the case is finally solved. He may even die old as an under-trial
