Mahesh Babu–Rajamouli’s Varanasi Antarctica Shoot, Big Break Ahead

Superstar Mahesh Babu and ace filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli are currently shooting a crucial schedule for their ambitious project Varanasi in Antarctica—a location rarely explored by film crews. This high-stakes schedule is said to play a key role in establishing the film’s масштаб and visual grandeur.
Once this demanding leg wraps up, the team is expected to take a significant break—not just a short pause, but a strategic reset. For a project of this scale, such gaps are often used to review shot footage, reassess creative direction, and meticulously plan the next phase of production.
Meanwhile, there’s another interesting development. Rajamouli’s visual spectacle Eega is set for a special screening in Mexico. Buzz suggests that members of the Varanasi team, possibly including Mahesh Babu, might attend the event. Though unrelated to the current shoot, it highlights Rajamouli’s continued global outreach for his films.
As per current plans, the Varanasi team will complete the Antarctica schedule, attend the Mexico screening, and then take a long production break. The film is tentatively slated for a grand release on April 7, 2027, as a single-part project. However, given Rajamouli’s history with large-scale storytelling like Baahubali, there is ongoing speculation about whether Varanasi might eventually be split into two parts.
Balancing such massive schedules, budgets, and expectations is no easy task. While delays can increase pressure, rushing a film of this magnitude is not an option either. All eyes are now on how Rajamouli navigates the next phase once the team returns to India.
