US Embassy Warning Deepens H-1B Visa Anxiety for Indians

Share

As thousands of Indian professionals remain caught in prolonged visa uncertainty, a warning issued by the US Embassy in India on Tuesday has added to growing anxiety and frustration around delayed H-1B and H-4 visa processing. While the message did not announce any new policy change, its timing—amid stalled interviews and mounting disruptions—has sparked anger and unease, particularly on social media.

In a post on X, the US Embassy reiterated the Trump administration’s hardline stance on immigration, stating, “If you break U.S. law, you will be punished with significant criminal penalties. The Trump Administration is committed to ending illegal immigration to the United States and protecting our nation’s borders and our citizens.” Though the statement reflected a long-standing position, many Indian visa holders interpreted it as insensitive given the current backlog and uncertainty faced by legal applicants.

The warning comes as thousands of Indians remain stranded in India after US authorities deferred pre-scheduled visa interviews, preventing professionals from returning to their jobs and families in the United States. Applicants have reported receiving emails postponing interviews originally set for mid-month to dates as far away as May next year, triggering financial, professional, and personal distress.

Under Donald Trump, the US administration has intensified scrutiny of both legal and illegal immigration pathways. Employment-based visas, particularly the H-1B programme—widely used by Indian professionals in technology, healthcare, and engineering—have faced tighter checks, increased documentation requirements, and prolonged vetting.

Trump has repeatedly argued that alleged misuse of the H-1B programme poses a national security risk. In line with this stance, he introduced a proclamation imposing a steep $100,000 fee on new H-1B visas, a move that has alarmed Indian workers and US employers alike. At the same time, Trump has also acknowledged America’s dependence on global talent, citing domestic skill shortages in key sectors, leading to mixed signals on immigration policy.

India has formally raised concerns with Washington over the recent disruptions. New Delhi confirmed that it has flagged the sudden cancellation of pre-scheduled H-1B visa interviews for a large number of Indian applicants and said discussions are ongoing to resolve issues linked to enhanced vetting procedures, according to PTI.

The delays are reportedly linked to increased scrutiny of applicants’ social media activity and online presence, part of broader security checks introduced by US authorities. However, the lack of clarity and communication around timelines has intensified frustration among affected professionals.

The H-1B visa remains a cornerstone of the US employment-based immigration system, enabling American companies to hire skilled foreign professionals for specialised roles. While the Trump administration maintains that stricter rules and higher costs will deter misuse and protect US workers, industry leaders warn that prolonged uncertainty could drive highly skilled talent away from the United States, ultimately harming the country’s global competitiveness.

US Chamber Appeals $100K H-1B Visa Fee Ruling

Share

The legal battle over the future of the H-1B visa programme has intensified, with the US Chamber of Commerce formally appealing a court ruling that upheld the Trump administration’s controversial $100,000 fee on H-1B visa applications, according to Bloomberg.

The Chamber filed a notice of appeal on Monday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, challenging a December 23 ruling by US District Judge Beryl Howell. The judge held that former President Donald Trump acted lawfully when he sharply increased the cost of the widely used work visa through a presidential proclamation issued in September.

The appeal adds momentum to a growing legal showdown in Washington. Trump’s fee hike is already being challenged in separate lawsuits—one in Massachusetts led by more than a dozen Democratic-led states, and another in California filed by a global nurse-staffing agency alongside multiple labor unions. Legal experts widely expect the dispute to ultimately reach the US Supreme Court.

The H-1B visa programme is a cornerstone of employment-based immigration, enabling US companies—particularly in technology, healthcare, and engineering—to hire college-educated foreign professionals for specialised roles. Trump has defended the steep fee increase as a measure to curb alleged abuse of the programme and prevent displacement of American workers.

Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick have also claimed the higher fee could generate a massive windfall for the US Treasury, potentially exceeding $100 billion. However, immigration attorneys and industry leaders warn that such a dramatic increase would severely disrupt hiring, raise operational costs, and negatively impact the broader US economy.

In its October lawsuit, the Chamber argued that the fee is unlawful, asserting that it overrides federal immigration law and exceeds the authority granted to the executive branch by Congress. Judge Howell rejected that argument, ruling that Trump acted under an “express statutory grant of authority to the President.”

The ruling has significantly weakened the Chamber’s position on appeal. Bloomberg Intelligence Litigation Analyst Matthew Schettenhelm noted that the business group faces an uphill battle, observing that if Judge Howell—an Obama appointee known for tough scrutiny of the Trump administration—found no legal flaws, higher courts are unlikely to rule differently.

The case is titled Chamber of Commerce v. US Department of Homeland Security (25-cv-03675), US District Court for the District of Columbia.

Adivi Sesh to Go Shirtless in Action-Packed ‘Dacoit’

Share

For any hero, appearing shirtless on screen is never an easy decision. It demands the right physique and, more importantly, a moment that feels organic to the story rather than forced. When these elements align, such scenes often leave a lasting impact.

Several top stars have successfully pulled off such moments in the past—and now, it seems to be Adivi Sesh’s turn.

Sesh has been working on Dacoit for the past two years, a film described as a violent love story. The recently released teaser is packed with intense action, leaving audiences curious about how the romantic angle fits in. Many wondered whether the film leans more toward action than romance.

Sources reveal that Dacoit presents a different kind of love story, with Sesh’s character being heavily action-oriented. As part of this, he is reportedly set to appear shirtless in one or two sequences. Known for his disciplined fitness and soldier-like physique, Sesh seems fully prepared, making the transformation feel natural rather than gimmicky.

Mrinal Thakur plays the female lead, and true to Adivi Sesh’s cinematic style, the film promises romantic moments and intense emotional drama. Produced by Annapurna Studios and Asian Cinemas, Dacoit is gearing up for a theatrical release in March. With its mix of action, romance, and a fresh avatar of Sesh, expectations around the film are steadily building.

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja is all set for the release of Bhartha Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi, directed by Kishore Tirumala. Touted as a complete family entertainer, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on January 13, 2026.

Even before this release, Ravi Teja has already moved on to his next venture with director Siva Nirvana. The shoot for this project is currently underway, with Mythri Movie Makers producing the film.

Despite a few recent box-office setbacks, leading production houses continue to show interest in working with Ravi Teja. A major reason is his flexible approach—he prefers profit-sharing or partnership models over hefty upfront fees. This strategy eases the financial load on producers, making collaborations with him more feasible.

This approach is also reportedly why People Media Factory is keen on teaming up with Ravi Teja once again, despite their earlier collaborations, Eagle and Mr. Bachchan, not performing well at the box office.

Bhogapuram Airport Set for Final Test Run on January 4

Share

The proposed Bhogapuram International Airport is poised to become a major catalyst for the economic development of the North Andhra region. Recognizing its strategic importance, the NDA coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, with active support from the Central government, has been making relentless efforts to ensure that the airport becomes operational by 2026.

With TDP MP and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu at the helm of the Civil Aviation Ministry, the pace of work at Bhogapuram has gathered significant momentum over the past 18 months. Since assuming office, the minister has accorded top priority to the project, conducting frequent progress reviews and announcing well in advance that the airport would be inaugurated by June 2026.

Marking a crucial milestone, the final test run of Bhogapuram International Airport is scheduled for January 4. As part of the trial operations, an Air India flight from Delhi will land at the new airport at 11:00 AM. Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, along with senior officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will be onboard the flight to assess the airport’s operational preparedness ahead of the deadline

Currently, nearly 95 percent of the project work has been completed. The remaining activities are expected to be wrapped up over the next few months, paving the way for regular commercial operations to begin in August, following the official launch in June. In preparation for full-scale operations, the Civil Aviation Ministry and the DGCA are also likely to hold consultations with airline operators that will be flying from the airport.

Once Bhogapuram International Airport becomes operational, it will stand as a significant achievement for both Ram Mohan Naidu and the Andhra Pradesh government, as the ambitious project would have been realized within just two years of the NDA coalition coming to power.

Adding to the region’s aviation ecosystem, Ram Mohan Naidu recently announced that the Centre, in coordination with the Andhra Pradesh government, has decided to establish an Aviation University near the international airport within the next six months.

Chandrababu Naidu Heads Abroad on Private Family Vacation

Share

It is widely acknowledged that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is one of the toughest taskmasters in Indian politics. Politicians and senior bureaucrats who have worked closely with him often state that he puts in nearly 18 to 20 hours of work every day. Given such a demanding schedule, Chandrababu rarely gets the opportunity to spend quality time with his family, let alone go on vacations.

However, in a refreshing change, Chandrababu has been consciously making time for his family in recent months. In the latest development, the Chief Minister is set to fly abroad tonight for a private family vacation. He will be accompanied by his wife, son and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, daughter-in-law Brahmani, and grandson Devansh.

It has been clearly established that this is a completely personal trip, with no government funds being used, as the family is bearing all expenses privately. The vacation will last for five days, with the Nara family scheduled to return to Andhra Pradesh on January 4.

The family will be celebrating the New Year abroad and is said to be quite excited about the break. Following this short vacation, Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh will proceed on an official visit to Davos, Switzerland, to attend the Global Investment Summit.
