Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rekha Gupta has been named the new Chief Minister of Delhi, marking a major political shift in the national capital. The decision was announced following a BJP legislature party meeting held on Wednesday. With this, the BJP returns to power in Delhi after a 27-year gap, ending a decade-long rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The BJP secured a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, winning 44 out of 70 seats. The results, declared on February 8, signified a strong comeback for the party in a state where it had struggled for decades. Gupta’s appointment is seen as a strategic move, leveraging her experience and leadership to drive the party’s governance agenda in the capital.
The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place on February 20 at Ramlila Maidan, where top BJP leaders, party workers, and thousands of supporters are expected to be present.
