Watch: Saaho Falls in its Fifth Day

Share

“Saaho” has collected a whopping Rs 350 Cr gross in just five days, a record amount for a non-Baahubali movie. This is the brighter side of the story.

On the other side of the coin, it will be facing harder times ahead. The film has witnessed a huge drop in its fifth day all over India. The fall is 50% from Monday. This is a huge drop.

In Nizam, where it has been showing extraordinary collection, the fall is more than 60%. Once the holiday period is ended, it has failed the litmus test of holding well.

The worrying factor for the team now is to contain a further drop. Or they would face huge losses despite all the hype around the collections in the first five days.

The Ceded area is already looking at 50 to 40% losses.

Nizam and the Hindi version have been performing extraordinarily for this movie. In Hindi, the film has collected about Rs 7 Cr in its fifth day and the film’s first-week collection would be in the range of Rs 110 Cr nett.

A Shock to Producers: Zee TV Stops Buying Films

Share

In a rather shock to Tollywood producers, Zee Telugu TV has put a temporary ban on buying spree of Telugu films.

The TV channel played a crucial role in producers getting handsome amounts for their movies’ satellite rights.

Only after Zee’s aggressive method of bagging rights of satellite and digital that producers started demanding more money.

However, the channel has now stopped buying new films. Due to the recession in the economy, the advertising spends on the channels is slowly coming down.

Also, Zee TV has gone for a reassessment of its annuals spend on buying the movies and the original content. This has led to the stoppage of the bagging rights of new movies.

So, the producers will have to adjust with whatever the quote Star Maa TV and Sun TV group offer now. ETV never buys for fancy rates.

The satellite rights of big movies will now comedown.

Pic Talk: Rugged Sree Vishnu from Thipparaa Meesam

Share

Among the contemporary heroes, Sree Vishnu always picks different content and genres. His last outing ‘Brochevarevarura’ was a hit at the box office and now he is arriving with ‘Thipparaa Meesam’.

The teaser of the film is scheduled for launch tomorrow and Sree Vishnu underwent a complete makeover for his look.

Matching the title, Vishnu will be seen with full of beard and moustache and there is a seriousness in his role.

Not just in the content, Sree Vishnu is also coming up with freshness in his looks and getting audience applause. By doing consistent good films, he has made a market for himself.

Krishna Vijay is directing ‘Thipparaa Meesam’ while Nikki Tamboli is playing the female lead role.

The film’s shooting has been wrapped up and the post-production works are going on.

‘Harish as CM’ demand comes out in the open!

Share

Finally, the supporters of TRS senior leader, former minister and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao in the TRS are openly demanding that Harish be made Chief Minister of Telangana.

Harish supporters who are upset at KCR sidelining their leader after coming to power for second term in December 2018, are daring to challenge KCR by demanding Harish should be made CM.

TRS SC cell former vice president Chintakunta Vishnu accompanied by scores of Harish supporters in TRS visited Jogulamba temple in Gadwal, the only shakthi peetham in Telangana, and broke 1,116 coconuts praying the Goddess to ensure Harish becomes CM of Telangana soon.

They raised slogas in support of their demand to make Harish as CM. They also expressed anguish at KCR for sidelining real TRS leaders like Etela Rajender, Nayani Narasimha Reddy etc and giving importance to defected leaders like Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Malla Reddy etc.

This is for the first time that TRS activists came out in the open demanding party leadership to make Harish as CM.

Looks like, KCR is losing control over the party in his second term.

Minister Etela Rajender too recently created furore by saying publicly that minister post is not a ‘biksha’ given to him by anyone in TRS.

He also said he is one among the ‘owners’ of TRS as he is working with the party since its inception in 2001 and not like other leaders in TRS, who defected from other parties.

Dear Comrade special screening held in Mumbai

Share

A special screening of ‘Dear Comrade’ was held in Mumbai the other day and the lead pair Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna were invited as special guests.

Along with them, few noted celebrities and critics too have graced the special screening which was organised by Amazon Prime.

This is interesting as the movie is made available on the streaming platform last Friday.

‘Dear Comrade’ is an emotional love story and has many layers to it. Earlier Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has acquired the Hindi remake rights of the film.

We have to see who will star in the Hindi version.

Yet another shock to TDP in Vizag!

Share

The beleaguered Telugu Desam Party in Visakhapatnam, which received a big jolt last week with the defection of Visakha Dairy chairman Adari Anand, his sister Rama Kumari and thousands of party workers into the YSR Congress party, got yet another rude shock on Wednesday.

Senior TDP leader Chintakayala Sanyasi Patrudu, who is the younger brother of former minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, resigned from the party along with scores of his followers.

They submitted their resignation letters to the party through fax. The defection was a shock to Ayyanna, who is celebrating his birthday on Wednesday.

Sanyasi Patrudu and his followers, however, did not immediately disclose which party they would be joining in and said they would make an announcement to that effect shortly. But indications are that they would be joining the YSR Congress party.

All these days, Sanyasi Patrudu had been the right hand of Ayyanna Patrudu in Narsipatnam and played a major role in establishing the TDP network in the constituency.

There had been differences between the two brothers of late and the party has virtually split into two groups in the last few days.

However, Ayyanna did not expect that his brother would resign from the TDP. In a way, the resignation exposed the sorry state of affairs in the party in Visakhapatnam district, say sources.

Jagan’s reverse tendering gets cabinet nod

Share

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval to the decision taken by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to terminate the contract of Navayuga Engineering Company Limited for constructing Polavaram hydro-electric project.

The cabinet, which met at the state secretariat in the morning, approved the decision to go in for reverse tendering for the hydro-electric project works worth Rs 3,266.11 crore.

The cabinet also decided to recover the advances paid to Navayuga Engineering for the execution of the project.

Another approval given by the cabinet was the decision to cancel the contract given to Navayuga group for executing Machilipatnam Port Private Limited project.

The cabinet decided to take back 412.5 acres of land given to the company, as it had not yet started any work.

The officials of the industry department explained to the cabinet that the company had not even paid lease amount for the lands allotted to it.

Among the other decisions taken by the cabinet are: extension of ban on Maoists for yet another period of one year and increase in payment of salaries to ASHA workers from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 a month.

Nani Under Tension for Gang Leader

Share

Team “Gang Leader” has settled an issue about the title and is widely using it as “Nani’s Gang Leader” as another producer had registered the same title.

Even as the film is gearing up for release, there is no strong buzz. There is no hype around this film. This is worrying Nani.

The film’s trailer didn’t create the required buzz though it received a good number of views on Youtube.

Lack of a popular heroine is another reason for the low buzz and also the songs composed by Anirudh Ravichander are yet to pick up. Anirudh’s songs make an impact only when the film gets released.

It has been a long time that Nani has delivered a huge blockbuster. His recent “Jersey” which won critical acclaim was a moderate hit. Before that, he has a slew of flops. He needs a blockbuster badly right now.

Will he bounce back with this Vikram Kumar’s film?

Saaho Crashes Big Time Leaving Buyers In A Spot

Share

The honeymoon at the box office is over for Saaho, the biggest action film from India.

As expected, the film had witnessed a steep fall in collections on the first working day since its release. The drop is huge considering the enormous price tags it was sold for.

The first four days at the box office had given a feeling that the film has braved the flop talk and won the appreciation of the people that matters, the ticket paying public.

But it is now evident that Saaho’s soaring collections in its first weekend were all because of the pre release buzz and hype.

The word of mouth remained negative irrespective of collections and the real ‘power’ of its content is out in the open now.

Saaho collections dropped in Hindi, but it has surpassed Rs. 100 Cr Nett mark, which is an achievement in itself.

The film still needs to recover a lot and the early box office trends on Wednesday indicate that it is going to be an uphill task for the film to go anywhere close to the breakeven mark.

Producers are promoting the gross collections of Saaho to make it look like a gigantic blockbuster, but in reality the film still needs to collect nearly as much as it collected till now.

Pawan to lead anti-Reddy campaign?

Share

Actor-turned-politician and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan had been claiming all these days that he had no caste discrimination and that he would not like to be considered as a Kapu leader.

However, during the recent elections, Pawan realized that politics in Andhra Pradesh were influenced by caste equations and caste has become an integral part of the lives of the electorate, especially in the rural areas.

Whether one agrees or not, the political parties in the state are linked to one party or the other.

It is an open secret that the Telugu Desam Party is dominated by Kammas, though it claims the BCs have been its backbone. Majority of the TDP tickets are given to leaders from Kamma community, which also used to grab lion’s share in the government contracts.

Similarly, the YSR Congress party is dominated by the Reddy community and over 50 MLAs of the party belong to this community. After Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power, Reddys have been posted in major positions in the government.

Pawan, who failed to exploit his Kapu vote bank, has now fallen in line and started talking on caste lines. Surprisingly, he seems to have decided to target the Reddy community to woo the Kapus, who have actually been anti-Kamma right from the beginning.

This is evident from his latest statements, in which he has been calling the chief minister as: “Jagan Reddy garu.” He has started accusing Jagan of favouring his own community in appointments and other positions.

Interestingly, he is sparing Kapu leaders in Jagan party like Botsa Satyanarayana and Avanti Srinivas while targeting Reddys.

It is expected that Pawan will come out more clarity on his stand on castes at the party’s political affairs committee meeting to be held at Dindi in East Godavari district on Thursday and Friday.

BJP in Andhra a party in confusion?

Share

Bharatiya Janata Party has burnt its fingers in Andhra Pradesh by joining hands with the Telugu Desam Party in 2014 and continuing the friendship till it was dumped in 2018.

TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu did not allow the BJP to grow as an independent at all in Andhra.

While Naidu could come to power in AP using Modi charisma in 2014, the BJP faced a miserable loss in 2019 elections because of its friendship with Naidu.

The BJP is now trying to gain some ground in the state and it is not so easy to build the organization when a powerful party like YSR Congress party is in power. What it has to do is to build the organization brick by brick and emerge as a powerful force.

For that, the BJP has to replace the TDP as an alternative to the YSRC. To achieve this, the party has to first decimate the TDP completely and take its position.

The BJP leadership has to break the finances and organizational network of the TDP and force the TDP leaders to defect to the BJP.

Instead of doing it, the BJP leaders in Andhra are building castles in air, boasting that they would come to power in Andhra in 2024.

They started attacking the Jagan Mohan Reddy government, questioning his moves and defending the decisions taken by the previous TDP government, whether it is construction of illegal structures on Krishna river bund, Amaravati capital or Polavaram tenders.

In the process, what the BJP leaders are forgetting that their actions would ultimately benefit the TDP. It was evident from the way the TDP leaders have come out of their depression and started attacking Jagan strongly. The BJP’s agitations boosted the morale of the TDP cadres.

Realising this, the BJP leadership in Delhi is learnt to have pulled up the state leaders for targeting Jagan, instead of weakening the TDP.

It reportedly pointed out that not a single TDP MLA could join the BJP in the last three months, as boasted by some party leaders.

“Let us be friendly with the YSRC for now and our prime target is the TDP. Only if the TDP disappears, the BJP will have any chance to emerge as a potential opposition party,” BJP central leadership is learnt to have told the state leadrs.
