Prabhas’ Raja Saab: Horror Romantic Comedy for Sankranti

Share

Prabhas’ upcoming film The Raja Saab marks a unique venture in his career. Billed as a horror romantic comedy, this genre experiment is a first for the superstar. Directed by Maruthi, the team is currently busy with post-production, with promotions expected to kick off in a month or two. While the film may not dramatically alter Prabhas’ career trajectory, its success is crucial for director Maruthi and the leading ladies, Nidhhi Agerwal and Malavika Mohanan.

Nidhhi Agerwal, despite her efforts in films like Hari Hara Veera Mallu, has yet to secure a major breakthrough, with iSmart Shankar being her only notable hit. She now pins high hopes on Raja Saab to deliver the career-defining success she has been seeking.

For Malavika Mohanan, Raja Saab marks her much-awaited Telugu debut. She made her Tamil debut with Vijay’s Master, but it did not bring her big success in Kollywood. Though established in Malayalam cinema, she is still aiming for pan-Indian recognition. Since joining Raja Saab, Malavika has shared glimpses of her experience working with Prabhas, generating curiosity among fans. Her recent film, Hridayapoorvam, received mixed reviews, making Raja Saab a critical opportunity for her to cement her presence in Telugu cinema.

With the film slated for a Sankranti release, early promotions by the heroines could build significant anticipation. A hit at the box office may not only spotlight Prabhas’ unique genre venture but could also elevate Nidhhi and Malavika to new heights in the pan-Indian film landscape.

Fahadh Faasil to Star in Tamil Thriller with Prem Kumar

Share

Fahadh Faasil, one of Malayalam cinema’s most celebrated actors, has recently faced a string of box office disappointments. Despite his consistent critical acclaim, several of his recent films—including Irul, Joji, Malik, Malayankunju, Dhoomam, and Mareesan—failed to make an impact commercially. His latest Onam release, Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, also ended up underperforming, with Aavesham being his only solo hit in recent years.

However, excitement is brewing around his upcoming collaboration with director Prem Kumar. The filmmaker revealed that Fahadh instantly liked the story narration of their new project. “My next film is with Fahadh Faasil. It will be a thriller with action, but my signature emotional touch will be there. I narrated 45 minutes to Fahadh, and he loved it,” Prem Kumar shared.

Adding to the buzz, the director confirmed that it will be a direct Tamil film, with shooting scheduled to begin in January. Fans are eagerly awaiting this fresh collaboration, hoping Fahadh will return to box office glory with this exciting thriller.

Siva Karthikeyan Talks Tamil Cinema’s 1000 Cr Ambition

Share

Gone are the days when filmmakers prioritized quality content above all else. Today, the focus often shifts toward maximizing box office revenues, with pre-planned budgets and strategies driving production. This trend has made audiences skeptical—sometimes a film’s reported budget of 100 Cr doesn’t reflect on screen. The current benchmark everyone eyes is the coveted 1000 Cr club, and Tamil actor Siva Karthikeyan recently shared his perspective on this milestone.

Siva believes that Tamil cinema is steadily progressing toward this achievement, though many films have fallen short due to weak storytelling or limited pan-Indian appeal. “Many Tamil films failed to reach 1000 Crs, either because they lacked storytelling quality or because they weren’t pan-Indian,” he noted.

The actor also emphasized the role of ticket pricing in box office success. “If we charged as much as Bangalore or Mumbai, films like Jailer could have easily crossed 800–1000 Cr. I’m not in favor of increasing ticket prices; our focus should be on gaining stronger penetration in North India,” he explained.

Siva Karthikeyan has been actively contributing to expanding Tamil cinema’s reach. With films like Amaran, he has already helped push Kollywood into the North Indian market. Yet, like many, he is disappointed that Tamil films haven’t reached the 1000 Cr mark despite hits like Vikram, Leo, Jailer, and Amaran. High expectations surrounded projects such as Thug Life, the PS franchise, Indian 2, Leo, and Coolie, but not all lived up to the hype. Even Siva’s Madharaasi faced similar challenges.

Looking ahead, Siva will be seen in Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara, and audiences are eager to see how this next project performs at the box office.

Court Debate on Pawan Kalyan’s Dual Role as Actor and Minister

Share

The ongoing legal battle over Jana Sena Party president and Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan’s decision to continue acting in films has reignited debate on whether elected representatives can pursue acting careers for remuneration.

According to election rules, public representatives — MLAs, MLCs, and MPs — are barred from holding an “office of profit.” They cannot head business entities or take up any assignment that generates income, apart from retaining equity shares. For example, TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu has no direct role in Heritage Foods, and YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy does not actively manage his ventures, including Bharathi Cements and Sakshi Media Group.

The key question now is whether these restrictions extend to politicians who are professional actors. While they may not hold stakes in production houses, they receive hefty pay for acting — an income critics argue is no different from a salary.

A precedent exists in Karnataka, where government employees are barred from acting in films or TV serials, with the court ruling: “By acting in films, an employee is alternatively employed, which is impermissible.” Critics argue MLAs and MPs, being public servants, should face the same restrictions.

The issue surfaced in a writ petition filed by ex-bureaucrat-turned-politician Vijay Kumar in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He alleged that Pawan Kalyan, despite his ministerial role, continues to act for profit and even misused state machinery to promote Hari Hara Veera Mallu.

In response, Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas defended Kalyan, stating there is no legal bar on ministers acting in films. He cited precedents from former CM N.T. Rama Rao, who acted in films even while in office, with the High Court upholding his right. Srinivas also dismissed the allegations of misuse of government resources, noting the petitioner failed to provide evidence linking Pawan to ticket price hikes.

Justice Venkata Jyothirmayi adjourned the matter to September 15, after counsel for Vijay Kumar sought time to study the NTR case verdict before continuing arguments.

The case has sparked wide public interest, with many awaiting the court’s interpretation on whether cinema careers and public service can legally coexist.
