Union govt lauds Andhra Pradesh for cost optimisation in power purchases
VIJAYAWADA: Even as concerns were raised over procurement of power from markets as the state has surplus energy, the Union government has lauded Andhra Pradesh for saving the most in power purchases through ‘high-level cost optimisation’. The Ministry of Power also said AP is ‘one of the biggest’ buyers of power from market with its purchases accounting for about 16 per cent of its total requirement.
Ahead of the governing council meeting of NITI Aayog to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, scheduled on February 20, a meeting was held on Saturday with chief secretaries and secretaries of all states.
In the meeting, power secretary Alok Kumar is said to have told the NITI Aayog that AP saved the most in purchasing power from spot markets through cost optimisation by replacing sourcing from costlier units.
The state government till December purchased 6,320 million units out of the 44,665 MU requirement, and accrued savings of Rs 1,023.8 crore. “The state is using real-time market to manage renewable intermittency, and it is the largest seller in the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) market as well,” the Union secretary mentioned in his presentation to the NITI Aayog.
The state officials said the average cost of procurement, including transmission charges, was Rs 3.12 per unit as against the approved weighted average procurement cost of Rs 4.55 per unit. “We were able to save Rs 1.43 per and the benefit accrued up to December, 2020 amounts to about Rs 1023.8 crore. AP has now become the best example for other states in procuring cost effective power. In fact, providing interruptions-free power has been dominating the agenda of other states so far. Now they are looking at Andhra Pradesh and started talking about cheap power. This has enhanced the brand image of AP,” a top-ranking official said.
The official claimed that AP was leading the way in cost optimisation of power purchases, which account for about 80 per cent of the total costs of the power utilities.Another official pointed out that AP is one of the two states to have also successfully implemented the reforms proposed by the Centre to enable additional borrowings.

Gunasekhar’s Shakuntalam To Be Made As Pan India Project?
Telugu film industry is obsessed with Pan India films. As many as 15 projects are being made as Pan India projects from Tollywood and the latest to join the bandwagon is Samantha’s ‘Shaakuntalam’.
Samantha is already making her Hindi debut with a web series titled “The Family Man 2”. The latest we hear is the South siren is planning to dub Shaakuntalam in Hindi. The makers are also pitching the film as a Pan-India project to recover the costs.
Shakuntalam is based on the love story of Dushyanta and Shakuntala from the Athaparva of the epic tale Mahabharata. It tells about the love affair, secret marriage, separation of imprecation and reunion of the immortal love of Dushyanta and Shakuntala.
The film is directed by ace director Gunasekhar. Produced by Neelima Guna under Gunaa Teamworks banner, it has music by Mani Sharma. The film is expected to go on floors soon.

Asaduddin Owaisi slams PM Modi over farm laws
HYDERABAD: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to invite the farmers protesting in Delhi to his residence, like how he had hosted former US president Barack Obama. Nimmagadda to tour in Kadapa on polling day!
Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar will visit Chief Minister Jagmohan Reddy’s home district Kadapa during the panchayat elections.
He will tour Kadapa, Anantapur, and Kurnool districts on the day of polling to inspect the first phase of polling stations.
The commission also directed the election observers to make extensive visits to the revenue divisions where the elections are to be held in the respective districts.
They were also given magisterial powers. Under the name of the Privilege Committee, YCP is doing as much as they can to control him.

Netizens sharply criticise ‘Master’ makers for deleting a scene
Vijay Sethupathi and Thalapathy Vijay starrer action drama ‘Master’ is making waves across the south film industry. Amid the success, makers XB film creators unveiled a deleted scene that was later posted by Amazon Prime video on their YouTube channel.
In the scene Vijay looks in a dynamic change over where he speaks to the management of college after Savitha was s*xually abused by a college student. Amazon Prime Video shared a deleted scene from the film Master on 6th February. The scene is assumed to be a continuation of the film’s introductory scene. In it Vijay is seen showing his stance against atrocities towards female students.
Couple of days ago, singer Chinmayi who is quite vocal about women empowerment took a dig sarcastically at the director for picturing a survivor becoming the scape goat.
Also, netizens sharply criticised the makers for deleting the scene as it was very crucial. Few other twitteratis opined that the aforementioned scene could have been used and other redundant scenes should have been trimmed.
Another user said “This scene has such powerful message yet the makers deleted this out for some reason. The irony is that the film run time is still 179 minutes”.

BJP national general secretary Purandeswari has said that they are against the decision to privatize the steel plant.
Speaking at a press conference during her visit to Visakhapatnam, she said the sentiments of the people of the region would be brought to the forefront.
She said that they are going to Delhi on the 14th of this month. She said there was no political gain for the BJP behind this.
She lauded the extraordinary budget introduced by the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman this year. The state government wants to reduce taxes on petrol.
Health, human resources as well as six other factors have been identified and prioritized. Purandeswari said the Center would support and fund the AP state in all possible ways.
