Balakrishna Injury Highlights Actors’ Stunt Risks

The recent injury suffered by Nandamuri Balakrishna during the shooting of his upcoming film NBK 111 has once again brought attention to the physical challenges and risks actors take while performing high-intensity action sequences.
Balakrishna reportedly sustained a minor muscle tear while filming an action scene in Kakinada. Following medical advice, the veteran actor has been advised to undergo a minor surgical procedure to ensure a complete and quick recovery. The film’s makers also shared an official update regarding his health condition.
Reacting to the incident, filmmaker and producer M.S. Raju praised Balakrishna’s commitment towards cinema despite being in his 60s. He appreciated the actor’s dedication to performing demanding action sequences and said that, given his stature, Balakrishna could easily avoid such physically challenging scenes but continues to push himself to deliver the best for audiences.
M.S. Raju highlighted that the hardships behind an actor’s performance often remain unseen by viewers. He explained that while audiences enjoy action scenes and celebrate heroic moments on screen, actors and stunt performers undergo intense physical effort and risks during filming.
The filmmaker also recalled Ram Charan’s injury during the shooting of Peddi, where the actor reportedly suffered a blow near his eyebrow while performing a wrestling sequence. Despite the injury, Ram Charan continued shooting, showcasing his professionalism and commitment towards completing the schedule.
Raju further mentioned that several top actors, including Prabhas and Mahesh Babu, have faced injuries during film shoots but continued their work with determination. According to him, an actor’s life involves constant physical challenges, especially while performing risky action sequences designed to entertain fans.
While acknowledging that safety measures in the Telugu film industry have improved over the years, M.S. Raju stated that there is still scope for further development. He added that although the industry may not have the same level of safety infrastructure as Hollywood, stunt teams and filmmakers take several precautions to protect actors during action shoots. However, accidents can still occur despite careful planning.
Over the years, several Telugu actors have suffered injuries while performing stunts. Dr. Rajasekhar faced a serious ankle injury during the shooting of Biker, Vishwak Sen was injured during an action rehearsal for Gangs of Godavari, Naga Shaurya suffered a leg fracture while filming a stunt sequence, and Sharwanand sustained injuries during a skydiving sequence for the Telugu remake of 96.
M.S. Raju admired the courage and dedication of actors who take such risks for their films while also stressing the importance of prioritising safety. He concluded that while commitment towards cinema is admirable, an actor’s health remains the most valuable asset.
