August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that August 14, a day before Independence Day of India, will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day across the country. This move is to remember the struggles and sacrifices of our people.
“Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced, and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,” PM Modi tweeted.
“May the #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment,” he added.
Partition remains a harsh and painful memory in the history of both India and Pakistan. Nearly 1 million people, even more, were killed in the ruthless violence that followed Partition. Pakistan observes its Independence Day on August 14.

The most awaited show on Telugu Television, Evaru Meelo Koteeswarulu, is all set to premiere on August 22 (Sunday).
The organisers of the show have finally made it official that Evaru Meelo Koteeswarulu’s curtain-raiser will be on 22nd August at 8:30 pm. The show will be aired on Gemini TV from Monday to Thursday at 8:30 pm from August 23 onwards.
The upcoming season which marks the TV comeback of Jr NTR is likely to have a runtime of 60 minutes. Ram Charan might be the first celebrity guest in the show that is returning to TV screens with a brand new season.
EMK is the second time Jr NTR will be seen on the host’s chair. Earlier, he awed the audience when he hosted Bigg Boss Telugu Season 1.

Chiranjeevi to shuttle between Acharya and Chiru153

KCR and Governor: All’s not well?
It seems as though not all is well between Telangana Chief Minister KCR and governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. This is being said because the governor hasn’t yet given her approval to the nomination of Padi Kaushik Reddy as the MLC under the Governor’s quota.
The cabinet came to this agreement and passed the request to Tamilisai on August 1st, for her approval, but the governor hasn’t yet replied to this request even now, 12 days later. This is said to be causing friction between the governor and the CM. Reddy had defected from the Congress to the TRS just recently, in the third week of July, and was nominated to the MLC post within ten days of joining TRS. While this is not something that the governor can oppose, as the nomination has the cabinet’s approval, everyone is wondering what the reason could be.
KCR was close to former governor ESL Narasimhan and even used to regularly visit him in the Raj Bhavan, almost every week. This is not the case with Tamilisai though, with the CM visiting her only if highly necessary.
Mahesh Babu in action mode in Goa for Sarkaru Vaari Paata
Superstar Mahesh Babu is currently busy with Sakaru Vaari Paata, which is billed to be a full-on mass masala action thriller. The Parasuram directorial is up for release next Sankranthi season.

Instagram announces new features to protect users from online abuse
Washington: Popular photo and video sharing service Instagram has announced a new set of features, particularly for celebrities and high-profile creators, which will ensure that users are protected from abuse on the platform.
According to Mashable, these features include the ability for people to limit comments and DM (direct message) requests during spikes of increased attention and stronger warnings while posting potentially offensive comments.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, in a blog post, said, “We don’t allow hate speech or bullying on Instagram, and we remove it whenever we find it. We also want to protect people from having to experience this abuse in the first place, which is why we’re constantly listening to feedback from experts and our community, and developing new features to give people more control over their experience on Instagram, and help protect them from abuse.”
The new Limits feature of the Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform once turned on, will automatically hide comments and DM requests from people who don’t follow the user or who only recently followed them.
Stronger warnings will be shown by Instagram on the first instance when a user tries to post potentially offensive comments. The platform already throws up a warning when someone tries to post a potentially offensive comment.
Hence, if the platform realises that a user is trying to post potentially offensive comments multiple times, it shows an even stronger warning – reminding them of its Community Guidelines and warning them that it may remove or hide their comment if they proceed.
As per Mashable, in a bid to combat abuse in DMs and comments, the company has also announced a global rollout of its Hidden Words feature, which allows people to automatically filter offensive words, phrases and emojis into a Hidden Folder.
It also filters DM requests that are likely to be spammy or low-quality.
