Prabhas Denies Maruthi Reunion Rumours

Share

Recent rumours suggesting that Prabhas would team up again with director Maruthi for a new Hombale Films project have been firmly denied. Prabhas’ PR team dismissed the reports as completely baseless, stating that the speculation seemed to emerge out of nowhere and appeared aimed at creating unnecessary negativity around the actor.

Currently, Prabhas is fully focused on his upcoming films Fauji and Spirit, both expected to release within the next 14 months. Fans have high expectations, hoping these projects will mark a strong comeback for the star.

The rumours gained traction largely due to Prabhas’ last release, The Raja Saab, directed by Maruthi, which turned out to be a major box-office disappointment. The horror-fantasy entertainer failed to meet expectations, leaving fans critical of the final product.

Prabhas had previously trusted Maruthi, known for hits like Bhale Bhale Magadivoy, hoping to deliver a light-hearted entertainer amid his action-heavy lineup. However, weak execution, poor visual effects, and a much-criticised face-swapping technique drew heavy trolling, and the film was eventually branded a disaster.

In light of this, Prabhas’ team has made it clear that there are no plans for another collaboration with Maruthi, putting an end to the speculation.

Tollywood Awaits Updates on Allu Arjun and NTR’s Big Pan-India Films

Share

Both 2026 and 2027 are shaping up to be critical years for Tollywood, with several highly anticipated pan-India big-budget films slated for release. The box office performance of these films will be closely watched by trade circles, especially after 2025 proved disappointing, with no Telugu film entering the prestigious ₹500 crore or ₹1000 crore clubs. There is mounting pressure on the industry to deliver major hits, reminiscent of its previous peak years.

Some of the upcoming high-profile releases, such as Spirit, Varanasi, and Peddi, have already begun generating buzz. The teams behind these films flagged off promotional activities well in advance, successfully creating hype beyond the Telugu-speaking states. The impressive content released by the makers has further boosted audience interest and expectations.

However, two other marquee projects have remained in complete radio silence since going on floors. One of them is Allu Arjun’s most expensive project with director Atlee, and the other is NTR’s big-budget pan-India drama under Prashanth Neel. Both AA22 and NTRNeel are carrying massive expectations, not just in trade circles but also among fans. Despite having gone on floors last year, neither project has announced a title or started promotions, leaving fans eagerly waiting for updates.

While there is still ample time before their releases, the lack of promotional activity risks diminishing initial hype. Fans are urging the makers to at least announce the titles to maintain engagement. Coming off a blockbuster with Pushpa 2, Allu Arjun enjoys strong momentum, whereas NTR is recovering from the commercial disappointment of War 2. With significant investments at stake for both films, it is increasingly urgent for the teams to kickstart promotions. Clarity on release dates and further updates will likely emerge only when the makers break their long silence.

Venkatesh’s Sankranthi Successes Boost Market Value

Share

Venkatesh is currently experiencing an exceptional phase in his career, riding the wave of back-to-back Sankranthi successes. His 2025 festive release, Sankranthiki Vastunnam, emerged as a major hit, reconnecting him strongly with family audiences. This momentum carried over into Sankranthi 2026 with Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, where even a limited role created significant buzz.

These consecutive holiday hits have firmly re-established Venkatesh as one of the most dependable stars for festival releases. His winning streak has also had a direct impact on his remuneration. Before Sankranthiki Vastunnam, he was reportedly charging around ₹10 crore per film. However, for Trivikram Srinivas’ Aadarsha Kutumbam House No:47, he commanded a substantially higher fee of ₹20 crore, marking a major jump.

Interestingly, for his guest appearance in Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, Venkatesh charged ₹15 crore, reflecting how his Sankranthi successes have significantly boosted his market value and demand.

Samantha’s Maa Inti Bangaram Teaser Creates Early Buzz

Share

Sometimes, a single well-cut teaser is enough to generate strong buzz around a film, and Maa Inti Bangaram—the second production venture backed by Samantha Ruth Prabhu—has done exactly that. Directed by Nandini Reddy, the film’s teaser was released a few days ago and has quickly captured attention, particularly among family audiences.

While details regarding when the film went on floors or the extent of shooting completed remain under wraps, the teaser has made a solid impact. A major highlight has been the dual shades portrayed by Samantha’s character, which has intrigued viewers and sparked curiosity about the narrative. This positive reception has naturally translated into growing interest from the trade.

Given that it is a Samantha-backed project, there is strong buzz that veteran producer Suresh Babu may handle the film’s marketing. Although this has not been officially confirmed yet, the Andhra distribution rights are currently said to be open.

According to trade sources, the makers are quoting a hefty price exceeding ₹5 crore for the combined Andhra and Rayalaseema rights. Several distributors have already entered negotiations, though the final deal is yet to be locked.

Adding further momentum to the film’s buzz is the involvement of The Family Man creator, who is backing the story. With a promising teaser, strong creative names attached, and Samantha’s star power, Maa Inti Bangaram has clearly gained solid traction in trade circles, pushing up both its demand and market value even at this early stage.

Rajamouli’s Varanasi Locks Strategic Festival Release

Share

The makers of Varanasi, directed by S S Rajamouli, have shed light on the meticulous planning behind the film’s theatrical release strategy and its distinctive promotional campaign, which began with a cryptic on-ground installation in the holy city of Varanasi.

The ambitious action-adventure epic is being produced under the banners of Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business, with K L Narayana and S S Karthikeya serving as producers. According to the team, the chosen release date of April 7, 2027, is the result of careful strategic planning aimed at maximising the film’s theatrical potential.

The date coincides with the festive season of Ugadi and Gudi Padwa, leads into a weekend, and is closely followed by Ambedkar Jayanti and Rama Navami. This cluster of holidays ensures an extended and uninterrupted theatrical window, allowing the film to enjoy sustained footfalls across multiple regions and demographics.

Narratively, Varanasi spans thousands of years and unfolds across multiple continents, with key locations ranging from Antarctica and Africa to the sacred Indian city that gives the film its name. One of the film’s major sequences is inspired by a chapter from the Indian epic Ramayana, centred on Lord Rama.

The timing of the release around Rama Navami, which marks the birth of Lord Rama, adds strong cultural and thematic resonance to the film’s storyline. With its epic scale, mythology-driven elements, and festival-aligned release plan, Varanasi is being positioned as a major theatrical event, aimed at maximising both cultural impact and box-office performance.

Dhurandhar Becomes Second-Highest Footfall Film Post-COVID

Share

Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, continues to create history at the box office with back-to-back milestones. Already crowned as the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, the Bollywood spy action thriller has now added another remarkable achievement to its name.

According to the latest data, Dhurandhar has recorded an impressive 3.5 crore footfalls during its 53-day theatrical run, making it the second-highest footfall-grossing film of the post-COVID era. What makes this feat even more noteworthy is that the film achieved these staggering numbers despite being released only across the Hindi belt, without the advantage of a pan-India multilingual release.

In the process, Dhurandhar has emerged as the most-watched Bollywood film of 2025, comfortably surpassing Chhaava, which registered around 3 crore footfalls. With this achievement, the film has firmly placed itself among the elite post-pandemic Hindi cinema blockbusters, joining the likes of Gadar 2, Jawan, and Stree 2.

However, the top spot in terms of post-COVID footfalls continues to be held by Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which amassed an extraordinary 3.7 crore footfalls during its lifetime run. With Dhurandhar nearing the end of its theatrical journey, surpassing Pushpa 2 now seems unlikely.

Nevertheless, Dhurandhar’s phenomenal performance has far exceeded expectations and cemented its place as one of the biggest box-office phenomena of the post-COVID era, reaffirming the enduring power of strong content backed by mass appeal.

‘Nari Nari Naduma Murari’: A Shock And A Surprise

Share

Vaa Vaathiyaar, released in Telugu as Annagaru Vasthunnaru, arrived in theatres during the Pongal/Sankranthi festive season. Unfortunately, the film turned out to be a major box-office failure and made a quick exit from cinemas before landing on OTT—a move that came as no surprise given its poor theatrical performance.

What is more concerning, however, is the OTT strategy surrounding Nari Nari Naduma Murari, starring Sharwanand. The film has emerged as one of the successful releases of this Sankranthi season and continues to perform well in theatres. Despite its healthy box-office run, the film is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 4, barely three weeks after its theatrical release.

This development raises a critical question: who will still choose to visit theatres when even successful films arrive on OTT platforms so quickly? A three-week theatrical window is often enough to significantly dilute audience curiosity, particularly among family audiences who typically plan theatre visits in advance. Early OTT premieres risk reducing footfalls, even for films that are performing well on the big screen.

The trend is largely driven by the nature of OTT deals. Streaming platforms often offer higher acquisition prices for films that agree to shorter theatrical windows. If producers insist on extending the theatrical run, they are usually required to compromise on a significant portion of the deal value. Given the unpredictability of box-office returns, many producers choose financial security over a longer theatrical lifespan.

While Nari Nari Naduma Murari may come as a pleasant surprise for audiences who missed it in theatres, its early OTT release sends a jolt through the theatrical ecosystem. It clearly highlights how rapidly evolving release strategies are reshaping viewing habits and challenging the traditional cinema-going experience.

Abishan Jeevinth Turns Actor with Youthful Romance With Love

Share

Young Kollywood filmmaker Abishan Jeevinth, who earned widespread appreciation for his debut Tourist Family—a critically acclaimed sleeper hit—has once again grabbed attention. This time, he steps in front of the camera as a lead actor with the coming-of-age romantic drama With Love. The film marks the directorial debut of Madhan, who previously worked as Abishan’s assistant.

Ahead of its theatrical release on February 6, the makers have unveiled the film’s trailer, which promises a relatable youthful romance blended with heartfelt emotions and breezy humour. With Love stars Abishan Jeevinth and Answara Ranjan in the lead roles.

The trailer largely focuses on building the central relationship, showing how two individuals come together for a shared purpose and gradually fall in love. Spanning nearly two and a half minutes, the glimpse takes audiences on a vibrant, youthful journey as the lead pair embarks on a quirky trip to reconnect with their school-time crushes—hoping to finally express feelings they had long buried. Interestingly, this journey of rediscovery leads them to see each other in a new light.

As the story progresses, the narrative shifts towards the consequences of their growing bond, especially the emotional and familial complications that arise. The trailer balances warmth and humour through light-hearted moments and witty exchanges before transitioning into a more dramatic space filled with intense emotions involving all key characters.

Both Abishan Jeevinth and Answara Ranjan deliver sincere performances, effectively conveying the emotional beats of their characters. Sean Roldan’s music stands out as a major strength, elevating the mood and emotional depth of the narrative.

Director Madhan appears to have explored a fresh idea within a familiar framework. With school- and college-based love stories traditionally resonating well with younger audiences, With Love has the potential to strike a chord. If the film manages to offer a refreshing perspective with engaging storytelling, it could well emerge as another feel-good romantic success.

From Rajahmundry to the Big Screen: Vinay Ratnam’s Debut Journey

Share

In the latest episode of manatelugu Debutant Diaries, we interacted with young filmmaker Vinay Ratnam, the director of the upcoming film Sri Chidambaram Garu, which is set for a theatrical release on February 6.

Vinay’s love for cinema traces back to his childhood in Rajahmundry. Watching Chiranjeevi’s films in jam-packed theatres left a lasting impression on him and sparked a deep emotional connection with the big screen. Long before he seriously considered filmmaking as a career, those experiences planted the seed of passion for cinema.

After completing his 10th class, Vinay and his friends shot a small horror short film during a night out. Inspired by Ram Gopal Varma’s short film contests that were popular at the time, the group ventured into filmmaking purely out of curiosity and fun. Vinay openly admits the film wasn’t great, but the joy he felt while shooting and editing it was something new and unforgettable. That experience stayed with him and gradually shaped his aspirations.

Though he later moved to Punjab to pursue engineering at Lovely Professional University, cinema never left his thoughts. While his interest in computers and the desire to explore life beyond his hometown influenced his academic choices, his passion for films only grew stronger. Eventually, Vinay decided to follow his heart and began working on Sri Chidambaram Garu, backed by the unwavering support of his close friends.

The journey, however, was far from smooth. The film faced financial hurdles and stressful moments when resources were limited. During these challenging times, Vinay’s friends stepped up, handling multiple responsibilities on set and standing by him throughout the production. Their collective effort and teamwork played a crucial role in bringing the film to completion.

When asked about remuneration, Vinay shared that opportunity matters more than money at this stage of his career. For him, proving himself as a filmmaker through quality storytelling is the real reward.

Vinay strongly believes in emotion-driven narratives. He feels that films which touch the heart leave a lasting impact, and he hopes Sri Chidambaram Garu will connect with audiences on that emotional level.

From a cinema-loving youngster in Rajahmundry to a debut director gearing up for his first theatrical release, Vinay Ratnam’s journey is a testament to passion, perseverance, and unwavering belief in cinema.

Allu Arjun Favors Age-Appropriate Casting for His Big Films

Share

In recent times, casting a heroine in her early 20s opposite a hero nearing 40 has often invited heavy trolling on social media. This growing scrutiny has prompted many star heroes to rethink their casting choices, with several now preferring actresses closer to their own age. As a result, some senior actresses, even those considered past their conventional prime, continue to secure big films and lucrative paychecks.

Following this trend, Allu Arjun made a notable casting choice for his next film directed by Atlee, roping in Deepika Padukone, who is just three years younger than him. Having already worked with co-stars both her age and significantly older, Deepika is now reportedly being selective, choosing only high-profile, big-ticket projects — one of which is Allu Arjun’s film.

Industry buzz now suggests that Allu Arjun may be repeating the same casting strategy. For his upcoming project reportedly to be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Shraddha Kapoor, aged 38, is said to be under serious consideration for the female lead. Interestingly, Shraddha was earlier expected to feature in the “Kissik” song from Pushpa 2, but she opted out at the last moment.

With films headlined by a star like Allu Arjun offering massive reach and visibility, it’s a win-win situation, as these senior actresses gain renewed stardom while the films benefit from balanced and widely accepted casting choices.

Can Love Insurance Kompany Revive Krithi Shetty’s Career?

Share

After making a sensational debut with Uppena in Tollywood nearly six years ago, Krithi Shetty was widely tipped to become one of the most promising young actresses in the industry. However, despite her charming screen presence and popularity, her career did not progress as expected, with the lack of consistent box-office successes prompting her to explore opportunities beyond Telugu cinema.

That shift led her to Kollywood, where she signed multiple Tamil projects with renewed optimism. Her first Tamil release was expected to be Love Insurance Kompany, starring Pradeep Ranganathan and directed by Vignesh Shivan. However, due to repeated delays, the film’s release was pushed back. Meanwhile, her other Tamil outing, Karthi’s Va Vaathiyar, arrived in theatres on Sankranthi eve, but unfortunately ended up as a major box-office disappointment.

Now, all eyes are on Love Insurance Kompany, which is finally set to hit cinemas on February 14. Krithi Shetty is hoping the film will mark a turning point in her career, especially after a series of underwhelming outings. Fans are eager to see whether “Bebamma’s” luck can shine once again on the big screen.

At the same time, the 22-year-old actress is gearing up for her Bollywood debut, which is expected to be announced soon. With potential new projects on the horizon in Hindi cinema as well, the coming months could prove crucial in redefining Krithi Shetty’s career trajectory.

Komalee Prasad Makes Tamil Debut with Supernatural Thriller Mandavetti

Share

Actress Komalee Prasad has officially announced her Tamil film debut with Mandavetti, a female-led supernatural crime thriller that promises a gripping emotional and psychological narrative. Sharing the announcement with her fans, the actress expressed gratitude and excitement as she steps into a new cinematic space with a project she describes as both meaningful and performance-driven.

Produced by Tuskers Den Pictures and directed by Saranraj Senthilkumar, Mandavetti has gone on floors following a traditional pooja ceremony. The film is currently being shot in Usilampatti, in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district, where the team has begun principal photography.

The story places Komalee Prasad at the heart of an intense narrative that blends crime, mystery, and supernatural elements, all told from a strong female perspective. Mandavetti explores themes of loss, identity, and emotional survival, with the lead character demanding deep emotional range and physical commitment. The role is said to be layered and challenging, making it one of the most significant performances of Komalee’s career so far.

Director Saranraj Senthilkumar, who earlier made an impression with Vella Kuthira, brings a restrained and atmospheric storytelling style to the film. Rather than relying on loud visual spectacle, the director focuses on mood and psychological tension, with the supernatural aspects woven subtly into the narrative to mirror the protagonist’s inner turmoil and amplify the emotional impact.

The film also features a strong supporting cast including Thenappan, Gajaraj, and Amritha. The technical team comprises cinematographer Prakash, editor Kuna, music composer Deepak Venugopal, and stunt choreographer Gowtham, all aiming to deliver a visually rich and emotionally engaging cinematic experience.

For Komalee Prasad, Mandavetti marks an important milestone as she makes her Tamil debut with a content-driven project. Known for choosing roles rooted in realism and emotional depth, she has previously appeared in Telugu films such as Napoleon, Rowdy Boys, Sebastian P.C. 524, HIT: The Second Case, HIT: The Third Case, and Sasivadane. She has also earned recognition through digital projects including Loser (ZEE5), Modern Love Hyderabad (Amazon Prime Video), and Touch Me Not (JioHotstar).

With Mandavetti, Komalee Prasad continues her journey of embracing meaningful and challenging roles, further strengthening her reputation as a performance-oriented actor. As filming progresses, the project is already generating curiosity for its unique genre blend and strong female-led narrative, with more updates expected in the coming months.
