Pic Talk: VD turns ticket seller

Share

Hero Vijay Deverakonda’s maiden film as producer ‘Meeku Maathrame Chepta’ has hit the box office on Friday. Yet VD hasn’t stopped promoting the movie and once again he did something hatke.

Earlier this morning, VD reached Prasad’s IMAX and straight away he walked in to the office of ticket vending. He took the chair of the ticket seller and sold tickets of his movie to the audience.

That’s Vijay Deverakonda for us. He knows how to market and promote films and bring in some hype irrespective of the buzz surrounding the movie.

‘Meeku Maathrame Chepta’ has director Tharun Bhascker turning hero and is directed by Shammeer Sultan.

Meeku Matrame Chepta Review

Share

Meeku Matrama Chepta has a relatable plot where an about to be married guy faces embarrassment when an old video surfaces on the internet. It is a slapstick comedy with relatable issues that are faced in this smart phone era.

What is it about?

Raks (Tarun) is about to get married to his lover (Vani) in a day and a old video of his gets uploaded on a porn site. He needs to get it removed before anybody knows. But it is not as easy as he thinks. He takes the help of his friend (Abhinav) to make it disappear from the internet.

Performances:

Tarun Bhascker is an effortless actor who can play any type of character without much fuss. After putting up a decent show in Falaknuma Das, he carries MMC on his shoulders with his likeable performance and impressive comedy timing. He gets ample support from Abhinav, who is also a natural actor. They are ably aided by the supporting cast played by Anasuya, Vinay Varma and Vani Bhojan.

Technicalities:

Shameer Sultan picked up a plot that is easily relatable. However, he couldn’t make it into a laugh riot despite having good plot on hands. Comedy only worked in bits and pieces and the whole scenario seemed stretched at many points. The script is written as if they are making a short film and didn’t make engaging enough to be a two hour long film.

Music is just okay and cinematography also is very average. Dialogues are good here and there. The film is made on a very low budget and that is evident in almost every frame. Except for three to four main characters, all of them were played by mostly unknown actors.

Thumbs Up:

Relatable Plot

Funny situations

Tarun’s performance

Thumbs Down:

Weak Screenplay

Second Half gets repetitive

Very Ordinary Climax

Analysis:

Meeku Matrame Chepta has a plot that will surely seem promising as an idea. However, it is not developed to an extent where it could be made into a movie. It sure has some funny scenes and dialogue that tickle your funny bone, but everything gets repetitive after a point. Tarun Bhascker and Abhinav’s performance saves some poorly written scenes and make it watchable until the first hour.

But the second half turns out to be a stretch. The situations keep repeating again and again without taking the story forward. One would expect the climax of such scenario to be hilarious, but the pre-climax and climax sequences fall flat without any highs or humor. There is an attempt to give it an interesting twist at the end, but it also appears to be a half baked idea that doesn’t make things any better.

The setup promises a lot of fun, but fizzles out too soon. Some funny situations hold it from dropping below the average mark until the intermission point. A better second half with even funnier situations is what is needed to make it work, but the writing in the second half is not up to the mark. They seems to have ran out of ideas and kept on repeating same situations again and again. A funny final episode would have saved it from being a disappointment, but the writer-director couldn’t come up with one.

MMC is a very average comedy that offers few laughs here and there. Tarun’s flawless performance is one of its biggest plus points, but it doesn’t have enough to send its audience with a satisfactory feel. Vijay Deverakonda’s brand and promotions would help it get a decent opening, but it turns out to be a film that is made for streaming platforms and not for theatrical experience.

Verdict: A Half Baked Idea!

pHOTo Alert: Happy birthday Principessa!!!

Share

Happy birthday, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan! Abhishek Bachchan made Aishwarya’s 46th birthday extra special with an adorable wish on Instagram.

The couple are currently in Rome with their daughter Aaradhya and looks like Abhishek added a little Italian touch to his birthday wish for Aishwarya.

“Happy birthday, principessa,” he wrote on Aishwarya’s birthday greeting card, which is a stunning shot of the former beauty queen with the Roman cityscape in the backdrop.

For the uninitiated, “principessa” is Italian for princess and all we can say is Aishwarya, dressed in a floor-sweeping gown, looked every bit like a fairy tale princess.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Roman holiday is a mix of work and vacation, which explains her red carpet like look from last evening, when she attended at event to celebrate her 20 years of association with watch brand Longines.

Jagan challenges CBI court verdict in HC!

Share

Within an hour of a CBI special court dismissing the petition of YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy seeking personal exemption from appearing in the trial court in connection with the CBI case pending against him, his lawyers moved the high court.

According to the reports, his lawyers challenged the CBI court’s verdict stating that Jagan was entitled to get the exemption in accordance with the principles of natural justice.

They pointed out that Jagan is not an ordinary politician now but is in a responsible position of the chief minister of a state, which required his presence all through the week to administer the state. As such, he cannot attend the trial court every Friday.

They also argued that being the chief minister, Jagan will have to be given all the protocol facilities including security wherever he goes.

And so, he cannot attend the case in his individual capacity, but in the capacity of the chief minister and naturally, the government will have to incur all the expenses to fulfil the protocol formalities.

“The exemption is sought only in the interest of the larger interest of people of Andhra Pradesh but not because it is inconvenient for Jagan”, the lawyers argued.

Never meant to demean Anushka, matter blown up unnecessarily: Engineer

Share

Former India cricketer Farokh Engineer on Thursday cleared the air on his statement that all that the BCCI selectors did during the World Cup in England earlier this year was fetch “cups of tea” for actress Anushka Sharma, the wife of India captain Virat Kohli.

Engineer said that the comment was made in jest and that he never intended to demean Anushka.

“I just said it in a jest and it’s being made a mountain out of a molehill. Poor Anushka has been dragged into it, she is a lovely girl. Virat Kohli is a brilliant captain and coach Ravi Shastri is extremely good. The entire matter is being blown up unnecessarily. It turned out to be a selector as he was wearing an all India blazer”, Engineer told Republic TV.

Controversy erupted after the former India wicketkeeper came down heavily on the senior national selection committee, saying all that the selectors were doing during the World Cup in England earlier this year was getting Anushka Sharma “cups of tea”, according to a report in the Times Of India.

“I didn’t even know one of the selectors during the World Cup and I asked him who the hell he was, because he was wearing the India blazer and he said he was one of the selectors. All they were doing was getting Anushka Sharma cups of tea,” Engineer said.

Anushka had posted a long tweet on Thursday, reacting to the claims made by Engineer.

“The latest version of these ill intended lies is that I was being served tea by selectors at matches during the World Cup! I came to one game during the World Cup and sat in the family box and not the selectors’ box as reported, but when has the truth mattered when it’s about convenience,” Anushka wrote on Twitter.

She also said that her name should not be used by anyone to criticise the selection committee.

“If you want to have a comment on the selection committee and their qualifications, please do so as it’s your opinion but don’t drag my name into it to substantiate your claim or sensationalise your opinion. I refuse to allow anyone from using my name in such conversations,” Anushka wrote.

Being captain Kohli’s wife, Anushka is often seen accompanying him on tours and she is also spotted at stadia during matches. She has been trolled heavily whenever India or Kohli flopped on the field.

In Thursday’s tweet, Anushka also denied ever bothering the BCCI for tickets and security. “My name was used for false stories to make it look like the board was being bothered for my tickets or security etc., when in reality I bought my own tickets for matches and flights and I still kept quiet.

“I was asked to stand in a group photo by the High Commissioner’s wife despite my hesitation to be in it, and a huge issue was created over this blaming me for intentionally wanting to be part of it and the said event, even though I was invited for it. An official clarification was issued by the board on the same and I still kept quiet,” Anushka wrote.

Air hostess, husband held for blackmailing bizman

Hyderabad: The police in Hyderabad on Thursday arrested a former airhostess and her husband for blackmailing a businessman after honey trapping him.

According to the police, the couple had demanded Rs 1 crore from the businessman and had extorted Rs 20 lakh by blackmailing him after shooting his videos and photographs in a compromising position.

According to the Cyberabad Police, an investor had approached the Moinabad police station on October 18, complaining that former air hostess Kanishka and her husband Vijay Kumar were blackmailing him. The police took up the probe and arrested the couple.

A police officer said that Kanishka befriended the businessman and was moving with him to hotels and resorts. She also made him invest Rs 10 lakh in a restaurant.

Laying the honey trap, Kanishka had invited the businessman to a resort, where she gave her a drink laced with sedatives. Kanishka’s husband Vijay Kumar took pictures and shot videos of the businessman with her.

Vijay Kumar later showed the pictures to the businessman and accused him of destroying his wife’s life. He even used a toy pistol to demand Rs 1 crore from the businessman. He threatened to make the photographs and videos public. Police said the couple even forced the businessman to sign a bond paper.

The investigation revealed that the couple had suffered losses in hotel business and since then they were honey trapping soft targets to extort money.

The police are investigating to identify the other targets of the couple.

Today: Deverakonda’s Comedy Vs. Ravi Babu’s Horror

Share

Vijay Deverakonda’s maiden production Meeku Matrame Chepta is releasing in theaters today.

The film directed by Shammeer Sultan has been making buzz on social media ever since its first look was out.

It’s hilarious promos and innovative promotions helped MMC to get noticed by the target audience.

Vijay is confident that Meeku Matrame Chepta will be liked by the audience for its fun quotient.

Director Tarun Bhaskar playing the main lead is one of the major attractions for this film. MMC is clashing with Aaviri, a horror film directed by Ravi Babu.

The talented filmmaker has been out of form in recent times, but Aaviri is backed by Dil Raju, who believed that it has the potential to click.

With big films out of contention for a while, it is going to be the month for small films.

Let’s see if these two movies can set the tone for the movies to come.

Bunny Needs Two Months for the Makeover

Share

Allu Arjun and Sukumar’s movie was launched with much fanfare on Wednesday morning but the stylish star will not join the shoot of this movie this year at all.

Allu Arjun is still shooting for director Trivikram’s “Ala Vaikunthapuramlo” which is expected to continue till the first week of December.

Soon after wrapping up “Ala Vaikunthapuramlo”, Allu Arjun will start preparing for the role of Sukumar’s movie.

The director is very particular about the makeovers of his protagonist. Be it Ram Charan in ‘Rangasthalam’ or NTR in ‘Nannaku Prematho’, he made them undergo for complete drastic change.

Similarly, he has designed a different look for Allu Arjun in this film that is set in the backdrop of the Seshachalam forest.

Allu Arjun will look rough and tough with a rugged beard in this movie. Bunny needs some days to get into this look.

Hence he will only join the shoot of Sukumar’s film in the New Year 2020.

Balakrishna Plays a Ghajini in Ruler?

Share

Speculation is that Nandamuri Balakrishna is playing dual roles in director KS Ravi Kumar’s upcoming release ‘Ruler’.

But sources have informed us that he’s not playing a dual role. He plays a ‘Ghajini’ type of role in this movie.

He appears in two different shades, of a corporate guy and a police officer. Much like in Suriya starrer ‘Ghajini’, short term memory loss is the main point of this mass masala action entertainer.

Balakrishna has two young heroines to sing duets with them. They are Vedhika and Sonal Chauhan.

‘Ruler’ is set for December 20 release. The film’s shooting part will be completed this month-end. He will commence the next movie in the direction of Boyapati in December.

Slender beauty Shruti Haasan will be joining Ravi Teja and Gopichand as female lead.

The launch is expected in this month and Tagore Madhu will produce #RT66.

Opinion: Badly lacking in health crisis management

Share

KCR might be good at media management and whipping up the Telangana sentiment whenever there is a threat to his reign but it is an indisputable fact that he is desperately lacking in skills at addressing health problems in the city.

During the first term, Hyderabad and Telangana were badly rocked by the swine flu menace.

Swine flu deaths still continue to occur, it’s only that the media is bored of reporting them and they only find a mention in the odd column or two in the inner pages of the city edition.

In his second term, Dengue fever is making the lives of the people miserable. Several deaths have been reported and government hospitals continue to be flooded with patients.

However, there doesn’t seem to be any understanding and response on the part of the TRS government towards tackling this calamity.

They merely seem to be hoping that it would end if they just weather it out. And infrastructure management has a huge role to play in the spread of such viruses.

Whenever it rains in Hyderabad, traffic goes for a toss. Drains spill on to the muddy roads and potholes carrying with them all kinds of filth and garbage. These assist in the spread of diseases such as Dengue.

An aspiring world-class city should have a world- class health management system as well failing which the dream of ‘Bangaru Telangana’ will easily metamorphose into a ‘Dengue Telangana’.
