TRS bounces back, makes clean sweep in MLC polls!

Share

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Monday made a clean sweep of the by-elections to three Telangana Legislative Council seats held on Friday.

The ruling party won Warangal, Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy seats from Local Authorities’ Constituencies as the vote count was taken up on Monday.

The contest in the by-elections was between TRS and main opposition Congress party.

In Warangal, TRS candidate P. Srinivas Reddy defeated Congress candidate Venkatrami Reddy by 825 votes.

TRS’ Chinnappa Reddy won Nalgonda seat, beating Komatireddy Lakshmi (Congress) by 226 votes.

In Rana Reddy constituency, former Minister P. Mahender Reddy won the by-election with a margin of 244 votes over Pratap Reddy of Congress.

A total of nine candidates were in the contest. While only TRS and Congress candidates were in the fray in two constituencies, three independents also contested in Warangal.

Of 2,799 voters in all three constituencies, 2,753 exercised their franchise on Friday.

The by-elections were caused by the resignations of Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, P. Narender Reddy and Konda Muralidhar Rao, whose tenure was to end on January 4, 2022.

Congress’ Rajgopal Reddy and TRS leader Narender Reddy resigned as they were elected to the state Assembly while Muralidhar Rao resigned after leaving the TRS to join Congress.

Radhakrishna trying to bring Naidu, KCR together!

Share

ABN-Andhra Jyothy owner Vemuri Radhakrishna is doing everything to bring his “boss” Chandrababu Naidu and TDP back into limelight.

In his latest weekly column in ABN-Andhra Jyothy, known as Kotha Paluku (critics dubb it as Chetha Paluku), Radhakrishna says TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao should be careful about BJP which is trying to emerge as a strong political force in the next five years in Telugu States.

He says Naidu and KCR will be the victims if they fail to check BJP in the coming days.

Radhakrishna’s comments clearly suggest that both Naidu and KCR should work together and check BJP though he did not say this directly.

Radhakrishna says BJP finished TDP in Andhra Pradesh through Jagan and is now trying to finish TRS in Telangana by destablising TRS and also luring disgruntled leaders in TRS, Congress and TDP into its fold.

Radhakrishna says KCR already received a jolt from BJP in recent Lok Sabha polls which defeated his daughter Kavitha in Nizambad Lok Sabha seat and his close aide Vinod Kumar in Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat.

Radhakrisha says finally the target of BJP is to finish TDP and TRS in Telugu States and take both the Telugu states under BJP’s control by 2024 general elections.

In his column, Radhakrishna tried to bring KCR and Naidu together by demonising BJP.

He also tried to project YSRCP as an ally of BJP, which will act on the directions of Modi and Amit Shah.

No Takers for Srikanth Addala

Share

Director Srikanth Addala is seeing only rejections these days. Allu Arjun didn’t show interest to act in his new film. Then Sharwanand had rejected the story.

Now, Nani too has made it clear that he is not doing Srikanth Addala’s new film that is reportedly titled “Kuchipudi Vaari Veedhi”.

Srikanth Addala shot to fame with two back-to-back hits “Kotta Bangaru Lokam” and “Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu” but his third film “Brahmotsavam” brought his status down.

The film was a nightmare for everyone, for the producer, hero Mahesh Babu and as well for audiences.

The very thought of “Brahmotsavam” is scaring all heroes and are rejecting his new film though he has got backing of a very big production house Geetha Arts.

Srikanth Addala may now have to go with upcoming stars or newcomers. Or stars from mega family.

Has Suriya Lost Market in Telugu Totally?

Share

After ‘Ghazini’, Suriya became heartthrob for youngsters. People in Telugu land went gaga over him and made majority of his movies huge hits. His Singam/Yamudu movies too became a rage. However, all this is thing of the past.

In the last couple of years, his dubbed movies have lost prominence in AP and Telangana. His films continued to bomb at the box-office and the novelty factor is also missing in his movies that he is picking up. Hence, our Telugu audiences have lost interest in his movies.

His films once used to do business more than Rs 20 Cr in AP and Telangana. Now his market has crashed.

“NGK” which hit the screens last Friday did the pre-release business in the range of Rs 8 Cr. Making a profit on this amount has become a huge task for producer.

“Falaknuma Das” collected better than “NGK” in Nizam. While the former collected Rs 1.65 Cr in three days in Nizam, the latter received paltry Rs 1 Cr in Nizam in the first weekend.

Suriya’s market has crashed down totally. He is no longer considered as big star in Telugu as far as dubbed movie markets are concerned.

What is next? Pawan in a dilemma

Share

The recent elections to the assembly and parliament in Andhra Pradesh have come as an eye-opener for actor-turned-Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan.

The party had won just one seat – Razole in East Godavari district by a few hundred votes margin, that, too, not because of the craze for Pawan Kalyan but due to personal image of the candidate Rapaka Vara Prasad. It is only a matter of time that Vara Prasad takes a plunge into YSRC.

The Jana Sena lost deposits in as many as 120 seats out of 137 it had contested.

Pawan Kalyan himself had to bite the dust in both the constituencies he had contested – Bhimavaram and Gajuwaka.

His dream of entering the assembly to raise his voice on the issues of public concern was shattered.

Pawan seems to have realised that politics is not a child’s play nor is it a place for so-called values and principles.

He might have been proud for the sake of his own personal satisfaction that he had not fought the electoral battle by distributing money or selling tickets, but heart-in-hearts, he felt that there is no place for such ideals in politics.

The question is what Pawan will do now – whether he will go back into political oblivion for four years before waking up in the last year before the next elections or begin revamping of the party from grassroots level and build it up as an alternative to the YSRC by next five years.

The Jana Sena chief is holding a meeting of his party leaders at his office in Vijayawada on Monday to chalk out his future course of action.

Apparently, he wants to be in politics for another two decades, irrespective of whether the party wins or loses.

His first objective is to see that the Jana Sena wins at least a few hundred local bodies which are expected to go to polls by next month.

Depending on the outcome, he will come out with his action plan for the next five years, party sources said.

Athawale urges TRS, YSRCP to join NDA

Share

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale has appealed to the TRS and YSR Congress Party to join the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre in the interest of the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Athawale told reporters here on Sunday that Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party leader Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy should extend support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The leader of Republican Party of India (A) said though National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with 353 seats in Parliament required no support from any party, its doors were still open for those who want to join.

He said it will be in the interest of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh if the ruling parties of both states join the NDA.

“I want to tell KCR that there is no meaning in starting another ‘gathbandhan’,” he said referring to TRS chief’s plans to form a Federal Front.

Athawale advised Jagan Mohan Reddy not to repeat the mistake committed by his predecessor and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu. He said Naidu attacked Modi and left the NDA but people of Andhra Pradesh rejected him.

The Union minister said the NDA government would extend full support to Andhra Pradesh for its development.

Athawale said the opposition parties were indulging in a false propaganda against the NDA government that it was trying to change the Indian Constitution.

He claimed that there is no threat to the Constitution as the government remained committed to protect it.

He said the NDA was not against any community and it believed in carrying all sections of society with it.

Sai Reddy to become AP special rep in Delhi?

Share

YSR Congress party general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy, who has been eyes and ears of party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, is most likely to get a key position in New Delhi shortly.

According to sources, Jagan has decided to appoint Sai Reddy as the special representative of the Andhra Pradesh government in New Delhi, which is a cabinet rank post with all powers.

He would liaison between the state and centre, taking up issues of the state with the NDA government.

Sai Reddy had played a key role in building up a close relation between YSRC and BJP in the last one year.

He had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi several times and had been in regular touch with the PMO on various issues.

He also led several delegations of the YSRC to the Election Commission, President of India and other top Union ministry officials to represent against the TDP government and was instrumental in getting several IAS and IPS officers in Andhra Pradesh transferred before elections.

Apparently, Jagan thought there will be no better person than Sai Reddy to be in Delhi and sustain the relations between YSRC and BJP.

He can also constantly pursue issues like special category status and release of finances from the centre to the state from time to time.

In all probability, Sai Reddy’s appointment would be finalised by next week, sources said.

Economists fear of 2020 recession in US: Report

Share

Washington: America’s business leaders are growing more worried that the US will enter a recession by the end of 2020, mainly due to an increasingly protectionist trade policy, a report revealed on Monday.

The report by the National Association for Business Economics is based on responses by 53 economists, CNN reported. It comes as the US ratchets up its trade war with China and has gone after other major trading partners, including India and Mexico.

The report found what it called a “surge” in recession fears among the economists.

The risk of recession happening soon remains low but will “rise rapidly” next year. The survey’s respondents said the risk of recession starting in 2019 is only 15 per cent but 60 per cent by the end of 2020.

About a third of respondents forecast a recession will begin halfway through next year.

According to the survey, the median forecast for gross domestic product growth in the last quarter of 2020 was 1.9 per cent. That would be a big drop from the most recent estimate of current US economic growth – 3.1per cent in the first three months of 2019.

Fifty-six per cent of the respondents cited the increasingly protectionist trade policy as the greatest risk to the US economy in 2019. Separately, 88 per cent pointed to US trade policy, and retaliation by other nations, for why they lowered their GDP growth forecasts, the survey showed.

Meanwhile, 14 per cent believe a “substantial” decline in the stock market, and 10 per cent feel a slowdown in global growth, are the biggest risks to the US economy.

Business spending will moderate this year and next after growing a strong 6.9 per cent in 2018.

“Increased trade protectionism is considered the primary downwide risk to growth by a majority of the respondents,” CNN quoted Gregory Daco, chief US economist for Oxford Economics, as saying.

President Donald Trump has aggressively tried to reorder the US position on global trade. He has picked prominent fights with China and Europe.

It was announced on June 1 that Trump would end India’s $5.6 billion trade concessions under the Generalised Scheme of Preferences programme with effect from June 5.

Turkey was also stripped of its GSP trade concessions along with India.

On May 29, he announced punitive tariff hikes on imports from Mexico over its leniency towards immigrants from Central America.

Vishwak Sen Vs Vijay Deverakonda Fans!

Share

Vishwak Sen’s rude and uncivilized remarks against those who termed his film “Falaknuma Das” bad didn’t go well with anyone. The young actor is now on defensive mode.

Speaking to reporters in Vijayawada on Sunday, he said the video comment was not against movie critics or general public but against the fans of a particular star who are making ‘chichora’ things on social media.

Insiders say, Vishwak Sen believes that Vijay Deverakonda’s fans are jealous of his “rise” as star as he may pose competition to Vijay Deverakonda. He alleged that they tore the posters of Vishwak’s movie in Hyderabad.

Vijay Deverakonda is currently in France shooting for Kranthi Madhav’s film. How much truth lies in Vishwak’s belief we don’t know but this young actor is courting controversy to create some publicity to his movie.

Vijay Deverakonda established himself as a leading star after blockbusters “Arjun Reddy” and “Geetha Govindam”.

Why would he worry about Vishwak Sen who is hardly known to anyone?
