Juhi Chawla Tops Hurun Rich List as India’s Richest Actress
Juhi Chawla has emerged as India’s richest actress, topping the Hurun India Rich List 2025 with an estimated net worth of ₹7,790 crore. Her wealth now exceeds that of several leading Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and Hrithik Roshan, underscoring a journey of success that extends far beyond cinema.
Juhi made her Bollywood debut in 1986 with Sultanat, but it was the 1988 blockbuster Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak opposite Aamir Khan that turned her into a household name. Throughout the 1990s, she ruled the box office with back-to-back hits, earning immense popularity for her bubbly screen presence and effortless comic timing.
Expanding her horizons, Juhi ventured into film production by co-founding Dreamz Unlimited with Shah Rukh Khan and director Aziz Mirza. The banner produced films like Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000), Asoka (2001), and Chalte Chalte (2003). Despite the star-studded lineup, these films underperformed commercially, eventually leading to the company’s closure.
After the birth of her son in the early 2000s, Juhi gradually stepped away from regular film work. Her last theatrical release was Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019), followed by appearances in Netflix projects Friday Night Plan and The Railway Men in 2023.
A major turning point in her financial journey came in 2008, when she, along with her husband Jay Mehta and Shah Rukh Khan, acquired the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹600 crore. Though the team faced early struggles, KKR went on to win IPL titles in 2012, 2014, and 2024, becoming one of the league’s most successful franchises. Reports suggest KKR’s 2024 title victory pushed its valuation to nearly ₹9,000 crore, significantly boosting Juhi’s net worth.
Jay Mehta, Juhi’s husband, is the Executive Chairman of Saurashtra Cement Limited, a leading name in India’s cement industry. Together, the couple has made extensive investments in real estate across India and abroad and reside in a sea-facing luxury home in Mumbai’s prestigious Malabar Hills.
Juhi has also diversified into the hospitality business, owning two popular restaurants in Mumbai — the premium Lebanese restaurant Rue du Liban in Kala Ghoda and the Italian café Gustoso in Bandra.
With sharp business instincts, strategic partnerships, and long-term investments, Juhi Chawla has built a formidable financial empire that far surpasses her acting career, firmly establishing her as India’s richest actress today.
