As the Kapu community across Andhra Pradesh observed the death anniversary of popular leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga on Friday, fresh political speculation emerged over the possible entry of his daughter, Vangaveeti Asha Kiran, into the YSR Congress Party.

The immediate trigger for these discussions was a social media post by YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, in which he paid rich tributes to Ranga. In his message, Jagan described Ranga as a “great leader who treated the problems of the poor as his own and stood firmly as their voice,” and conveyed his respects on the occasion of the death anniversary.

While Jagan has routinely paid tributes to Ranga on his birth and death anniversaries in the past, this year’s message attracted special attention in political circles. This is largely due to renewed buzz around Asha Kiran’s growing public presence, especially after Ranga’s son, Vangaveeti Radha Krishna, distanced himself from active political association with the YSRCP.

Over the past few weeks, Asha Kiran has been seen taking a more active role in public engagements. Although she has consistently stated that she has no plans to join any political party, sources suggest that behind-the-scenes efforts are underway for her possible political entry, with YSRCP being seen as a likely option. Addressing concerns about family unity, Asha Kiran stated that her recent activities were not intended to divide the family or weaken anyone. “I will work towards strengthening the Radha–Ranga Mitra Mandali. Ranga’s life continues to inspire society, and I will work to uphold his ideals,” she said.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has signaled strong confidence in Nike by purchasing nearly $3 million worth of the company’s shares, according to a regulatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission reported by Reuters. AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that India’s mythological heroes are far superior to popular Hollywood superheroes and stressed that it is society’s responsibility to pass this rich knowledge on to children.

Speaking at the Bharatiya Vignana Sammelan, organised by the Andhra Pradesh government at the Cultural University in Tirupati, Chandrababu Naidu said characters such as Hanuman, Arjuna, Lord Rama, Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva embody unmatched strength, values and wisdom. He emphasised that children should be taught how Hanuman’s power surpasses that of Superman, how Arjuna stands as a greater warrior than modern fictional heroes, and how Lord Rama continues to be the world’s highest symbol of righteousness.

The Chief Minister noted that Indian epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata offer far deeper life lessons than fantasy films. Through their powerful characters and stories, these epics help children clearly understand the difference between good and evil. He also recalled how legendary actor NTR rekindled public interest in mythology through cinema and effectively used films as a medium to spread moral and cultural values across society.

Chandrababu Naidu further spoke about yoga, describing it as one of India’s greatest gifts to the world for achieving mental balance and overall health. He highlighted the state government’s strong focus on renewable energy and revealed that a quantum computer would soon begin operations from Amaravati. In a major update for prospective caregivers, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced on December 19, 2025, that it has suspended the intake of new applications under its Caregiver Pilot Program until further notice. Crucially, the department confirmed that the program will not reopen in March 2026, ending speculation that the coming year would offer renewed access to this permanent residence pathway.

The decision forms part of Canada’s broader immigration recalibration under the 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan, aimed at controlling application volumes, reducing processing backlogs, and aligning admissions more closely with national labour market priorities. While IRCC reaffirmed the critical role played by caregivers in supporting seniors, children, and people with disabilities, it stated that the number of applications already in the system is sufficient to meet near-term immigration targets.

The pause applies to both permanent residence pathways under the caregiver pilots:

Each class includes Stream A, for applicants with eligible Canadian work experience, and Stream B, intended for those without Canadian experience. IRCC noted that Stream B has never been opened.

IRCC clarified that applications already submitted will continue to be processed, but no new applications will be accepted, and no timeline has been provided for when intake might resume. According to the department, the pause is intended to bring intake back to sustainable levels and improve overall processing efficiency.

Introduced to modernise caregiver immigration, the pilot programs replaced older pathways that required caregivers to work temporarily before qualifying for permanent residence. Under the pilots, eligible caregivers could apply directly for permanent residence, subject to meeting job offer, language, education, and experience requirements. However, strict annual caps of 2,750 applications per class quickly proved insufficient, as demand consistently exceeded available spaces.

With Canada’s ageing population increasing reliance on home care services and domestic recruitment challenges persisting, demand for caregiver immigration has remained high. The current pause signals a shift from expansion to consolidation, with future caregiver intake expected to be more tightly managed within Canada’s overall permanent resident targets.

IRCC acknowledged that the suspension will be disappointing for many prospective applicants but maintained that it is necessary to stabilise the system and ensure timely decisions for those already waiting. At present, no alternative federal caregiver pathway has been announced.

Despite massive pre-release hype and the combined star power of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, YRF’s spy thriller War 2 failed to meet expectations at the box office. The film was released in the Telugu states with great prestige by producer-distributor Naga Vamsi, who had even gone on record stating that if the film failed to become a blockbuster, he would stop urging Telugu audiences to watch his future releases.

Unfortunately, War 2 turned out to be a major disappointment in the Telugu market. The collections fell well short of what is typically expected from a Jr NTR starrer, leading to underwhelming theatrical performance across the region.

Addressing the issue, Naga Vamsi revealed that the Telugu theatrical rights of War 2 were acquired for ₹68 crore, excluding GST. Notably, Yash Raj Films bore the GST amount themselves prior to the film’s release. However, with the film generating only around ₹35–40 crore in distributor share, the losses became evident.

In a significant move, YRF reportedly voluntarily refunded ₹18 crore to Naga Vamsi, as per his statement. Based on these figures, the net loss for YRF is estimated to be in the ₹10–15 crore range, contrary to widespread social media claims suggesting losses of ₹30–40 crore.

Industry observers note that had YRF not stepped in with the refund, Naga Vamsi would have incurred losses of ₹20–25 crore, including publicity and promotional expenses. Such scenarios, unfortunately, are not uncommon in the Telugu film distribution space when high-profile films fail to perform as expected.
