Jagan’s 5 Dy CMs move to reward communities’ support

Share

Amaravati: Creating a record of sorts, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will have five deputy chief ministers, said to be the highest-ever in any state in the country.

Jagan Reddy, who will be expanding his cabinet on Saturday, told the newly-elected legislators of YSR Congress Party on Friday that he will have five deputy chief ministers in the 25-member full-fledged cabinet.

Reddy’s five deputies will be picked up from five major social groups – Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Backward Classes (BC), minorities and Kapus.

This is being seen as Reddy’s gesture to reward these communities for throwing their weight behind the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), enabling it to storm to power with a landslide victory last month.

The YSRCP polled nearly 50 per cent votes to win 151 seats in 175-member Assembly and also bag 22 out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state, virtually wiping out the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Jagan, as the YSRCP chief is popularly known, took oath as the Chief Minister at a public ceremony in Vijayawada on May 30.

The 46-year-old Reddy told a YSRCP Legislature Party meeting at his official residence here on Friday that the cabinet will have representation from all sections of society. He also declared that half of the council of ministers would be from SCs, STs, BCs and minorities.

In its election manifesto, the YSRCP has made various promises for the welfare and development of these communities, which constitute about 70 per cent of the state’s population and are believed to have overwhelmingly supported the YSRCP to give it a huge mandate.

Reddy’s predecessor, N. Chandrababu Naidu, had two deputy chief ministers – K. E. Krishna Murthy and N. Chinnarajappa, representing the BC and Kapu communities, respectively.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s earlier cabinet also had two deputy chief ministers from among the BCs and Muslims.

Political analysts say Jagan, by having five deputies, wants to win the goodwill of these communities and further strengthen his vote bank.

Unlike TDP, which is dominated by the socially and politically powerful Kamma community, YSRCP is dominated by Reddys. While the leadership of the YSRCP and the government will remain with the Reddys, by nominating five deputies, the Chief Minister is keenness for carrying other key sections with him.

His father, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who was the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2009, had also enjoyed the support of these sections of society who have traditionally voted for either the Congress or the TDP.

Though Rajasekhara Reddy had no deputy chief minister, he won the backing of these groups by implementing a series of welfare schemes for them.

With Jagan Reddy inheriting the political legacy of his late father, and YSRCP replacing Congress as the main political force in the state, he is keen to consolidate his support among the SCs, STs, BCs, minorities and Kapus.

Kapus, who had traditionally voted Congress, also appear to have preferred the YSRCP over Jana Sena whose leader and film actor Pawan Kalyan is a Kapu. Jana Sena came a cropper with one Assembly seat.

In 2014, the Kapus had apparently backed the TDP-BJP combine after they promised reservations for the community. However, the TDP government could not implement its promise due to legal issues.

Political analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy believes that the new Chief Minister’s move to have five deputies is more of a symbolic gesture as the real power will concentrate his hands and those of the coterie around him.

“It is good optics. It is only to show to these communities that their representatives have been made deputy chief ministers,” he said.

“Power in regional parties across the country is centralised and YSRCP is no exception,” he added.

There were many comments on the looks of Rajnikanth and Allu Arjun, but those heroes proved their worth and today millions of fans throng to theatres for them. Hope Anand understands this in case if he met his trollers on social media already.

First Look Pics Of Telangana Secretariat

Share

Few months back the Telangana government has shelved its plan for the construction of new secretariat at Bison Polo Grounds spread across 60 acres. As the Defence ministry is delaying the process of allocating the land to state government, the TRS government has lost all the hopes.

So KCR made a smart move by requesting the joint Governor of Telugu states, Narasimhan to handover the buildings owned by Andhra Pradesh government in Hyderabad to Telangana. In no time, AP government reacted followed by Governor’s approval. Now Telangana CM KCR is planning for the construction of new secretariat at old Andhra Pradesh assembly location. As per the government sources, very soon the foundation stone will be laid for the construction.

Recently KCR had finalised the designs of the new secretariat and they are going to be plush and as grand as a palace. The budget and others details of the secretariat will be finalised in the coming days. KCR wants the construction of secretariat to be wrapped up in less than 18 months and asked the concerned officials to come up with relative plan.

Can Pawan Repeat Dasari?

Share

The sensation that Dasari Narayana Rao had created and left an indelible mark – other than through his films – was his news paper Udayam. Founded in 1984 with Vijayawada as the headquarters, Udayam had created a sensation and had given jitters to its then competitors like Eenadu. Udayam had also given break to many journalists who are now senior editors in various media houses. Barely a month after its launch, Udayam had registered over 2.24 lakh copies circulation which was a great feat and stood at No.2 standing next to Eenadu.Â

However, Dasari, who was busy with movies, had to entrust responsibilities of Udayam to Congress leader and liquor baron late Magunta Subbarami Reddy. Subsequently, Udayam had posted huge financial losses later due to some political decisions like Liquor Ban by then government allegedly to help then leading daily Eenadu. Udayam had been shut down owing to its deep losses. Although Dasari had dreamed of revival of Udayam, it didn’t materialize.

Now that Pawan Kalyan is all set to launch his own paper, many from film industry and many from his community are hoping that Pawan would repeat Udayam’s magic created by Dasari. However, it is not that easy as unlike Dasari’s time, today there are news papers like Eenadu, Andhra Jyothi, Sakshi are doing quite well besides others.

Certainly, this is a major challenge for Pawan to eat into the market share of these leading vernaculars. If Pawan does it, definitely it will be a new benchmark in media fraternity. Let’s wait and watch.

Will This Allu Arjun’s Movie Help Akkineni Hero?

Share

Sushanth Anumolu, the nephew of Akkineni Nagarjuna, is testing his luck from a long time in films but nothing solid is happening. Though Chi La Sow got him name and success, he’s yet to cash on that.

Currently, Sushanth has grabbed the chance of playing a crucial role in Allu Arjun’s next being directed by Trivikram Srinivas. The actor felt quite happy for joining the shoot of the movie with Bunny, Trivikram, Pooja Hegde and others. In case if Sushanth could prove his mettle in this role, surely this will be a ray of sunshine for him.

In films that are made by other directors, this youngster never got the chance to explore his acting side. But the characters carved by Trivikram usually give the actors some scope to showcase their talents even with fewer scenes. And if that happens, surely Sushanth is going to get big break.

But he should be careful of what he picks next, as starring in such character roles will get him only similar offers if he continues doing so.

Jagan to sack 90% ministers after two-and-a-half years!

Share

It is good news for some and bad news for others in the YSR Congress legislature party.

Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who created a sensation of sorts by announcing that he would appoint five deputy chief ministers in his cabinet to be formed on Saturday, also revealed a shocking news to the cabinet berth aspirants among the MLAs.

While announcing that he will form a full-fledged cabinet by inducting 25 ministers including five ministers, Jagan also declared that 90 per cent of the ministers who would be swearing in on Saturday would be sacked after two and a half years.

“There is going to be cabinet reshuffle exactly after two and a half years and 90 per cent of the present ministers will have to quit then, paving way for new ministers. This is to ensure that all the deserving MLAs will get a chance to be part of the government. I don’t want to cause discontent in any deserving MLA just because I won’t be give him or the cabinet berth,” he said.

Jagan also gave a hint that half of the cabinet would comprise SCs, STs, BCs and minorities, thereby indicating that he wants to get rid of the general perception among the people that his cabinet will be dominated by Reddy community, which constitutes one-third of the MLAs.

Jagan’s decision will be definitely a good news for those who will not be making it to the cabinet on Saturday, but it is certainly a bad news for those who will be taking charge as ministers.

Naturally, any minister does not to give up cabinet post just like that and when he knows that he will not be there in the cabinet after two and a half years, he will concentrate more on making as much money as possible during his tenure rather on the implementation of development and welfare programmes.

It will also lead to chaos in administration as each minister will have his own style of functioning and priorities.

Let us see whether Jagan will have complete control over his cabinet ministers in the long run!

YSR Congress to replace Congress in Telangana!

Share

If TRS leaders think that they have demolished entire Opposition in Telangana by finishing Congress with CLP-TRSLP merger on Thursday, better think twice.

A new Opposition in the form of YSRCP is all set to emerge as a formidable political force in Telangana before 2023 Assembly polls to challenge the supremacy of TRS.

Having swept recent Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh with a landslide majority and coming to power, YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is learnt to be seriously considering to revive YSRCP in Telangana.

As ruling party in neighbouring AP and as CM of a neighbouring state, YSRCP and Jagan will have certain advantages both financially and politically which Jagan wants to exploit in Telangana and emerge as an alternative force in TS.

Jagan feels that after the decimation of Congress, there is ‘huge political vacuum’ in Telangana, which only YSRCP can fill.

Though BJP is considered to be the future alternate force in Telangana after the party won four Lok Sabha seats recently, it’s weak political base in Telangana, especially at grassroots level has been exposed in recent elections for zilla parishads and mandal parishads.

While TRS made a clean sweep in these elections, both Congress and BJP could not even open the accounts in several districts, giving indications that both these parties cannot fill the ‘opposition vacuum’ in TS.

Considering this, Jagan wants to fill this vacuum by reviving YSRCP.

YSRCP contested 2014 general elections in Telangana and won one Lok Sabha and 3 Assembly seats, all in Khammam district.

Subsequently, all of them joined TRS after Jagan decided to confine party to AP with an aim to win 2019 Assembly polls.

YSRCP did not contest any polls in Telangana from GHMC polls in 2016 to recent Lok Sabha polls in April 2019.

Now, Jagan wants to revive the party in Telangana from the same GHMC elections from where YSRCP stopped contesting polls in TS.

GHMC elections are due in January 2021. There is ample time of two years for Jagan to gear up party for GHMC polls.

Hyderabad has considerable Seemandhra population, of whom there are many YSR and Jagan supporters.

Jagan is confident that YSRCP can make its mark in GHMC polls in 2021 setting the stage to face TRS in 2023 Assembly polls.

Several Reddy, BC, SC, ST, Minority leaders in TRS, Congress, BJP and other parties in Telangana are ready to join YSRCP if Jagan revives the party as they believe that Congress and BJP cannot give any fight to TRS in 2023 Assembly polls and only a ‘charismatic and powerful’ leader like Jagan, who is CM in neighbouring state, can give TRS a run for its money.

So, Telangana is going to witness interesting political developments in the coming days in the form of YSRCP.
