Allu Arvind Searching Director For Mahesh

Share

Geetha Arts is one of the top banners of Telugu cinema, but they didn’t have a film with one of the top stars of Tollywood, Mahesh Babu, yet. Of course, they haven’t worked with any other superstars than those within their family, but Allu Arvind wants to give a spin to that narrative now.

From a time, the senior producer is said to be looking for the right story and director to work with Mahesh Babu. While Mahesh agreed to do a film with Arvind, the story sent by the senior producer through Parasuram couln’t excite the superstar. Even after doing some multiple treatments and touchups to that scripts, Mahesh didn’t really like it.

Moving on, Allu Arvind is said to be on script hunt once again for Mahesh through his associates including Bunny Vas and UV Creations. They are waiting for the right director to come up with an efficient story for Mahesh, and they seem to be looking at some Tamil directors also, a source says.

Anyway, a film of mega camp producer with a hero other than the camp always sounds exciting. Hope this combination materialises soon.

‘Ruler’ Review: Outrageously Bad

Share

After the successful film ‘Jai Simha’, senior actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, director K S Ravikumar and producer C Kalyan have teamed up for ‘Ruler’. The film didn’t create any great buzz but it is projected to be one of the biggest releases this year for various reasons.

Let’s find out whether this successful combination has come up with another winner this time?

Story:
A corporate company’s chairperson (Jayasudha) saves a badly-injured man, who in turn saves her on another occasion. She adopts him as her son. She names him Arjun Prasad (Balakrishna) and makes him the new chairperson of her company.

When Balakrishna proposes to take up a solar power project on behalf of his company in Uttar Pradesh, a politician threatens him. The local people recognize him as Dharma, a police officer.

Why and how did Dharma lose his memory and what is his rivalry with Thakur, the local minister?

Artistes’ Performances:
Nandamuri Balakrishna played a role with two different shades – a software company owner and a police officer. In both the variations, he looks awkwardly odd with his outrageous wigs and costumes. At some places, he looks obese and in other places, he is a bit slim.

Sonal Chauhan and Vedhika have played silly characters and look like girls with no brains. They have, however, provided enough glamour show.

Prakash Raj, Bhumika, Jayasudha and Nagineedu…. all have played monotonous characters.

Technical Excellence:
Music director Chirantan Bhatt has given very regular and passable tunes. Cinematography by C Ram Prasad is good. Editing is uneven. Dialogues also lack effectiveness.

Highlights:
Nothing much

Drawback:
Outdated story
Formulaic narration
Boring screenplay
Silly comedy
70’s and 80’s romance

Analysis
While all other senior stars are experimenting with stories and are trying hard to connect to the current generation with new kinds of characters, it is surprising that Nandamuri Balakrishna is still agreeing to do films with scripts of 80’s and 90’s. His choice of scripts is proof that he is not updating himself.

The problem is not with the clichéd storylines but the hackneyed narration and outrageously bad physical appearances. Director KS Ravikumar who also seems to have stuck in ’90s has presented Balakrishna in a garish avatar.

The story written by Parachuri Murali is outdated. Balakrishna himself had acted in many such stories decades ago. Still, Murali and Ravikumar have narrated it in an outdated fashion with inane comedy scenes.

Some sample scenes:

1) Sonal Chauhan is the owner of an IT company. But she doesn’t know about IT hackers. When her assistant introduces some pick-pocketers as IT hackers, she blindly believes and takes them to Bangkok to hack hero Balakrishna’s computer. We see some cheap comedy in Bangkok.

2) When an IT woman employee complaints about sexual harassment by a foreign company executive, her project manager tells her to co-operate with the executive so that they would get the project.

3) Vedhika (in a flashback episode) in her first meeting with Balakrishna asks him to look at every inch of her body and let her know which body part was not beautiful so that she would go in for cosmetic surgery (naa structure lo ee part baledo cheppu….adi surgery cheyinchukunta).

4) A comedy track involving Saptagiri with cow’s urine and dung.

Added to these silly episodes, there are lectures about the greatness of Telugu farmers who can cultivate even barren lands. Then there is also a speech against the caste system by Balakrishna.

All these scenes are straight out of badly-made bygone era’s commercial movies. It is a wonder how Balakrishna okayed such a crass and outdated story.

Frankly, we have to use a microscope to look for one positive aspect in this movie that is replete with boredom.

Bottom-line: Oh My Balayya!

Amaravati Farmers Not Happy With YCP’s ‘Return’ Gift

Share

YSRCP minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy blew up a whole new controversy regarding the Andhra Pradesh capitals. Speaking to the media he said that the farmers who have offered their land for capital construction will be returned.

These comments did not go down well with the agitating farmers who are protesting in Amaravati since the last three days. One of the farmers said, “When the capital was announced, it was CM YS Jagan who said a capital city needs 30,000 acres land and now he wants to change the capital while his ministers are saying they will return the lands to farmers. This is any child play.”

Another farmer said, “We trusted then state government that if a capital is constructed here, our children and others will be opportunity and employment. What is their future now? The current government is betraying farmers trust.”

Adding, “Even if the land is returned to farmers, it will be of no use as fertile land has been converted into concrete jungle. Roads were laid, many constructions are in progress and it is not appropriate to make such comments and throw the farmers in distress,” said the farmers. They also appealed the YSRCP government and ministers not to make such hasty comments and lead to more confusion.

With farmers protesting, the police have imposed 144 section at villages surrounding Amaravati.

#IStandWithRajnikanth and #ShameOnSanghiRajini trending

South superstar Rajinikanth has broken his silence over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) but he did not take anyone’s side and stood neutral on this issue. He posted a press statement on his Twitter which led the netizens divided.

“Violence is not the way to find solution for any issue. I request the people of India to stay united keeping in mind the nation’s security and welfare,” said the statement of Rajinikanth. The actor turned politician added that the violence and unrest in the country has pained him and appealed everyone to stay calm at this moment.

However, Rajinikanth was late to express his opinion on CAA and the other day during his upcoming movie ‘Darbar’ trailer launch in Mumbai, he refused to comment on it. This late reaction has brought criticism. A few of them backed him while a few opposed him. The hashtags #IStandWithRajnikanth and #ShameOnSanghiRajini were trending on Twitter for some time now.

Meanwhile, the protests over CAA have intensified all over the country. In Mangalore, two persons have died in the clashes between cops and agitators. In the national capital, Muslim community members have sat down at Jama Masjid. Large number of police personnel were deployed at Jama Masjid.

Movie Review : Prathi Roju Pandage

Share

Sai Dharam Tej has finally took a break from commercial potboilers and looking to do films that appeal to families and youngsters. Even Maruthi who is known for making quirky comedies has come out of his comfort zone for Prathi Roju Pandage.

What’s It About?

Raghuramayya (Satya Raj) is suffering with lung cancer and will not live for many days. His children who are busy with their lives don’t have time to come to take care of him. His grandson Sai (Sai Tej) comes and makes a bucket list for his grandfather and fulfills those wishes. He even arranges his marriage to make his grandfather’s wish come true.

Performances:

Sai Dharam Tej who has dropped Dharam from his name is good as a doting and caring grandson. He has effortlessly slipped into the shoes of a regular Manavadu that doesn’t does usual Telugu Cinema hero stuff. He needs to work on his acting in emotional scenes, though. Rashi Khanna gets a role that can be easily related to the TikTok savvy youth. She is good as Angel Aarna. The film is all about Satya Raj and the actor should be thankful to Maruthi for offering this role to him ahead of many other options. Satya Raj’s chemistry with Sai Tej is the best thing about this film. Rao Ramesh is impressive with his sarcastic portrayal of a materialistic son. Rest of the star cast chipped in whenever required.

Technical Aspects:

Maruthi has shown maturity as a filmmaker with Prathi Roju Pandage. The story is familiar, but Maruthi deals it in his style with right mix of emotions and fun. He has finally come out of the loop of creating characters with some defects. He has done well in dealing with the emotional core of the film without getting too preachy and generic. However, usage of humor has gone overboard at times. Even the characters of Satya Raj’s children except Rao appear cartoonish.

Music by Thaman is good. A couple of songs will stay with you for sure. Background score also is impressive. Cinematography is eye pleasing with lush green locales. Editing is fine. Dialouges are good in key scenes. Production values are just okay.

Highlights:

Rao Ramesh Characterization and performance

Comedy in first half

Dialogues in climax

Drawbacks:

Scenes between father and children in second half

Inconsistent middle portions

Predictable narration

Analysis:

Films passing message to children to take care of their ageing parents have come in numbers. Prathi Roju Pandage has all the clichés of the formula. Irresponsible children, lonely father and a caring grandson. Maruthi makes it an entertaining film at least until the fist half with his terrific grip over subtle humor. The way he shows the grown up children’s materialistic behavior with their father at the beginning is both humorous and also hard-hitting.

Maruthi is good at penning characters and he does a fantastic job in writing Rao Ramesh and Rashi Khanna characters that provide ample humor in the first half. Even the best songs of the album come in the first half making it a breezy entertainer despite its emotion ridden plot. First half has a few hiccups here and there but it entertains on a whole.

Maruthi couldn’t maintain the humorous tone in the second half and he fills it with some ridiculous scenes to make the children of Satya Raj look bad. Scenes like building a grave for dying father and making arrangements for Sava Yatra are not funny and downright cringe worthy. Murali Sharma’s thread makes Rao Ramesh even bad and such scenes make it look like an emotionally overblown television serial. Maruthi is a good writer and makes up for the flaws with well written climatic sequences. All in all, PRP is a mixed bag with some genuinely funny moments and some silly scenes in second half that spoil the fun.

Verdict: Mixed Bag!

AP Capital: Lot of surprises in Expert Panel report

Share

The expert committee on capital development had finally met chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and submitted its report to him on Friday.

The expert committee headed by G N Rao submitted the report, which is expected to favour decentralisation of development.

However, it is not known whether it had recommended separate capitals for executive (secretariat) and legislature (assembly), as indicated by Jaganmohan Reddy in the Assembly.

The committee, with experts on urbenisation, town planning and environment, is understood to have also studied the recommendations of Sivarama Krishnan committee in recommending the capital for the residuary state.

Ironically, the TDP government headed by Chandrababu Naidu, had ignored the Sivarama Krishnan committee in deciding Thulluru mandal for the capital.

Though the committee recommended against location of the capital between Vijayawada and Guntur, mostly along Krishna river, Chandrababu Naidu, zeroed it on 29 villages along the river.

Now, the present committee headed by retired IAS officer, G N Rao, too is understood to have recommended against continuing the capital in Velagapudi and other villages because of the construction cost involved in it.

The committee had reportedly reviewed the expenditure incurred by the previous TDP government for the construction of the existing buildings in Amaravati and formation of the roads and felt that the massive expenditure was not required for a state which is running with revenue deficit.

It is to be seen what the Chief Minister would decide after going through the report. The decision is likely to be taken at the cabinet meeting scheduled for December 24.

Buzz: Rakul Preet nowhere stopping!

Share

If you are a heroine from the south, trying to click in the North, and you fail in a couple of movies, you are gone. This is what many believe, as the likes of Tamanna and Kajal Agarwal failed to click in Bollywood after a couple of flops and came back to South to sizzle like usual.

But one heroine who is making it reverse and proving that nothing is impossible is none other than Rakul Preet Singh. Though some say that her closeness to Siddharth Malhotra is working out and some say that she is genuinely meeting every director and producers out there to get offers, Rakul is currently on a high.

After the success of her super sexy stint in De De Pyaar De, Rakul sizzled in Marjawaan but the film failed. However, it looks like Sid has recommended for another film that is being produced by Ajay Devgan and has both the heroes in the leads. Today Ajay made it official that this action-comedy project is rolling very soon.

Apart from this big movie, Rakul will be seen opposite Arjun Kapoor in another big budgeted film whose shooting has already commenced.

Is Mahesh The Highest Paid Actor In Tollywood?

Share

The new generation’s superstar Mahesh Babu is all set to come up with his latest movie Sarileru Neekevvaru very soon. As the film is set for a Sankranthi release, many are exciting waiting to see if the Superstar will repeat another blockbuster success like a Maharshi.

At this time, the news is coming up that Mahesh has emerged as a highest-paid star in Tollywood for the remuneration he charged towards Sarileru Neekevvaru. While he’s a partner in the movie, it is being heard that overall he will be taking home a huge chunk as remuneration from this film. They say that this payment is going to be highest for any star in the Telugu industry to date.

Actually Mahesh used to charge around 30 crores earlier, the back to back blockbuster has enabled producers to make almost 120+ crores business on his movies. That’s why maybe he has given a hike to his pay packet too. But that new figure he is taking home remains a secret for the now.

On the other hand, the news is also coming out that Pawan Kalyan is likely to emerge as highest-paid actor in TFI, with Dil Raju likely to pay him 50+ crores for Pink movie remake. We have to see if Mahesh is beating this figure.
