Andhra Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker and TDP MLA Raghurama Krishna Raju has voiced serious concern over the slow pace of investigation in the custodial torture case linked to his arrest during the previous YSRCP regime.
Raghurama, who was detained between 2019 and 2024 as a rebel MP, has alleged that he was subjected to custodial torture after being booked in a sedition case by the CID. Former AP CID chief and IPS officer P.V. Sunil Kumar is the prime accused in the case, and Raghurama has been consistently pursuing legal action against him.
Addressing the media, Raghurama said that despite investigators questioning Sunil Kumar for several hours recently, there has been no meaningful progress in the case. He questioned the prolonged delay and expressed concern that the absence of decisive action even after a considerable period sends a wrong message to the public.
He clarified that the delay does not personally affect him, but warned that it could seriously harm the credibility of the government and erode public confidence in governance and the police system. Raghurama stressed that swift justice is essential to reassure citizens that the rule of law is intact and functioning effectively.
His remarks have sparked fresh political debate, with attention now focused on how the government will respond to the concerns raised and whether concrete action will follow in the coming days.
