Naidu Made Sharif A Scapegoat

Share

By getting the capitals decentralization bill referred to the select committee in the council, the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu made its chairman, M A Sharif a scapegoat.

Sharif, a trusted loyalist of the TDP from the party’s initial days and was restricted to the party office in Hyderabad and later in Guntur, was made chairman of the Legislative Council only on February 7, 2019, just two months before the state went for general elections.

Shariff was under heavy pressure from Chandrababu Naidu to ensure that the bill is delayed, not rejected. He had first sought the Chairman to reject the bill, for which the humble man replied in negative.

The Council, by any means, should not say no to the Government Business, as the Houses function or meet for the government business on first priority.

Then, the option was to delay the bill by referring it to the select committee, for which Sharif reportedly agreed.

He had also rejected the requests of the ruling YSR Congress, before the bill was brought to the House.

He rejected their requests when it was also brought to the House, based on the Leader of Opposition Yanamala Ramakrishnudu using rule 71.

Even after the bill was taken, Sharif refused to refer the bill to the select committee initially, as there was no such representation from the TDP for the same.

However, with Chandrababu Naidu seated right in front of him in the officers’ gallery and watching him directly, Sharif, while admitting that his decision was not in accordance with the rule, was using his discretionary powers to send the bill to the select committee.

The chairman was under such a pressure, he did not announce the constitution of the select committee, nor did he mention that the committee would be constituted at a later date. The irony is that the chairman went out of the House, without even announcing the adjournment.

His statement that ‘his decision to use his discretionary powers was not in accordance with the rules,’ had made him a big scapegoat for the political upmanship of Chandrababu Naidu.

The audio clip of the statement of Sharif is now doing rounds in the social media, giving some sort of explanation how and under what pressure he acted in the council and under what pressure he took the decision.

US imposes visa curbs on pregnant women

Share

Washington: President Donald Trump opened a new front in his battle against immigration on Thursday, barring the issuing of visas to pregnant women seeking to enter the United States for so-called “birth tourism.”

In announcing the move, which takes effect Friday, the White House said foreigners were using the visas “to secure automatic and permanent American citizenship for their children by giving birth on American soil.”

“The integrity of American citizenship must be protected,” White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement.

Temporary B-1 and B-2 visitor visas would no longer be issued to “aliens seeking to enter the United States for ‘birth tourism,'” the White House said.

Calling the practice “a glaring immigration loophole,” it argued that the crackdown on “birth tourism” was for public safety and national security as well as to maintain the “integrity of our immigration system.”

“The birth tourism industry threatens to overburden valuable hospital resources and is rife with criminal activity, as reflected in federal prosecutions,” it said.

“Closing this glaring immigration loophole will combat these endemic abuses and ultimately protect the United States from the national security risks created by this practice,” the White House said.

“It will also defend American taxpayers from having their hard-earned dollars siphoned away to finance the direct and downstream costs associated with birth tourism,” it said.

The US Constitution guarantees automatic American citizenship to anyone born on US soil.

Trump has made restricting illegal immigration a top priority of his administration, and has threatened in the past to abolish birthright citizenship.

Under the new rule, a US consular officer “shall deny a B non-immigrant visa to an alien who he or she has reason to believe intends to travel” to the United States for the purpose of giving birth in the country.

Enforcing the new rule may prove problematic.

A State Department official told reporters that “consular officers have been directed not to ask all female applicants if they are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.” “Officers will not be allowed to require any sort of pregnancy test,” the official added.

The official said it was estimated that thousands of children were born in the United States each year to women who arrived in the country using B visas and the number was rising.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, there were 33,000 babies born from “birth tourism” between mid-2016 and mid-2017. The total number of annual births in the United States is around 3.8 million.

A year ago, law enforcement authorities announced that they had broken up three networks which offered the possibility to Chinese nationals to give birth in California.

According to the State Department, some “birth tourism” operators charge up to $100,000 to women seeking to have a baby on US soil.

Pic Talk: Kodali Nani Stands On Chair at Speaker Podium

Share

Ap Capital city discussions and assembly sessions have been witnessing extremities, both in assembly and legislative council houses. While the MLAs spit fire on each other with heated arguments and slogans in Assembly, the hulchul at the council is no less.

In a rather unwanted act, YSRC MLAs surrounded the speaker podium in the legislative council and here is YSRC leader Kodali Nani and Botsa Satyanarayana standing on a chair and table at speaker podium, which is not just a disrespect to the speaker, but to the house itself.

When Jagan warned TDP MLAs in assembly to stay away from speaker podium and even advised the speaker Tammineni Seetaram to order marshals to pull the leaders away who crossed the podium ring, how is the act of YSRC MLAs getting near the podium of council speaker justified?
