Tuck Jagadish – Super Energetic, Maestro – Super Dull

Share

The promotions for Nani’s upcoming outing Tuck Jagadish are in full swing now. The makers are aggressively promoting the film and Amazon Prime Video is organizing several promotional campaigns to publicize the arrival of Tuck Jagadish on their platform. The film is gearing up for its Amazon Prime premieres on the 10th of September and it has garnered a whole lot of buzz already, thanks to the promotions. With under a week left for the release date, we cane expect the makers of the Nani starrer to further intensify the promotions in a bid to boost the anticipation surrounding the film even more.

On the other hand, Nithiin’s Maestro has taken a very passive stand in regard to the promotions. Neither the makers nor Disney+ Hotstar have taken the initiative to promote the arrival of the film. Many Telugu OTT audience don’t even know that Maestro is arriving on Disney+ Hotstar on the 17th of this month, such is the sad state of affairs pertaining to Maestro’s OTT release. Barring an occasional song or a teaser release, the makers haven’t promoted the film in any which way.

Interestingly enough, Nani, who was reluctant about OTT release for Tuck Jagadish is actively promoting the film now after understanding the plight of his producers. Meanwhile, Nithiin who had clearly favored OTT release for the film right from the start is taking no interest in promoting the film as it is arriving on OTT.

“I am the biggest fan of theatres and Tuck Jagadish is a quintessential Telugu film which we would’ve loved watching in a theatre with a full house and it was always meant to be experienced on the big screen for a festival. I am quite torn between the pressures the producers are facing in these uncertain times with big stakes at risk. With the unpredictable conditions here and abroad and the unfortunate restrictions on theatres in Andhra, it has become a conflict in many ways. I have the utmost respect for the producers and I believe any call regarding the film they make, should be theirs. So here I am, at crossroads for the second time! Leaving the decision about Tuck Jagadish to SHINE SCREENS. No matter what, I will do my 100 percent till it reaches all of you in whatever way,” Nani wrote about Tuck Jagadish’s OTT release a while back. But that isn’t stopping him from actively promoting the film.

Did Butchiah Chowdary Give An Earful To Chandrababu?

Share

Does Chandrababu not know who to believe and who not to believe in his own party? Is he suspicious about the loyalties of his own team? Has Chandrababu himself admitted to this? Yes. If six-time TDP MLA and senior leader Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary is true, Chandrababu himself told him that he does not know who to believe in the party.

Butchaiah says that he had put a straightforward question to Chandrababu Naidu as to how many of his ‘trusted’ loyalists were with him now. To this, Chandrababu reportedly admitted that many of whom he trusted were now proved to be turncoats. He then said that he does not know who to believe and who not to in the party. Butchaiah claims that he has put forward several uncomfortable questions to Chandrababu and the latter had admitted that the situation in the party needed a lot of correction.

If what Butchaiah says is true, then the TDP is surely facing the worst existential crisis and is not sure who will stay with him and who will desert him. Butchaiah reportedly told Chandrababu to encourage the loyalists and not opportunists. He reportedly told Chandrababu to ensure that the loyalists are rewarded. He said his fight was not just for Rajahmundry and was about the party across the state.

Soon after meeting Chandrababu Naidu, Butchaiah Chowdary addressed the mediapersons. During the press meet, he asked the reporters if what he said was true. He said that everyone knows that what he has said was true and that the people at large know that the loyalists were being ignored and the opportunists were being given pride of place in the TDP.

Amazon planning to launch Alexa-powered TV in October

Share

Washington: American tech giant Amazon may release Amazon-branded TVs as soon as October. The company has previously launched smart displays, smart speakers and Fire TV sticks.

As per The Verge, Amazon will release Amazon-branded TVs in the US. The TVs will have Alexa, screen sizes in the range of 55 to 75 inches, and will be designed and manufactured by third parties such as TCL.

The company is also developing a TV designed in-house, but it’s unclear when that might be released.

Amazon is not entirely new to the TV market. The company offers AmazonBasics branded TVs in India. It has also partnered with BestBuy to sell Toshiba and Insignia TVs that run Amazon’s Fire TV software. Amazon also sells Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube, which you can hook up to your TV.

But this rumoured new Amazon-branded TV could indicate that the company is stepping up its television efforts to take on TV stalwarts like LG and Samsung more directly.

Who could replace Yoshihide Suga as Japan’s Prime Minister? A look at some potential candidates

Share

Japan’s vaccine tsar and a low-key moderate are among the possible replacements for Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who said Friday he will not run in his ruling party’s leadership vote.

Only one Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) member has so far announced their candidacy for September 29 vote, with the winner obliged to call a general election by late October.

Here, AFP profiles some potential candidates:

– Fumio Kishida, dovish ex-minister –

Fumio Kishida, 64, is the only declared candidate and has already pledged to spend big if elected, promising a new stimulus package to counter the effects of the pandemic on the world’s third-largest economy.

The soft-spoken politician is seen as “moderate and capable”, making him a top pick for the premiership, according to Tomoaki Iwai, a politics professor at Nihon University.

Although the ex-foreign minister is head of an LDP faction known for its dovish stance, his low-key presence and alleged lack of charisma could hamper his chances.

Elected from Hiroshima, Kishida worked to invite then-US president Barack Obama for a historic 2016 visit to the city which was devastated by an atomic bomb.

He also helped cement a deal between Japan and South Korea that was meant to end a long-running dispute over the use of sex slaves during Japan’s occupation.

– Taro Kono, vaccine tsar –

Former defence minister Taro Kono has overseen Japan’s vaccine rollout, which began slowly but has picked up speed, with just under half the population now fully inoculated.

The 58-year-old was once considered an ambitious and independent-minded political reformer, but has toned down his rhetoric in recent years.

Currently minister for administrative affairs, Kono — a fluent English speaker and keen Twitter user — served as foreign minister between 2017-19.

He travelled extensively as Japan’s top diplomat, but also oversaw the deterioration of ties with South Korea over unresolved wartime disputes.

In recent years, he has largely avoided discussing his passionate opposition to nuclear power, given the government’s official support.

– Shigeru Ishiba, popular military geek –

Former defence minister Shigeru Ishiba, 64, is considered a military geek but is also a self-confessed fan of 1970s pop music.

The former banker is the scion of a political family and is seen as popular with the public, and a strong orator with significant experience.

Seen as a hawk who wants to strengthen the role of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces in the pacifist constitution, Ishiba has even mused about whether the country should reconsider its policy forbidding nuclear weapons on its soil.

He has served in several cabinet posts, but he may struggle to win votes from his fellow ruling party lawmakers, partly because he once left the LDP.

In June, Ishiba courted controversy when he said the work of a far-right, Covid-denier cartoonist could be useful for the government’s virus response.

– Sanae Takaichi, divisive hawk –

Sanae Takaichi, one of Japan’s few prominent female politicians, is seen as a hard-right nationalist and has been forced to apologise for several gaffes over the years.

She is a regular visitor to Tokyo’s controversial Yasukuni shrine, which honours war dead including war criminals, enraging South Korea and China.

A divisive figure within the party, the 60-year-old most recently served as minister for communications and internal affairs, vowing to tackle cyberbullying after the death of a reality star.

During a previous stint as interior minister, she threatened to cut off TV news stations over perceived unfriendly coverage.

– Hakubun Shimomura, ex-education minister –

LDP policy chief Hakubun Shimomura had said he wouldn’t challenge Suga after the prime minister reportedly asked him to leave his powerful party post if decided to run.

But with Suga no longer in the picture, the 67-year-old former education minister could throw his hat in the ring.

Shimomura has worked to plan Japan’s Covid-19 countermeasures, with large swathes of the country under a virus state of emergency for most of this year.

Having lost his own father when he was nine, he faced financial hardship growing up but won scholarships for his own education.

EAM Jaishankar calls on Slovenia PM; discusses bilateral ties, Indo-Pacific and Afghanistan

Share

LJUBLJANA: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday called on Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Jansa and held discussions on enhancing bilateral ties, and major global issues, including Europe’s challenges, the Indo-Pacific and the Afghanistan situation.

Jaishankar is in the central European nation as part of a four-day visit to Slovenia, Croatia and Denmark to enhance India-EU ties and for bilateral talks.

“Called on Prime Minister of Slovenia @JJansaSDS. Valued the discussion on enhancing our bilateral ties. Appreciated his insights and perspectives on major global issues including Europe’s challenges, Indo-Pacific and Afghanistan,” he said on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar also held a cordial meeting with President of the National Assembly of Slovenia Igor Zorcic and discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations and increasing parliamentary exchanges and people to people contacts.

On Thursday, he had a panel discussion with Slovenian counterpart Anze Logar at the Bled Strategic Forum (BSF) on the subject of ‘Partnership for a Rules-Based Order in the Indo-Pacific’ here.

There is a sharper awareness in Europe that what happens in the Indo-Pacific impinges directly on its interests, Jaishankar said.

India-EU relations have emerged stronger as the world battles a global pandemic and that issues of trust and transparency, reliable and resilient supply chains have created common ground, he added.

Slovenia currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union and has invited Jaishankar to attend the informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU states.

The crisis in Afghanistan was on the agenda of the closed-door ministerial discussions on Thursday.

The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan on August 15, two weeks before the US’ complete troop withdrawal on August 31 after a costly two-decade war.

This forced Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to flee the country to the UAE.

The Taliban insurgents stormed across Afghanistan and captured all major cities in a matter of days, as Afghan security forces trained and equipped by the US and its allies melted away.

Thousands of Afghan nationals and foreigners have fled the country to escape the new Taliban regime and to seek asylum in different nations, including the US and many European nations, resulting in total chaos and deaths.
