Before becoming the IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 2024, Nara Lokesh played a crucial role within the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) during the 2019–24 period. At a time when the party was going through a challenging phase, he actively led the cadres and introduced a highly successful membership drive that included health insurance benefits, which proved to be a game changer for the party.
Now, the TDP leadership has elevated Lokesh to a more prominent role by appointing him as the Working President of the party, a position he has taken up with immediate effect. Until now, he had been serving as the National General Secretary under the guidance of his father, N. Chandrababu Naidu, who continues as the party’s National President.
With this new responsibility, Lokesh will be expected to ensure strong coordination between the party leadership and grassroots cadres. Alongside managing Andhra Pradesh’s investment portfolio and engaging with global companies, he will now also oversee key party affairs and organizational activities.
This marks a significant transition, especially considering that Chandrababu Naidu has balanced both governance and party leadership responsibilities for over four decades. Lokesh is now stepping in to share that burden and gradually establish his own leadership within the party.
Encouragingly for Lokesh, the transition appears to have been smooth, with widespread acceptance from party leaders and cadres alike. His approachable nature and consistent work ethic have worked in his favor so far.
However, the new role comes with its own set of challenges. Balancing administrative duties with party responsibilities will test his leadership skills, and Lokesh will need to stay at the top of his game to successfully navigate this expanded role.
