Responding to the ‘call money scandal’, one TDP legislator said off the record, “Who asked these people to take loans at such high interests in the first place?” When there are scores of TDP functionaries involved in this inhuman racket, this kind of response is completely uncalled for and highly insensitive.
But, in a way, it also indicates the ground reality. Poor people in this State and country hardly get access to loans at any reasonable rates of interest. The government is only interested in their vote after which they are conveniently forgotten. But acknowledged loan defaulters like Sujana Chowdary are made Union Ministers. His company owes a whopping Rs 4000 crore to banks.
And what about the likes of Lagadapati Rajagopal, Kavuri Samba Siva Rao etc? These so called gentlemen are rewarded with Parliament seats and cabinet berths whereas the common man loses all honor and dignity when he takes a loan from the hoodlums of these very people.
