Prabhas and Mahesh Slip Positions in Forbes List

Share

Kollywood celebrities have shown their strength in earnings in the year 2019. For the first time since Forbes India magazine started publishing top celebrities list, Kollywood stars zoomed past our Tollywood superstars like Mahesh Babu and Prabhas.

Rajinikanth, Vijay, and Ajith have bettered their positions this year.

On the other hand, Prabhas stood at the 44th position in the list of top 100. Despite acting in biggie like “Saaho” that did more than Rs 350 crore business, Prabhas’s earnings are not on par with the Bollywood stars. He didn’t even cross Mahesh Babu’s earnings.

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s position has also slipped to 54 this year. He was in the 33rd position last year.

No other stars from Tollywood have made it to the list but for the first time Tollywood director Trivikram Srinivas’s name is featured in this list. He stood at 77th place with the earnings of Rs 21.5 crore. Trivikram is charging Rs 15 crore per each movie plus some stake in the profits.

Stars like Ram Charan, NTR and Allu Arjun who featured in previous years lost the place this year.

From Kollywood and Malayalam film industry, Rajinikanth, Ajith, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Mohan Lal, Mammotty, director Shankar, director Siva, Dhanush, and director Karthik Subbaraju have made it to the list.

The 29-year-old turned cover star for Wedding Vows magazine’s December cover issue and we bet you can’t take your eyes off of her stunning bridal avatar.

Decked up in trendy and glamorous ethnic picks, we are crushing over Pooja’s modern lehengas that are perfect for the on-going wedding season.

For this shot, the actress posed for the lens wearing a golden designer lehenga choli set.

It’s Megastar for ‘Sarileru..’ pre-release

Share

In what could be the biggest event ever, Megastar Chiranjeevi is said to be the chief of ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’ pre-release. Having wrapped up the shoot the other day, the makers have now focused on promotions.

On that note, they have discussed about the pre-release event and the producers have opined that Chiranjeevi’s presence at the event will be a big boost. Chiru has no calms in making it to the event and would certainly make it. Initially there were rumours that Ram Charan would be the guest for Mahesh’s film but defying that a bigger guest is on the way.

In the past many times Chiru and Mahesh shared the stage but for events which are not related to their respective films. This would be first of such beginning we can say.

This will also make ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’ to have an upper hand over the other Sankranthi release ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramloo’ starring Allu Arjun, which is making a huge noise with its songs.

The pre-release event of ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’ is scheduled on January 5th at LB Stadium. If we recall, Mahesh’s ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ event was also held at the same venue and it was Young Tiger Jr NTR who was the guest of that night.

Pic Talk: Megapowerstar turns wildlife photographer

Share

In the film ‘Orange,’ Megapowerstar Ram Charan’s role was packed with interests such as graffiti and wildlife photography. Among the two, the second one is truly the Mega hero’s personal interest and now he makes his debut as a wildlife photographer.

Posing with a camera in his hand, Ram Charan is seen here with the long mustache that he had grown for his upcoming movie ‘RRR.’ Not just making debut, Ram Charan along with his wife Upasana will be hosting a gala in aid of World Wildlife Fund, called ‘Wildest Dreams.’ This event will be held at the mega hero’s renovated home in Hyderabad.

More than about the event, it would be interesting to see how Ram Charan has captured the wildlife with his lens and his photography skills will be looked at for. Hope the Megapowerstar lives up to the expectations and in fact this is a good alternative career for him.

Why Only Farmers Hold Protests In Amaravati?

Share

Whenever there is any protest in the Amaravati villages, particularly in the last six months of the YSR Congress regime, it is only the farmers who are joining the protest, as if there are no others in these 29 villages.

The farmers, that too, those close to the TDP, are always on fire against the government, obviously for political reasons.

They held protest when Minister Botsa Satyanarayana said a committee was formed to study the feasibility of Amaravati as capital. But they remained silent when the government released Rs 780 crore towards lease amount to the farmers for the land pooling. They did not even thank the government for releasing the amount.

When Chandrababu Naidu toured some parts of the region, particularly the places of foundation stone and construction sites, the same farmers were seen on the roads greeting Naidu and blaming Jagan for neglecting Amaravati, again keeping silent on Rs 780 crore released to them by Jagan government.

Now, when Jagan announced that Amaravati would be political (legislative) capital, the same farmers are on roads and today they have called for bandh.

They speak what the TDP wants them to speak and it is known to everyone there.

But, the question is why are only these farmers found on the streets every time? Why are the agriculture labours never held any sort of protest in the last five years?

The labours have lost their living as the lands were taken by the government and there were no agriculture works. But they were never allowed to protest.

The labours were promised monthly pension of Rs 2500 as compensation for loss of work, but were paid rarely. But, they were never allowed to protest.

It is a strong feeling among the people in these villages that be it a protest or a meeting, it is only the TDP-backed farmers who have the right to be found on the streets and not others.

Even today, when they are enforcing bandh in these capital villages, any visitor can find who are they?

The placards, the banners and other display material is supplied from the TDP office. The slogans that they raise too are written in the TDP office!

Can anyone dispute?

The impeached American Presidents

Share

Washington: The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives has voted to impeach President Donald Trump on the basis of two charges — abuse of power and obstruction of the Congress. But he is not the first American President to be impeached.

The others were as the following:

Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson was the 17th President of the US and he served from April 1865 to March 1869. He was President Abraham Lincoln’s Vice President and assumed presidency after the latter was assassinated.

He came to power just as the Civil War concluded and according to a BBC report, Johnson constantly sparred with the Republican-held Congress over how to rebuild the defeated US South.

The Republicans pushed for a legislation to punish former Confederate leaders and protect the rights of freed slaves. Johnson used his presidential veto to block the Republican efforts at every turn.

This led to a conflict, leading to his impeachment by the House of Representatives. But he was subsequently acquitted in the Senate by one vote.

Richard Nixon

Richard Nixon, the 37th President of the US, served from January 1969 to August 1974. His near-impeachment traces back to the 1972 break-in of the Democratic Party’s headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington D.C.

Investigations revealed that the burglars were paid by funds from Nixon’s re-election campaign.

In August 1974, as the House Judiciary Committee prepared impeachment articles, Nixon was forced to release Oval Office recordings in which he was heard ordering his staff to have the CIA tell the FBI to stop its investigation into the Watergate break-in.

Fearing a loss of political support and that he would be impeached and removed from office, Nixon resigned that same month. He remains the only US President in history to have done so.

Bill Clinton

Within a year of taking office in January 1993, Bill Clinton, the 42nd American President, was under probe by a Justice Department special prosecutor into real estate dealings and his affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

In December 1998, the House of Representatives voted along party lines to impeach Clinton on two counts: perjury and obstruction of Congress. But in February 1999, Clinton was acquitted by the Republican-controlled Senate.

For the year that the Lewinsky-Clinton scandal consumed the country, the President resisted growing calls to resign, the BBC said in a report.

But Clinton left office in January 2001 with a 65 per cent approval rating – the highest of any of American President since the Second World War.

Jagan To Abolish Legislative Council?

Share

Is YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy contemplating abolition of state legislative council?

The answer seems to be yes, if the speculations doing rounds in a section of media and social media are to be believed.

According to these reports, Jagan stumbled upon the idea of abolishing the legislative council after it had rejected two important bills proposed by his government – one on introduction of English medium in government schools and second one on creation of separate commissions for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The bills were rejected by the council which has majority number of Telugu Desam Party members.

Out of 58 members in the AP state legislative council, the TDP has 26 members and YSRC has only nine members and Bharatiya Janata Party has got three. There are five Progressive Democratic Front members, four independents and eight nominated members. The independents and nominated members are also backing the TDP.

The same situation will continue till 2021, when one-third of the sitting members would be replaced by new members in the council. Since YSRC has won 151 assembly seats, it will get more members. But Jagan does not want to wait till then, say these reports.

Apparently upset with the rejection of the two bills, the Jagan government is now contemplating abolition of the council.

He is preparing the ground for the same and the main pretext is that the council is not serving its purpose and secondly, it is causing huge financial burden on the state exchequer.

In fact, only six states have legislative councils – Telangana, AP, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Three years ago, the NDA government had asked these states whether they would like to abolish the councils, but for political reasons, they wanted to continue the same.

If Jagan government passes a resolution in the assembly abolishing the council, the Modi government will have no problem in accepting the same. A notification would be issued by the Centre subsequently.

Andhra Pradesh had its first legislative council in 1958 which continued till 1985, when the then N T Rama Rao government abolished the same on the ground that it was just a sixth finger.

It was only the Y S Rajasekhar Reddy government which restored the legislative council in 1987. The same situation is continuing now.

JC angers cops with boot-licking comment!

Share

Maverick Telugu Desam Party leader and former Anantapur MP J C Diwakar Reddy’s unsavoury comments against the police at a meeting on Wednesday evoked strong reactions from the police officers’ association.

Speaking at a TDP meeting in Anantapur right in front of party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, JC said he would police officials lick his boots once the TDP returned to power.

He made the comments against the police officials in the district, barring the Superintendent of Police (SP).

He alleged that the police officials were harassing the TDP cadre by pressuring them to join the ruling party and foisting cases against TDP cadre including retired government officials.

Alleging that the police are pressurising TDP cadre to join YSR Congress, Diwakar Reddy said the police are bending on their knees (before the ruling party leaders) barring the SP.

“I know that the SP is a good man, but he is also under pressure. I am telling now those policemen who are acting at the behest of the ruling party will not be spared. These police officers will have service of more than 10 years. Once our government returns, I will make these policemen lick my boots,’’ he said.

Taking strong exception to Diwakar Reddy’s comments, the Anantapur district police officers’ union demanded an unconditional apology from him to the police.

Representatives of the District Police Officers Association Sake Trilok Nath, Zafar, Sudhakar Reddy, Gondla Harinath, Tej Paul and Sivakumar told the media that not only the people of the state know as to who had licked the shoes but also the people of the state.

“It is unfortunate that Chandrababu Naidu, who had worked for 14 years as chief minister, did not even condemned Diwakar Reddy’s comments,” he said.

The association leaders recalled that Diwakar Reddy had paid heavy penalty for his comments he had made in the past and was facing the music even now.

“Can you come out without gunmen?” Police association questioned JC.

They said the Anantapur district police system was working effectively, ethically and honestly. They threatened to file a case against the former MP and fight for his prosecution.

“We shall bring the matter to the attention of the authorities to file criminal cases. It is not known whether JC will be in the future, but, the police system will,” the police officers asserted.

Share

The Thullur police in Amaravati imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Cr PC and Section 34 of the Police Act on Thursday in the entire capital region in the wake of the people calling for a bandh in protest against the proposal to create three separate capital for Andhra Pradesh in place of Amaravati.

The police told the villagers not to create disturbance to the peace in the capital region and block roads causing inconvenience to the commuters. They, however, suggested that the farmers can agitate peacefully. They warned of strict action against those who violated the law.

Schools, businesses, government offices and hotels have been shut down in the wake of farmers’ calls for bandh in 29 villages in the capital. Farmers and laborers launched relay hunger strikes in Velagapudi.

On the other hand, the police are heavily deployed in the capital. Tight Security was set up heavily in villages within the capital. Three additional SPs, 10 DSPs, 20 CIs and 30 SIs are monitoring the Law and order.

The farmers of Amaravati took to the streets to protest against the chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s announcement of rooting three capitals to the state. They demand full-fledged capital be at Amaravati.
