Raj Rachakonda: Code, Cinema, and Conscience

Share

Raj Rachakonda is a rare blend of technologist and storyteller—a U.S.-based IT programmer whose passion for filmmaking has led him to craft some of the most poignant narratives in contemporary Indian cinema. Balancing a career in technology with a deep-rooted artistic vision, Raj has built a reputation for creating socially relevant films that resonate across cultures and communities.

He made a remarkable directorial debut with Mallesham (2019), a biographical drama based on the life of Chintakindi Mallesham, an innovator from rural Telangana. The film was widely lauded for its sincerity, emotional resonance, and cultural authenticity. He followed it up with 8 A.M. Metro (2023), a contemplative tale exploring urban loneliness, serendipitous connection, and the poetry of everyday life.

Now, Raj is set to make a powerful statement with his latest film, 23, releasing on May 16. This hard-hitting social drama interweaves three real-life incidents—the 1991 Tsunduru massacre, the 1993 Chilakaluripeta bus burning, and the 1997 Jubilee Hills car bomb—into a compelling narrative that examines caste-based violence, systemic injustice, and the resilience of the human spirit.

With 23, Raj Rachakonda once again demonstrates his commitment to cinema that not only tells stories but sparks conversations. His unique ability to merge his technical acumen with a deep sensitivity to human experience makes him a distinct and influential voice in Indian filmmaking today.
