For the past few days, Kantara hero Rishab Shetty has been trending on social media, but not for the right reasons. His speech in Hyderabad, delivered mostly in Kannada with just a few words of broken Telugu, did not sit well with the audience and quickly sparked criticism. Trolls flooded online platforms, with some even calling for a boycott. Realizing the damage, Rishab corrected his approach at the Vijayawada event, where he struck the right chord with fans.
On stage, Rishab clarified that Telugu and Kannada are sibling languages, and as a proud Kannadiga, he holds every language in respect. He admitted the issue was not disrespect but simply his lack of fluency in Telugu. To make amends, he gave his word to Mythri Ravi that by the time his next film Jai Hanuman releases, he will speak proper Telugu, a promise that instantly earned applause.
He also expressed heartfelt thanks to Prabhas for launching the trailer, Jr NTR for backing the Hyderabad event, and Pawan Kalyan and Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu for supporting the film. Unlike his long Kannada-heavy speech in Hyderabad, Rishab kept his Vijayawada remarks short and mostly in Telugu, proving he had taken the trolling to heart.
Now, all eyes are on Kantara Chapter 1, which is gearing up for premieres within a day. Advance bookings opened later than expected due to theatre-related issues, raising doubts on whether the 10 PM premieres will happen as planned. With high expectations, premium ticket prices in AP, and divided opinions among Telugu audiences, the film faces a crucial test. Ultimately, only if the content surpasses expectations can Rishab Shetty’s ambitious vision transform into the blockbuster fans are waiting for.
