In the film industry, comparisons are inevitable. Whether two movies share a similar plot or belong to the same genre, discussions and parallels among audiences start immediately. From small-budget films to big-ticket projects, these comparisons are quite common. When filmmakers sense that another film is touching a similar storyline, they usually try to rush their project to release first — a typical industry strategy.
It now seems that Tollywood’s talented director Prasanth Varma is doing something similar. After delivering the surprise blockbuster Hanu-Man last year — a small-budget film that grew into a massive pan-India success — Prasanth Varma gained wide recognition. His clever move of linking the film’s narrative with the Ramayana struck a strong chord, especially with North Indian audiences. Naturally, he followed it up by announcing its sequel, Jai Hanuman.
Originally, Prasanth Varma planned to take Jai Hanuman onto the sets immediately after Hanu-Man’s success and release it for Sankranthi this year. However, due to multiple reasons, the project kept getting delayed. The film features Rishab Shetty in the lead role, but his packed schedule and commitments to other films made it difficult for him to allocate dates on time.
But now, according to the latest buzz, Rishab Shetty has finally allotted six months—January to June—exclusively for Jai Hanuman. After delivering a strong hit with Kantara: Chapter 1, Jai Hanuman is expected to be his next major release. With Rishab now available, Prasanth Varma reportedly plans to fast-track the entire shoot and push the film towards an early release.
Adding to the urgency is another major factor: Rajamouli–Mahesh Babu’s ‘Varanasi’ movie, which is rumored to have narrative elements linked to the Ramayana as well. This seems to have added pressure on Prasanth Varma to speed up Jai Hanuman, so his film gets ahead in the mythological-action space. The recent controversies between Hanu-Man’s producer Niranjan Reddy and Prasanth Varma may also be pushing him to deliver this sequel quickly and decisively.
With the script work already completed, Prasanth Varma is set on racing ahead with production. After setting pan-India records with Hanu-Man, all eyes are now on how big Jai Hanuman will go and what new benchmarks it might achieve.
