Teja Sajja’s Mirai Breaks Records on OTT and TV

Share

Teja Sajja has continued his winning streak with Mirai, which has emerged as a sensational blockbuster at the box office. Directed by Karthik Ghattamaneni, the film has received extraordinary acclaim across all platforms.

Following its release on Jio Hotstar, Mirai recorded exceptional streaming numbers, resonating strongly with both young viewers and family audiences. The film created yet another milestone with its World Television Premiere on Star Maa, registering a phenomenal TRP of 9.1+, peaking at 10.80 during the final hour—marking the highest TRP of 2026.

At a time when many films struggle to achieve strong television ratings due to early OTT releases, Mirai stands out as a rare success, performing exceptionally in theatres, OTT, and TV.

Produced by TG Vishwa Prasad’s People Media Factory, the film has impressed audiences with its balanced blend of spirituality, action, emotion, and fantasy.

Mirai also made waves on Hindi television, with its reception comparable to the blockbuster Saiyaara. It went on to become Star Gold’s top-rated film of 2025, surprising many with its cross-lingual appeal.

Over 3,800 Indians Deported from US in 2025

Share

The Government of India informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that over 3,800 Indian nationals were deported from the United States in 2025. According to data shared in a written response to a query by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, 3,414 Indians were deported through Washington till mid-December.

Congress member Randeep Singh Surjewala had sought details on the number of Indian nationals deported from the US and other countries over the past five years, along with preventive measures such as registration or licensing of travel agencies and border coordination to protect vulnerable youth. He also inquired whether any targets or timelines have been fixed to curb illegal migration through the so-called “Dunki route.”

The term “Dunki route” refers to illegal immigration channels, particularly those leading to North America. The data also provided deportation figures by Indian consulates in the US: New York (47), Atlanta (31), Houston (234), San Francisco (49), and Seattle (31).

Singh emphasized that the Indian government works closely with the US and other countries on deportation matters and maintains constant dialogue with US authorities to ensure “humane treatment” of Indian nationals, particularly women and children, during deportation operations.

The government also highlighted actions against illegal recruitment agents, criminal facilitators, and human trafficking networks. Based on deportee testimonies, central and state authorities have registered cases, and investigations are ongoing.

The Ministry of External Affairs underlined that the safety and well-being of Indian nationals traveling abroad for employment remain a top priority. As per the Emigration Act of 1983, no person or agency can operate as a recruiting agent (RA) without a valid license from the Protector General of Emigrants. Mandatory registration of RAs aims to prevent fraud and exploitation of Indian emigrants.

Additionally, Emigration Clearance (EC) is required for Emigration Check Required (ECR) passport holders traveling to any of the 19 notified ECR countries. The ministry also issues advisories via the eMigrate portal, social media, and other channels to alert prospective emigrants about fake job rackets. By December 2025, a total of 3,505 unregistered agents in India had been notified on the eMigrate portal.

Pawan Kalyan Slams YCP Over Tirumala Laddu Controversy

Share

Andhra Pradesh politics have come to revolve almost entirely around Tirumala, as the sacred hill shrine finds itself at the centre of intense political turmoil following allegations of Tirumala laddu contamination.
The NDA government has made it clear that those responsible will not be spared. In this backdrop, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan made strong and pointed remarks, launching a scathing attack on the YSR Congress Party and its leadership.

Pawan Kalyan stated that the controversy is rooted in the ideology of the YCP itself. “These are the same people who once argued that Tirumala does not need seven hills and that two hills are enough. That party was born out of such thinking, so what more can we expect from them?” he remarked.

The Deputy CM also recalled the controversial remarks allegedly made by former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy about Tirumala, using them to target YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over the sensitive laddu issue. He accused the YCP of consistently downplaying serious incidents during its tenure.

“These are the same people who claimed that Vivekananda Reddy died of a heart attack when he was brutally murdered. They ignored the theft of silver statues from the Durga Temple and remained silent when deities were burnt during their rule. Now, they are saying there is no Tirumala laddu contamination,” Kalyan said.
Continuing his attack, Pawan Kalyan alleged that the YCP has a pattern of creating confusion and escaping accountability. “They have the habit of throwing everything into a blender and running away. But this time, we will not let them escape. Those responsible will be held accountable,” he asserted.

Nidhhi Agerwal Plans Comeback After Big-Budget Setbacks

Share

Nidhhi Agerwal’s recent career trajectory highlights the high stakes of big-budget cinema, especially for actresses. In the film industry, time is precious, and peak years wait for no one. Nidhhi invested over five years in two large-scale pan-India projects, hoping they would elevate her career.

She signed Hari Hara Veera Mallu with Pawan Kalyan and The Raja Saab with Prabhas. Acting alongside two superstars in massive pan-India films seemed like a golden opportunity. A blockbuster from even one of these projects could have significantly boosted her market value across languages.

However, big films carry big risks. Both projects faced long delays, shifting scripts, and multiple changes in release dates. Nidhhi remained committed throughout, which meant passing up several other films that could have kept her more consistently visible.

When the films finally released, the results fell short of expectations. Neither Hari Hara Veera Mallu nor The Raja Saab became the game-changing hits many had anticipated. The years-long investment did not yield the payoff she hoped for, leaving her in a challenging position.

That said, her journey is far from over. She still holds recognition, particularly in Telugu cinema, and maintains a strong social media presence, keeping her connected to fans. Nidhhi now appears to be shifting her strategy—opting for quicker, tighter films with clear storytelling rather than solely relying on massive star-driven projects. Reports indicate she has several new projects in discussion, including films in both Telugu and Hindi.

The film industry often rewards smart choices and calculated risks. For Nidhhi Agerwal, the upcoming projects could be crucial in redefining her trajectory and cementing her place in the industry.

Ram Charan’s Peddi Faces Tight Schedule Ahead of April 30 Release

Share

Ram Charan’s Peddi has officially moved out of the March release schedule, with the makers announcing a new release date of April 30. However, trade circles in Tollywood are skeptical about whether the film will meet this deadline.

The primary concern is pending work. Nearly 45 days of shooting and related activities are still incomplete. Even if the team works continuously, the shoot is expected to finish only by the end of March. Following this, post-production and promotional activities will occupy most of April, leaving a very tight timeline.

Any unexpected delays, which are common in big productions due to logistics or date issues, could push the release further. While the makers are striving to maintain a continuous workflow, the final release will depend on the firm commitment of both Ram Charan and director Buchi Babu Sana. Without that, another postponement cannot be ruled out.

Prabhas’ Vintage Song Choice Adds ₹11 Crore to The Raja Saab Budget

Share

The reasons behind the ballooning budget of The Raja Saab are gradually coming to light. Previously, reports highlighted how the Prabhas-Srinu episode significantly increased costs due to Prabhas’s decisions. Now, another major factor has emerged—song rights.

Using old, iconic songs in new films has become a popular trend in Tollywood. When done well, a vintage track can greatly benefit a film, as seen in Gaddalakonda Ganesh (Velluvocchi Godaramma), K Ramp (Idemitamma, Maya Maya), and even Mana Siva Shankara Vara Prasad Garu (Sundari…) across three languages. However, old songs cannot be used freely; filmmakers must first acquire the rights, which can cost several lakhs per song, and in rare cases, even crores.

For The Raja Saab, the team wanted a strong mass song featuring the hero with three heroines. Prabhas suggested remixing the iconic disco track “Koi Yahan… Aha… Nacho Nacho” from Disco Dancer. Once he insisted, the filmmakers had little choice but to comply. The vintage song rights reportedly cost a staggering ₹11 crore—an amount far higher than even top music directors like Thaman command for their compositions.

While this expense could have funded multiple new songs, Prabhas’s fondness for the classic track left the production with no alternative, further inflating the already hefty budget of The Raja Saab.

Naseeruddin Shah Alleges Disinvite Over Political Views

Share

Senior actor Naseeruddin Shah has claimed he was disinvited from a university event due to his political views, which are critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah was initially invited to attend Jashn-e-Urdu, organised by the Urdu Department of Mumbai University on February 1. However, he was later informed that his presence was no longer required, with no official reason provided. Shah believes the decision was a result of his outspoken criticism of Modi.

In a newspaper opinion piece, Shah referred to the Prime Minister as a self-proclaimed Vishwaguru and expressed longstanding dissatisfaction with his leadership. He also criticised the NDA government, saying dissent is increasingly labelled as anti-national.

Shah highlighted issues such as rising hate, arrests of activists, and changes to the education system as causes for concern. Mumbai University has not yet responded to his claims.

Nothing CEO Carl Pei on AI-Powered Personalized Smartphone OS

Share

While Artificial Intelligence (AI) is often highlighted as a consumer tech buzzword, most current devices still rely on manual prompts, says Nothing CEO Carl Pei. Speaking at the World Government Summit 2026, Pei outlined his vision for the future of smartphone operating systems, emphasizing personalization. “In the future, everybody will have their own personalised operating system, because we’re all different,” he said.

Nothing’s approach is not to build a single OS for billions of users, but to create a one-to-one operating system tailored to individual needs. Pei explained that people have different goals and personalities, requiring a more personalized way to interact with smartphones.

Currently, Nothing’s AI-powered tool, “Essential Apps,” still requires users to manually issue natural language prompts. The next phase, however, aims for the system to learn user patterns, automatically suggest and position tools on the phone, and eventually predict and execute tasks without user input. “We don’t have to ask anymore, because once we’re certain about what people want on their phones, it just automatically place it,” Pei added.

Pei also highlighted how AI is accelerating internal development through “vibe coding.” He shared, “I’ve been doing a lot of vibe coding since January… and I think the models improved significantly in December last year. Now it’s actually helping me in product development.” By leveraging enhanced AI models, Pei has prototyped features that had been on the company’s back burner for years, pushing Nothing’s innovation forward.

Vishal Sikka on AI: Enhancing Work, Not Replacing Humans

Share

The rapid adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in recent years has generated concern across industries, particularly in software and IT. Vishal Sikka, former Infosys CEO and founder of AI startup Vianai Systems, notes that AI disruption in software is not sudden but has been evolving for years.

Speaking on X (formerly Twitter), Sikka said, “I have been in these two industries for 28+ years, and in AI since I was a student — so ‘sudden’ makes me smile.” He highlighted that the real focus should not be on the speed of adoption but on how unevenly AI is reshaping work. Referring to Melanie Mitchell’s description of AI as a “jagged frontier,” he pointed out that AI accelerates routine, well-defined tasks but struggles with contextual reasoning that requires human judgment.

Sikka also observed that AI tools are reducing the need for deep technical knowledge, as less-experienced employees can now handle many routine or technical tasks. Meanwhile, tasks requiring human insight and judgment remain unchanged. He explained, “This helps them do in real-time what they did before in slow, costly, complex ways, but go far beyond that and do things that simply couldn’t be done before. And in the process, save massively in the clean up of legacy.”

As AI continues to transform industries, Sikka emphasizes that the goal should be to integrate the technology to refine workflows rather than replace human thinking or creativity. AI should enhance problem-solving, insight, and innovation, serving as a tool to augment human potential, not supplant it.

New Zealand Minimum Wage Hike Impacts Migrant Worker Visas

Share

A modest increase in New Zealand’s minimum wage is set to have broader implications beyond payroll adjustments. From April 1, 2026, the adult minimum wage will rise to $23.95 per hour, up from $23.50, while starting-out and training wages will increase to $19.16 per hour, maintaining the 80 percent link to the adult rate.

For employers relying on migrant labour, the change carries added significance. Beyond higher wage bills, it directly affects visa eligibility and compliance, particularly for roles paid at or near the minimum wage.

Any work visa application lodged on or after April 1, 2026 that includes a job offer must meet or exceed the new minimum wage. This requirement applies across visa categories, including the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). Employers with migrant workers currently earning minimum wage will need to ensure pay adjustments are made by April 1, 2026, employment agreements reflect the revised rates, and any new or pending visa applications meet the updated threshold. Applications that fall short of the required pay at the time of lodgement risk being declined, even if the role and employer otherwise meet eligibility criteria.

While the increase itself may seem small, the compliance impact can be significant. Immigration New Zealand assesses visa applications based on the pay rate in effect when the application is submitted, not when the job offer was originally made. For employers with multiple migrant workers, especially in lower-paid roles, the change may affect the timing of AEWV applications or renewals, workforce and salary budgeting, and job design where wages sit close to the minimum threshold.

Businesses planning recruitment or visa renewals around March 2026 should act proactively. Employers can mitigate risks by reviewing which migrant workers are paid at or near the minimum wage, confirming whether upcoming visa applications will fall after April 1, and updating employment agreements as needed.

This approach will help ensure compliance, avoid delays in visa processing, and smoothly manage workforce transitions following the minimum wage increase.

Qatar Introduces 10-Year Residency for Entrepreneurs and Executives

Share

Qatar is expanding its long-term residency framework as part of a strategic push to attract global talent, entrepreneurs, and investors. The country will introduce a 10-year residency programme for entrepreneurs and senior executives, announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as Doha seeks to bolster business growth and accelerate economic diversification.

This initiative places Qatar alongside regional peers such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, both of which have recently introduced long-term residency options to attract skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and investment capital.

In addition to the residency plan, Al Thani revealed that the Qatar Investment Authority will increase its venture capital programme by $2 billion, enhancing the country’s startup ecosystem. This expansion builds on Qatar’s existing “Fund of Funds” initiative, currently valued at $1 billion, which was designed to attract venture capital firms, support entrepreneurship, and reduce reliance on gas revenues.

The new 10-year residency programme complements Qatar’s existing long-term visa options, including the Golden Visa programme, officially called the Qatar Residency by Investment scheme. Launched in September 2020, this scheme allows foreign nationals to secure long-term residency through real estate investment and has become one of the Gulf’s most competitive investor visa options.

Applicants under the investment route can choose between a temporary residence permit, requiring a minimum real estate investment of $200,000 (QAR 728,000), or a permanent residence permit, requiring a minimum investment of $1 million (QAR 3.65 million) in government-approved areas for foreign ownership.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid passport, be in good health, maintain a clean criminal record, and provide proof of the qualifying investment. Permanent residency applicants also need to obtain a Qatari ID, pay a state fee of $824, and demonstrate proficiency in Arabic. Qatar enforces an annual quota for permanent residency, requiring applicants to wait a year if the cap is reached.

Required documentation includes proof of investment, passport copies, police clearance certificates, medical reports, fee receipts, and evidence of sufficient financial means. The application process typically takes four to six weeks, subject to government verification.

Golden Visa holders are permitted to live and work in Qatar without a local sponsor, own property in approved zones, establish businesses independently, sponsor family members, and access healthcare and education services. The visa also allows unrestricted entry and exit during its validity, providing flexibility and security for long-term residents.

Elon Musk Sparks Debate: Money Can’t Buy Happiness

Share

Elon Musk, widely recognized as the world’s richest person, has sparked online conversation after sharing his thoughts on the long-standing idea that wealth does not guarantee happiness. In a recent social media post, the tech entrepreneur suggested that those who first coined the phrase truly understood its deeper meaning. The brief statement quickly gained traction, prompting both reflective and humorous responses from users.

“Whoever said ‘money can’t buy happiness’ really knew what they were talking about,” Musk wrote, ending the post with a sad-face emoji. Despite its simplicity, the remark ignited discussions across platforms, with many weighing in on the complex relationship between wealth and emotional well-being.

Reactions ranged from agreement to irony and playful curiosity. Some users joked that Musk should share his fortune so others could test his theory firsthand. Others reflected on the paradox of wealth, noting that while money can provide necessities like food and shelter, it cannot guarantee fulfillment, restful sleep, or emotional contentment. Several pointed out that financial struggles often bring stress, with bills and obligations creating constant pressure.

Humorous takes also emerged, with one commenter asking Musk to send them a million dollars to better grasp his perspective. Another quipped that philosophical wisdom is easier to embrace when basic living expenses are already taken care of. Some users turned serious, suggesting that redistributing wealth from billionaires to vulnerable populations could enhance collective happiness and improve lives through humanitarian support.

Musk’s financial status further underscores the irony of his post. With an estimated net worth of around $841.1 billion, he is the first person to surpass the $800 billion mark. This leap in wealth followed SpaceX’s acquisition of his artificial intelligence venture, xAI. Before the deal, Musk reportedly held 42% of SpaceX and 49% of xAI; post-merger, he now owns roughly 43% of the combined entity, consolidating his position at the top of global wealth rankings.

Musk’s remark has reignited the debate about whether immense financial success can truly bring happiness—a question that continues to spark discussion worldwide.

UAE Schools Announce Revised Ramadan 2026 Schedule

Share

As Ramadan is expected to begin on February 19, 2026, education authorities in the United Arab Emirates have announced a revised academic schedule to help students balance their studies with participation in the holy month. The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) have introduced a plan that reduces classroom hours while giving families more time for religious observances.

During the first week of Ramadan (February 19–22), schools will operate on reduced hours, with classes limited to a maximum of five hours per day. This schedule will continue into the second week (February 23–27), when many schools are also likely to conduct end-of-Term 2 examinations. In the third week (March 2–6), institutions may maintain shorter days, with some offering remote learning on Fridays. Lessons will primarily focus on core subjects, ensuring that the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan is respected. The fourth week (March 9–13) marks the final week of classes before spring break, allowing schools to wrap up academic activities. Spring break will run from March 16 to March 27, coinciding with the latter part of Ramadan, followed by school closures from March 30 to April 1 for the Eid Al Fitr public holidays.

Most schools will begin between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, with classes concluding by early afternoon, typically 1:00 PM or 2:00 PM, so that daily learning does not exceed five hours. Fridays will follow an even shorter schedule, with students dismissed by 11:30 AM to allow adequate time for the weekly congregational prayer. Parents are advised to confirm the exact timetable with their child’s school, as start and end times may vary. Examination schedules will continue as planned, so students should prepare their study routines accordingly. Cafeteria services may also be limited during fasting hours, and children not observing the fast may need to carry their own meals.

Officials have emphasized that the adjustments are intended to promote student well-being, strengthen family connections, and respect the significance of Ramadan, while ensuring that educational standards are maintained. By reducing full school days, offering flexible learning arrangements, and aligning holidays with the season, the UAE aims to help students and educators navigate the month with ease. The updated timetable is expected to provide a smoother routine for families while keeping learning on track during this meaningful period.
