The members of the YSRCP often propagate widely and proudly that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy always keeps his word, and makes sure that whatever he says is done by when he promises to get it done. When he first became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan promised that the construction of the Polavaram project would be completed by June 2021. The intensity with which he said it is still fresh in the minds of people, so much so that the video is currently trending on social media platforms.
Jagan’s body language while promising to get Polavaram done by June 2021 is so fierce that it indirectly asks people to question him if he fails to live up to his words. That was the conviction he had in his tone. June 2021 has now come, and the construction of the Polavaram project hasn’t advanced by even 2% in the last two years.
The state government changed the contractor in the name of saving thousands of crores through reverse tendering. The state government is also in a helpless position right now, given the kind of decisions the Centre took on Polavaram. With that, the government is neither able to ask for money nor is able to complete the project. Given that Polavaram is considered to be the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh, one would expect the state government to behave towards it with much more integrity.
With netizens trolling Jagan and YSRCP on social media, over the CM not being able to complete the construction of Polavaram, it is to be seen how the party will tackle the public.
Crazy hero Vijay Devarakonda has topped the list of Hyderabad Times Most Desirable Man for three times in a row and has set the bar very high for himself. The youngster claims that he wants to create a record by making it to the top for another couple of years. He gave an interview to the Times Group and revealed some interesting snippets about his regular life during the lockdown.
Vijay says that he worked out every day starting from the moment Narendra Modi announced ‘Janatha Curfew’ in order to stay fit and ready for ‘Liger’. He apparently likes Mangoes and is enjoying them a lot right now. Talking about his hairstyle, Vijay made it clear that his hairstyle belongs to his films. He maintains them according to his director’s needs but it is his dressing sense that changes quite regularly.
Devarakonda claims that he likes people who are ambitious and passionate about living and whatever they do. He cleverly skipped the question about his relationship status and claimed that he doesn’t like giving zoom interviews. He finally asked people to stay safe and stay happy.
The ‘Arjun Reddy’ star looked cool and casual as always. He wore a normal outfit but covered his hair with a pink beanie but took it off in the middle of the interview. Seems like he is really enjoying the Most Desirable Man tag and states that it will be nice to flaunt it.

SHENZHEN: Embattled Chinese tech giant Huawei will launch a homegrown new mobile operating system on Wednesday as it fights for survival in the smartphone arena after the United States blocked it from using Android.
Huawei will unveil its first mobile devices loaded with the new HarmonyOS in an online event broadcast from its headquarters in the southern city of Shenzhen beginning at 8 pm (1200 GMT).
The development of HarmonyOS has been closely watched by the tech world since Donald Trump’s White House in 2018 began an aggressive campaign to short-circuit the global ambitions of Huawei, which Washington considers a potential Chinese espionage and cybersecurity threat.
Aside from the geopolitics, no company has successfully taken on the mobile OS duopoly now dominated by Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS systems, a battleground littered with the likes of flame-outs including Blackberry, Microsoft’s Windows Phone and the Amazon Fire device.
Analysts say Huawei likewise faces a tough battle to carve out a sizeable share of the OS pie.
The world’s largest supplier of telecom base station equipment and other networking gear, Huawei entered the handset business in 2003, using Android.
It became one of the world’s three leading mobile phone manufacturers along with Samsung and Apple – briefly occupying the number one spot last year – driven by Chinese demand and sales in emerging markets.
But the US sanctions, which include cutting the firm off from global component supply chains, have thrown its mobile phone segment into uncertainty.
Analysts say Huawei’s most immediate challenge is in apps — convincing enough developers to reprogramme their applications and other content to work with HarmonyOS so that consumers will continue to buy Huawei phones.
Uncharted waters
Being cut off from Android effectively prevents Huawei offering phone users popular features such as Google’s browser, its maps function and a range of other top apps available through the system.
Huawei’s access to the chips required to make a smartphone has also been curtailed, and its shipments have fallen dramatically in recent quarters.
Analysts say the apps conundrum should not be a problem in China.
Huawei has a huge slice of the domestic market and its own menu of apps that are largely designed for Chinese users.
But its global prospects may dim.
“On content, when you’re talking about the international market, you can’t live without Google, you can’t live without Amazon or YouTube. That will be challenging,” said Elinor Leung, head of Asia internet and telecom research at CLSA.
Huawei’s troubles have prompted a major business shake-up at the company, which was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, the former People’s Liberation Army engineer who still acts as CEO.
Since the US pressure ramped up, Huawei has moved quickly into new product lines seen as less vulnerable to US pressure and a re-focus on its core domestic market.
In an internal memo that surfaced last week, Ren outlined plans for an all-out push into computer software, saying “the US will have very little control over” Huawei in that sector.
Huawei had previously announced joining with Chinese automakers to develop intelligent vehicles and plans to move into enterprise and cloud computing.

Several times in the past, Rajya MP and YSRCP General Secretary Vijayasai Reddy’s comments had caused several problems to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Now, yet again, another set of statements by Vijayasai have turned out to be problematic for Jagan.
Recently, Vijayasai said that the government would soon move to Visakhapatnam and that the city would be established as the executive capital. He also said that the CM can rule the state from anywhere in the state, and this would be done by establishing the CM’s office in Visakhapatnam. To be honest, these statements were previously uttered by Jagan himself on many occasions. However, the situations now are very different. Days, months, and even years have passed, but nothing pertaining to the 3 Capital issue has come to a standstill.
There are several cases going on, on the 3 Captial issue, in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. As a result, the establishing of Visakhapatnam as the executive capital has been postponed several times, and even Jagan has stopped commenting anything on it. Moreover, if the YSRCP government really wanted to shift the executive capital to Visakhapatnam, they would have found a way to do so by now. All it needs is unrelenting willpower.
The YSRCP could simply go to Visakhapatnam and start operating from any building owned by any YSRCP member, by making it the CM’s office. No one would obstruct the setting up of the CM’s camp office in Visakhapatnam, so this is something that could have been done a long time ago. Given that this hasn’t been done till now, and there seem to be no intentions of doing so any time soon either. No matter how many capitals you might want to set up if you have the willpower to do so, anything can come true. It is now to be seen how Jagan will react to these comments.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday signed a defence agreement with Tajikistan under which it will sell domestically manufactured arms to the Central Asian country.
The agreement was part of several memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries during the visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to Pakistan.
Rahmon earlier arrived in Islamabad on a two-day visit and was received at the Prime Minister House where he was given a guard of honour.
Addressing a joint press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office with the Tajik president after their one-on-one meeting and a ceremony where various MOUs were signed, Prime Minister Imran Khan said, “It is very important to improve our defence ties.”
Khan said they “discussed and signed MOUs on how to meet Tajikistan’s requirement for the kind of weapons that Pakistan makes.”
He said the agreements signed between the two countries will strengthen relations in the areas of education, defence, culture and art.
Khan said peace in Afghanistan was imperative for better bilateral ties between Pakistan and Tajikistan.
Drawing a comparison to the situation in Afghanistan when Soviet forces left in 1989, he said, “Both countries fear a similar situation when the US forces leave the country and if a political settlement is not reached.”
It would have an adverse effect on both countries, Khan said, adding, “our trade would be affected along with our connectivity”.
“We also fear that terrorism would increase. We have both agreed to involve other countries as well for a peaceful political settlement in Afghanistan,” he said.
Tajikistan shares its borders with Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
Mentioning another challenge, the prime minister said both countries face the threat of climate change.
“The president told me that their glaciers, which are their main water source, have melted due to global warming. Pakistan faces a similar situation as 80 per cent of the water that goes into the rivers comes from the glaciers,” Khan said.
He said both the leaders have decided to effectively raise their voice globally and call to action on global warming and climate change.
The Tajik president said his country considered Pakistan as a reliable and trustworthy partner at the international stage.
“We have also highlighted the significant role of the Joint Intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.”
Rahmon said the two sides agreed to resume the business council as well as the joint working groups on energy and infrastructure as soon as the situation improves after Covid-19.
He also showed keenness in joining regional transport corridor projects, including access to Gwadar seaport.
Khan and Rahmon also signed a joint declaration on next steps in building strategic partnership for regional solidarity and integration.
TORONTO: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that residential schools for Canada’s Indigenous children were part of a larger colonial policy designed to erase language and culture and to assimilate those groups so they no longer existed as distinct peoples.
Trudeau on Tuesday said the discovery of 215 children found buried at a former Indigenous residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia, is part of a larger tragedy.
The institutions held children taken from families across the nation.
Chief Rosanne Casimir of the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation in British Columbia said the remains of 215 children were confirmed last month with the help of ground-penetrating radar.
“Children should never have been sent to those so-called schools – places where they were separated from their families and their communities, places where they faced terrible loneliness, places where they suffered unthinkable abuse,” Trudeau said in an emergency debate in Parliament.
“That is the fault of Canada.”
From the 19th century until the 1970s, more than 150,000 First Nations children were required to attend state-funded Christian schools as part of a program to assimilate them into Canadian society.
They were forced to convert to Christianity and not allowed to speak their native languages.
Many were beaten and verbally abused, and up to 6,000 are said to have died.
The Canadian government apologised in Parliament in 2008 and admitted that physical and sexual abuse in the schools was rampant.
Many students recalled being beaten for speaking their native languages.
They also lost touch with their parents and customs.
Indigenous leaders have cited that legacy of abuse and isolation as the root cause of epidemic rates of alcoholism and drug addiction on reservations.
Plans are underway to bring in forensics experts to identify and repatriate the remains of the children found buried on the Kamloops site.
Perry Bellegarde, chief of the Assembly of First Nations, said he spoke with Trudeau on Tuesday and urged him to work with First Nations to find all the unmarked graves of out stolen children” in Canada.
A National Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which was set up as part of a government apology and settlement over the schools, issued a report in 2015 and Bellegarde urged Trudeau to accelerate implementing its recommendations.
Trudeau has said he would implement them and said government has put in place the legislation to strengthen Indigenous languages and culture.
Murray Sinclair, the former chair of the reconciliation commission, said more sites will be found.
“We know there are lots of sites similar to Kamloops that are going to come to light in the future. We need to begin to prepare ourselves for that,” Sinclair said.
Sinclair said the stories about children who died in the schools during the commission’s work was shocking and said survivors talked about children being “buried in large numbers into mass burial sites.”
The reconciliation commission has records of at least 51 children dying at the school between 1915 and 1963.
It identified about 3,200 confirmed deaths at schools throughout Canada but noted the schools did not record the cause of death in almost half of them.
Some died of tuberculosis.
The commission said the practice was not to send the bodies of the students who died at the schools to their communities.
It also said the government wanted to keep costs down so adequate regulations were never established.
The Kamloops Indian Residential School was Canada’s largest such facility operated by the Roman Catholic Church between 1890 and 1969 before the federal government took it over as a day school until 1978, when it was closed.
“It was the most horrible pain in the world to be a native, to be an Indian back then,” said Clayton Peters, who spent seven years at the school.
Peters and his brothers were forcibly taken to the school in 1967.
He remembers thinking that kids who suddenly disappeared from there were lucky because they had managed to escape, saying his unsuccessful attempt to get away led to harsh consequences.
“I always thought they ran away like I did, that they made it, that they were free,” he said crying.
Now, he thinks some of the children he knew may be buried at the site.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor had targeted the union government over the vaccination drive. The Parliamentarian batted for the demand to vaccinate Indians for free of cost against the ongoing pandemic.
In a video posted on Twitter, Shashi Tharoor said, the anti-Covid vaccines should be made free to save the country from Covid.
Tharoor questioned, how can the government vaccinate the entire population of the country by the end of December, as the vaccines are not available. How can the government achieve this, he questioned.
“It is unacceptable that this government should be demanding that states, private hospitals and others compete in some sort of market free for all to buy vaccines at different prices, extortionate prices in some cases, when the central government has an arrangement to buy vaccines at affordable prices and give them to the public for free. That was the policy at the beginning of the vaccination drive, ” Shashi Tharoor said.
The MP was infected with the virus earlier in April and admitted to a private hospital in the national capital Delhi. He is suffering from Covid complications. He said, he made the video from the sickbed, as he doesn’t want the fellow citizens to suffer.
In the last 24 hours, India clocked as many as 1,32,788 new cases, taking the total caseload to 2,83,07,832. After 3,207 new deaths reported during the same period, the total death count rose to 3,35,102
