Fact Check: Jagan order makes yellow media jittery!

Share

The decision taken by the Andhra Pradesh cabinet headed by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday to sue media, if they publish any negative story against the government without any evidences, has caused jitters in the yellow media.

The cabinet has empowered secretaries of various departments to file defamatory cases against all types of media, including print, electronic, digital and social media, if they publish any story against their respective departments without evidences.

Though the news was carried as a small item in many papers, Andhra Jyothy made a hue and cry over the same and described it as a draconian order. It even carried a cartoon depicting the government as an eagle trying to capture preys (media).

As a matter of fact, there is nothing draconian in the order. It has already been there since the days of Jagan’s father Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, when the electronic media was booming and carrying all sorts of negative stories.

The only difference is that the powers to deal with such negative stories was with the special commissioner of the Information and Public Relations Department. There were many cases of reporters and media houses being dragged to the court during the Congress and Telugu Desam Party regimes in the past.

The Jagan cabinet only felt that since departmental secretaries are well aware of the facts of the stories published in the media, they are now being authorised to file defamation cases against the media. They can take legal action within 24 hours against the organisation responsible for the news item after ascertaining the veracity of such stories.

However, the secretaries, too, will follow a procedure before filing the defamation cases. They will first issue rejoinders to the media house which publishes the negative stories and if the media doesn’t carry the rejoinders, then the officials take to legal recourse.

The order is applicable only to the media houses which carry stories without any evidences. If they have enough evidences to substantiate their stories, there is no need to be scared of the defamation notices. In such cases, the Jagan government itself will be on the defensive.

So only yellow media which publish scandalous and malicious stories against the government with mala fide intentions should be worried about the Jagan order.

It may be mentioned that soon after taking oath as the chief minister on May 30, Jagan warned of stern action against a section of media houses if they published any defamatory news against his government.

KCR cancels Huzurnagar rally: RTC effect?

Share

The proposed public meeting of Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Huzurnagar on Thursday has been cancelled.

KCR was to address a huge rally in the evening as part of the party campaign in the by-elections to Huzurnagar assembly seat, which was vacated by Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy on his election to the Lok Sabha.

The TRS leaders made elaborate arrangements for the meeting spending lakhs of rupees and were expected to mobilise at least a lakh of people to the meeting.

However, an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office said KCR’s meeting at Huzurnagar has been cancelled.

The office also sent a letter written by Director of Aviation V N Bharat Reddy to the CMO stating that it was not advisable for the CM to fly to Huzurnagar due to adverse weather conditions.

The letter said there would be heavy rain and thunder storms in Huzurnagar and surrounding areas, accompanied by lightning, squally winds and a possible cloud burst.

“There will be reduced flight visibility and weather conditions are detrimental to flight safety. Hence, it is not advisable for the CM to fly to Huzurnagar,” Bharat said in the letter.

However, there has been a talk in the party circles for the last two days that KCR might not address the Huzurnagar rally, as intelligence reports indicated that he might face strong protests from the people in the wake of RTC strike.

The party leaders were also not confident of mobilising huge crowds to the meeting in the wake of lack of transport facilities and also reluctance of the people to attend the rally. They conveyed the same to KCR.

It is learnt even the chief minister told the party colleagues that he did not mind losing the Huzurnagar assembly seat, but would not succumb to the pressures of the RTC employees’ strike.

RP to remain in jail, as he faces another case!

Even as the Nampally court was hearing the bail petition of V Ravi Prakash, former chief executive officer of popular Telugu television channel TV9, the Hyderabad police booked him in yet another case against him on Thursday.

According to reports, the police booked a case against Ravi Prakash under Section 406/66 of Information Technology Act, for allegedly creating a fake identity card in the name of Natarajan, working for I-Labs.

The police picked up Ravi Prakash from Chanchalguda jail on PT warrant and produced him before Miyapur court, which sent him to judicial remand.

It would mean Ravi Prakash would have to be in jail for another two weeks, till he gets bail.
Meanwhile, the high court imposed stay on the custody petition of the Banjara Hills police till November 2.

Following the court order, the Nampally court also deferred to November 4, the petition of the police seeking to take Ravi Prakash into custody for five days.

In the meantime, the court was to give its judgement on the bail petition of Ravi Prakash in connection with the case of siphoning off the company money to his personal account in the name of bonus.

But even before the court took any decision on his bail, the police booked another case on him and sent him to jail for some more days.

If Ravi Prakash gets bail in both the cases, the police might file yet another case against him to see that he would continue to remain in jail!

No end in sight to impasse over Telangana RTC strike

Share

Hyderabad: The indefinite strike by employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) entered the 13th day on Thursday as no end appears in sight to the impasse despite High Court directions to both the government and employees to find a negotiated settlement.

With no invitation from either TSRTC management or the government for the talks, over 48,000 employees were continuing the strike.

The striking employees staged protest in front of bus depots to prevent the buses from coming out but they were arrested by the police.

Security has been further tightened at the depots and bus stations as TSRTC has stepped up efforts to restore normal operations with the help of temporary employees.

TSRTC officials said they were operating 75 per cent of bus services and would soon be restoring full operations to ensure that there is no inconvenience to people.

Making it clear that there is no change in his stand, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao told a meeting of officials late Wednesday that there will be no talks with the striking employees.

He also ruled out taking back the employees who failed to report to durty before the expiry of the deadline.

The meeting with Transport Minister P. Ajay and senior officials lasted for five hours. While unlike after the previous meetings, no statement was issued from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), official sources said the chief minister ruled out any talks or compromise with the striking employees.

KCR, as the chief minister is popularly known, noted that the strike during festival time has caused a loss of Rs 150 crore to TSRTC, adding to its financial woes.

Pointing out that his government provided Rs 3,300 crore to the transport utility in last five years, KCR said there was 67 per cent jump in the salaries of the employees.

KCR asked officials to go ahead with recruitment of temporary drivers and also hire more private buses.

Meanwhile, striking employees in Karimnagar tried to lay siege to the residence of state minister Gangula Kamalakar to protest what they called his provocative statements on the strike. Police arrested the protesters.

Joint Action Committee (JAC) of striking employees has called for ‘dhoom dhaam’ or protests with the display of folk arts across the state on Thursday.

Student bodies will also take out rallies in support of the employees. A rally is planned from Osmania University later in the day.

The JAC is also going ahead with its plans for Telangana shutdown on Saturday. Opposition parties and several trade unions have declared support to the shutdown.

After Some Hiccups, ‘Gang Leader’ Is Back On Prime

Share

Despite the fact that some films have signed the 50-day agreement with Amazon Prime Video, it looks like the digital streaming platform is taking a call if the film meets poor result at the box office. Though Producers Council has earlier given feelers that they have made a decision to not allow Prime to screen any film until 50 days after the release, it looks like that is not being followed.

While big films like Saaho are yet to come out on Amazon Prime (Saaho released 47 days ago), the film Nani’s Gang Leader is out already on the OTT platform. The major hiccup is that Gang Leader came out almost a week ago (27 days after release) and many started watching too. But couple of hours after the public upload, Prime Video has blocked the movie for reasons unknown.

And then, the film is available in all regions from Yesterday, thus giving respite to those who are waiting for the film to come up on Prime Video. Is this a good phenomenon or bad phenomenon anyway? Of course, producers are making huge by selling their films to Amazon Prime, so they see only the beneficial side.

But in the long term, audiences may stop coming to theatres after reading reviews of a film, as they know that the movie will come up on Prime in three weeks time.

Director Advised Heroine To Buy Flat, Heroine Buys Car

Share

She happens to be a couple of films old heroine in Tollywood who got popularity for her glamour treats. And then recently she gifted a luxury car to herself which is not an impossible task though. However, an interesting talk is being heard about her car-thing in Tollywood.

A director with whom she worked in the recent times is said to be advising her to buy a flat in Hyderabad with all the hard-earned money she stashed in a bank. He even suggested a couple of builders, vaastu experts and sent a team to scout perfect location-centric flats for her. After all this is done, the heroine has taken the decision of buying a luxury car without paying heed to the director’s advises.

Some say that the heroine has felt that buying home will not make any news, but buying a car of 1 crore range will make her a news item. But then, the director has insisted her to buy a flat because the rates of real-estate in Hyderabad are something that goes upwards, while this luxury car’s price will be diminishing.

Welcome to the next level of fan wars

Last year in December, we have Shahrukh Khan’s “Zero” movie trailer released and liked by many. Later the film came and flopped at the box office, pushing the hero into a sort of disappointment and depression. But suddenly the ‘likes’ for this trailer on YouTube started building up and it touched 2 Million other day. You know why?

The increase in the likes of Shahrukh Khan’s Zero trailer likes has nothing to do either with Bollywood or SRK’s worldwide fans. Actually this is because of ‘fan wars’ in Kollywood, as the anti-fans of hero Vijay are said to have a hand in this. Apparently Vijay’s “Bigil” trailer started getting huge ‘likes’ on YouTube and the trailer is en route touching 2 MIllion likes, to become the first Indian video that got 2 million likes. But then, anti-fans who have noticed this have decided to not let Bigil let that credit, say Kollywood folks.

With “Zero” trailer having 1.9 million likes already, the anti-fans are said to have worked day and night to make Zero the first Indian video on YouTube to get 2 Million likes. Welcome to Kollywood, where fan wars of next level that resemble nothing less than Hollywood revenge dramas.

Jagan Sends Final Warning To ‘corrupt’ Ministers!

Share

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has been striving right from the day one to provide transparent and corruption-free administration in the state, appears to be frustrated with the reports of some of his own cabinet colleagues allegedly indulging in corrupt practices.

At the cabinet meeting held at Secretariat in Amaravati on Wednesday, Jagan strongly warned his ministers against indulging in corruption.

Without naming any particular ministers, the chief minister said he had evidences of a few ministers resorting to corruption.

“I don’t want to reveal their names here, but I will call them and speak to them personally. I will not hesitate to take action against them, if they do not mend their ways,” Jagan told the cabinet ministers, leaving them in an uneasy atmosphere.

According to sources, there was a pin drop silence in the cabinet hall and a feeling of shock on the faces of all the ministers and officials, when Jagan was talking about corruption in the ministers for about five minutes.

He said he would sack such corrupt ministers from the cabinet and that would send a strong message into the people.

“But, if I take action against the corrupt ministers, then it will be embracement for both me as well as the accused ministers,” he said.

In fact, it is his second warning to the ministers after taking over as the chief minister. He said the media was watching everything and every activity of the government.

“If you don’t change your corrupt practices and will be exposed by media, there will be pressure on me and I have to remove you from the cabinet,” Jagan told them.

The chief minister pointed out that he had selected his cabinet colleagues out of 150 MLAs, hoping that they were the best.

“When I am trying to deliver good governance, these type of corrupt practices from ministers wouldn’t be good for the government as well as party,” he observed.

A Reason Behind Chiranjeevi’s Exaggerated Josh?

Not even any reigning star has done such post-release promotion like the way Megastar Chiranjeevi is doing it for ‘Sye Raa’.

Ever since the film has hit theatres, Chiru has been meeting the press, biggies, celebs and politicians, to promote the film even more. In case if you’re wondering why all this, here is a reason.

Amidst criticism that Sye Raa hasn’t collected the required 115 crores ‘share’ to save Telugu distributors from losses, but it only touched 100 crores regarding which Megastar is celebrating big time, here comes a thing or two.

Insiders revealed that Chiru is quite upset before the release and felt that the film might not work. This talk could be supported by Chiru’s own revelations during Bollywood press-meets, where he stated that they have spent it vastly without expecting anything in return.

As the film collected beyond his expectations, Chiru is beyond happy and hence his exaggeration of the happiness could be felt after the film’s release, the source said.
