Janasena shocked YCP MLA Jogi Ramesh with an immense majority of votes!!

The comment made by YSR Congress MLA Jogi Ramesh during the panchayat election campaign in Neelipudi village in Kruthivennu zone under Pedana constituency has caused a stir. He had threatened the people that the welfare schemes from the government will not be applied if nominations are made against the ruling party.

There was a state-wide controversy over the matter. However, the threats of MLA Jogi Ramesh did not work in Neelipudi village. Janasena supporters won 10 out of 10 wards in the village. Also, the Janasena party-backed candidate won the sarpanch position. It seems like the people were expressing anger over MLA in this way. There are a total of 1,408 votes in Neelipudi village. It seems that over a thousand votes were cast for Janasena-backed candidate Pasham Krishna and 270 votes were cast for YCP supporters.

Back-To-Back Offers For This Big Family Hero!

Nandamuri family’s hero Tarak Ratna made his entry into films with ‘Okato Number Kurradu’. He signed a lot of films at the initial stages of his career and had a lot of hype surrounding him. But continuous failures damaged his career prospects.

Moving away from the regular commercial genre, he tried his luck as a villain in Ravibabu’s ‘Amaravathi’. He was given a Nandhi award for his performance but it didn’t boost his career. He even acted in devotional films and was even on the lookout for character roles.

Rumours suggest that Tarak has a couple of interesting films in his hand. He was last seen in ‘Khayyum Bhai’ which released three years back. He is currently coming up with ‘Devineni’ and he is also working on a film titled ‘Saradhi’.

Apparently, this film runs on the backdrop of ‘Co co’ and it is directed by Jaakata Ramesh. Konda Sasitha is the heroine in this film and Tarak is reportedly very confident on the output. The title poster and lyrical song was released by the makers and looks like Tarak is getting decent offers despite his bad track record.

Will stop all benefits if you don’t vote for me, says YSRCP leader

Share

Time was when the politicians used to go from house to house to beg for votes. The politicians would do everything to win over the voters. Some would even do the weirdest possible things to seek votes. Butt, times are a changing. Now the politicians no longer beg for votes. The in fact demand votes. What more? They even threaten the voters.

In Etcherla mandal of Srikakulam district, local YSRCP leader Chiranjeevi crossed all limits when he threatened the voters of dire consequences if they did not vote for his party. He told them that he knew how to deal with such people.”I shall get the names of such people removed from the list of beneficiaries. I have already got 40 names removed from Fareedpet,” he told the people present at a meeting in his village. “Even if the opposition wins, I will ensure that he loses the cheque power (the right to sign on the cheques) within two months.

He did not however realise the fact that his fulminations were being recorded on a mobile phone. The clip soon went viral and has become the talk of the town. His threat to teach a lesson after February 21 to all those who did not vote has also become the talk of the town. Interestingly, the politician is still brazen and is claiming that he would do what he has said he would do.

Is anyone in the top echelons of the YSRCP listening?

French court sentences four over 2009 Madonna stage collapse

Share

A French court on Wednesday handed suspended prison sentences to four people charged over the collapse of a stage as it was being set up for a 2009 concert by pop superstar Madonna, which killed two workers.

A judge in the southern city of Marseille, where the concert was to take place, convicted the four of involuntary manslaughter and injuries, while acquitting three others ordered to stand trial.

Eight other workers sustained injuries in the accident, which occurred when one of four cranes putting up metal scaffolding for the stage knocked into the structure’s roof on July 16, 2009 — three days before the show.

A 10-year investigation determined the cause was the misplacement of a cable sling being used by the crane to hoist up a roof corner — a last-minute decision after the failure of two winches normally used for such a job.

Just as the piece was inches from being installed, the sling was sheared after getting caught on a scaffolding tube, prompting the entire structure to collapse.

Charles Criscenzo, 52, of France and Charles Prow, a 23-year-old Briton, were killed at Marseille’s Velodrome stadium, and one of the injured workers committed suicide two years later.

“The operations of these companies revealed a pursuit of profitability over safety,” presiding judge Marie-Pierre Attali told the court.

“If everything had been carried out in accordance with the law, this accident would not have happened, and in any event nobody would have been injured.”

Madonna herself did not appear at the trial, saying she was not involved in the technical details and denying any pressure to build the stage more quickly. She did present her condolences to the victims’ families.

“I feel relieved, liberated,” said Julien Pascal, who was suspended from the structure by a rope harness when the accident occurred.

“I just hope this makes concert promoters think about us more — too often they still consider us just pawns,” he told AFP after the ruling.

Jacqueline Bitton, 73, at the time head of the French operations for the US concert promoter Live Nation, received the most severe sentence, a suspended two-year prison term and a fine of 20,000 euros ($24,000).

Tim Norman, 65, head of the British firm Edwin Shirley Group (ESG) that owned the stage, received a suspended two-year term as well as a 15,000 euro fine.

A manager at a French subcontractor hired by ESG, Tour Concept France, was given a suspended 18-month sentence and a 10,000 euro fine, while a British foreman hired for the job by ESG got 18 months suspended.

Live Nation France was ordered to pay a 150,000 euro fine, and Tour Concept 50,000 euros.

Bitton’s lawyer Eric Morain said he would appeal over what he called “judicial errors,” denouncing a conviction that includes a prohibition on her working for two years.

Morain said the result would be “social death,” since Bitton is supposed to organise a coming French concert by Canadian star Celine Dion.

‘Islamo-leftism’ is eating away at our society, says French minister

Share

PARIS: The French minister for higher education has sparked a backlash from university heads after warning about the spread of “Islamo-leftism” in the country’s academic institutions.

The term “Islamo-leftism” is usually used in France by far-right politicians to discredit left-wing opponents they accuse of being blind to the dangers of Islamist extremism and overly worried about racism and identity.

“I think that Islamo-leftism is eating away at our society as a whole, and universities are not immune and are part of our society,” Minister for Higher Education Frederique Vidal told the C-News channel on Sunday.

The comments came amid a highly divisive debate in France about what President Emmanuel Macron has termed “Islamist separatism,” in which Islamists are said to be flouting French laws and fuelling terror attacks in closed-off Muslim communities.

The lower house of parliament approved a tough draft law on Tuesday that will extend the state’s powers to shut down religious groups judged to be extremist.

Macron has recently been accused by critics of pandering to the far right ahead of presidential elections next year, which polls show could be a re-run of his 2017 duel with anti-immigration National Rally leader Marine Le Pen.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin caused unease inside the governing centrist party last Thursday afer accusing Le Pen of “softness” on Islam during a televised debate.

In response to Vidal’s comments, the Conference of University Presidents (CPU) issued a statement on Tuesday expressing “its shock at another sterile controversy over the issue of ‘Islamo-leftism’ at university.”

Last October, Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer had also warned that “Islamo-leftism” was “wreaking havoc” in French academia.

The CPU group, which represents the heads of French universities, condemned the use of the ill-defined label which it said should be left to the far right “which popularised it.”

– Focus on race –
Vidal also announced that she would order an investigation into the problem of researchers “looking at everything through the prism of wanting to fracture and divide”, which she said included those focused on colonialism and race.

The issue was one of the top trending topics on Twitter on Tuesday, with many professors and researchers outraged at the prospect of an investigation that could restrict academic freedom.

Asked to comment further in parliament on Tuesday, Vidal said the investigation would determine “what is academic research and what is activism and opinion.”

Movements against racism over the last year such as Black Lives Matter, which resonated in France after arriving from the US, have led to fears that the country is importing American racial and identity politics sometimes derided as “woke culture”.

A new generation of younger French activists are also increasingly vocal about the problem of racism in France and the legacy of the country’s colonial past in Africa and the Middle East.

Both Macron and Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer have spoken out about the danger of focusing on race and discrimination, which they see as creating divisions between communities and undermining France’s founding ideal of a united society.

Mame-Fatou Niang, a black academic who studies race and identity in France, condemned Vidal’s proposed investigation which she said would put those studying colonialism and racism under unfair scrutiny.

Writing on Twitter, she said that “minority researchers have been regarded as activists through the ages.”

Vidal’s announcement was well received by right-wing politicians who share her concerns, however.

Several MPs from the right-wing Republicans party demanded a parliamentary investigation last November into what they termed “ideological intellectual excesses in universities”.

One of them, Julien Aubert, issued a statement on Tuesday “hailing” Vidal’s comments.

Some French academics have also formed a group known as the “Observatory on De-colonialism and Identity Ideologies” to fight back against what they view as an unhealthy focus on race, identity and colonial history in academia.
