Rishab Shetty Reacts to Language Controversy at Kantara: Chapter 1 Event

At the pre-release event of Kantara: Chapter 1 in Hyderabad, director and lead actor Rishab Shetty drew flak from Telugu audiences for speaking in Kannada while promoting the Telugu version. Many felt it was disrespectful to the local language, leading to widespread backlash.

Addressing the controversy at another event today, Rishab chose not to directly mention the incident but clarified his stance on languages. Speaking in fluent Hindi, he said:

“I think in Kannada and because of that, I tend to speak in Kannada. But I love to learn new languages. When I go to one place and speak, I should not disrespect the language of the land, though sometimes it misfires. I am a proud Kannadiga who will think, speak, and write in Kannada. At the same time, I equally respect and love other languages. The core of all languages is the same, and I will put effort into learning and speaking them.”

Interestingly, while Rishab spoke confidently in Hindi, he did not attempt Telugu—something many Kannadigas generally find easier to pick up.

Kantara: Chapter 1 is set for a grand theatrical release on October 2, 2025, with paid premieres scheduled for October 1.
