Expect the unexpected from Modi in Camelot 2.0

Share

New Delhi: With a gargantuan majority at his disposal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a huge gene pool to choose from and reward as he goes about appointing members to his new Camelot. However, with PM Modi, no one can second-guess him.

At the same time, speculation is rife in Delhi’s political circles on the composition of the new Cabinet.

For starters, one will have to look at the Big Four – members of the all important Cabinet Committee on Security. In the erstwhile Cabinet there were two women.

Apparently, former Rajasthan Chief MInister Vasundhara Raje may be sounded out for the External Affairs Ministry while giant killer Smriti Irani, who toppled Congress President Rahul Gandhi from his pocket borough of Amethi, may get the plum post of Raksha Mantri.

Many aspirations and ambitions have to be fulfilled while hard work and perseverance will need to be rewarded.

The PM may also be looking at certain technocrats to push his JAM policy where the tri-junction of Jan, Aadhar and Mobile meet. This has paid handsome dividends at the bottom of the pyramid and in more ways than one given a sense of liberation and purpose to rural women.

As such, one shouldn’t be surprised if there is a Make in India, Skill Development and other such nomenclatures in the new Cabinet.

Grapevine also indicates that NSA Ajit Doval may be one of the contenders for the Defence Minister’s job. He could even be sent to Washington as India’s ambassador to the US.

Adding a twist to the permutations and combinations, if BJP President Amit Shah is inducted into the Cabinet, he may get one of the most crucial portfolios out of three – Home, Defence or even Finance.

In whatever role the PM assigns him, he will be pushing the rollout agenda of the PM’s pet schemes aggressively. In the eventuality that he joins the Cabinet, given the nature of Indian polity where the country lurches from one election to another and the whirligig is more often than not year round; Dharmendra Pradhan or Bhupendra Yadav may get the nod for the party top job.

Health minister J.P. Nadda is another name doing the rounds. National General Secretary and a Rajya Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh, Nadda is known as a master strategist in his party. The party had given him charge of Uttar Pradesh in the recently concluded hustings. The party bagged 62 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats.

Meanwhile, Pradhan cut his teeth in the Bihar Lok Sabha elections 2014 and once again, this time in his home state Odisha. BJP’s vote share in the Lok Sabha polls in Odisha rose from about 21.9 per cent in 2014 to 38.37 per cent while the ruling BJD’s fell from 44.1 per cent in 2014 to 42.76 per cent.

BJP’s vote share in the Odisha Assembly polls also rose significantly from 18.2 per cent in 2014 to 32.5 per cent in 2019. An RSS member since his student days and a close confidant of both Modi and Shah, Pradhan is expected to play a bigger role in BJP.

Bhupendra Yadav is a Rajya Sabha member, but equally a powerful national general secretary. Fiercely private, like his mentor Amit Shah, Yadav keeps to the confines of the war room, a role that he relishes. Yadav had been the BJP election in-charge for Rajasthan in 2013, Jharkhand in 2014 and Bihar in 2015. While Bihar did not go the way the BJP would have liked, Yadav delivered results for his boss, Shah, in both Rajasthan and Jharkhand.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh may be retained in his present job, but if party President Amit Shah, who has played a monumental role in the BJP returning to power working ceaselessly and tirelessly to put the strategic tent poles in place, joins the Cabinet, the former party president may become the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, who served as the interim finance minister when Arun Jaitley was undergoing treatment, may step into his shoes.

However, other names are also doing the rounds for this post. Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad may be moved to a more prominent ministry after his win in Patna Sahib. He was a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and became a cabinet minister under Modi.

Nitin Gadkari had a number of ministries under him and is credited with most tangible work being done in those departments. He may continue with the work assigned to him.

Agriculture will be one of the focus areas and, there is a thinking that a technocrat like Ashok Gulati should be given the job to ameliorate the woes of agrarian India which appears to be in distress mode.

Telecom will have a new minister since Manoj Sinha is one of the prominent losers in the BJP. If Pradhan moves to head the party, then the energy portfolio comprising petroleum and natural gas will also see a new face. Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi may get a cabinet rank this time. He is the most prominent Muslim face in the Modi team.

Prakash Javdekar will also be given an important position — he served as HRD Minister in the old Council of Ministers.

With nearly 80 members in the previous Cabinet, lots of faces and names to fill the posts abound. Expect the infusion of new blood and representation to states where the BJP has done exceedingly well — Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and equal weight to the allies.

‘Stop Trolling Chandrababu Further’ – Naga Babu

Share

Artist-cum-politician Naga Babu, who contested from Narsapuram Parliament segment as Jana Sena candidate, runs his Youtube channel and offers his views as ‘Naa Ishtam’. Recently, the Mega brother congratulated AP Chief Minister elect YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and said that Jana Sena will come back to work on public issues very soon.

Freshly, he posted an interesting tweet advising the netizens to go soft on former AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu. Mega brother, who once criticized Balakrishna, Naidu and TDP, wanted the social media folks to leave Naidu who is now a disarmed man without no power. He added that further criticism on Chandrababu may seem like sadism.

Naga Babu tweeted: ‘Chandrababu is our ex-CM and now that he lost the election, it is incorrect to launch an attack on him. Criticising a person who’s in power is different and hitting at him when not in power shows our incapability. I think an opponent must be exempted if he’s disarmed. But, it’s a sadistic approach to troll him when he is not is power.’

While the unexpected suggestion from Naga Babu has surprised both Jana Sena and TDP fans, followers of YSRCP are taking a swipe at Naga Babu for taking potshots at Jagan when he was in opposition.

Ever since then, her craze kept multiplying. She is one of those rare actresses who could beat all the odds to stay on top of the game for nearly two decades.

Yesterday, Trisha had an online interaction session with her fans on Instagram. She answered a few questions asked by netizens like her beauty secrets and her upcoming projects. One fan asked about the relationship status of the actress to which she replied – ‘single but taken’. Another question on marriage made her reply – “Do it when it’s a want and not a need.”

Earlier, the actress got engaged to Chennai-based businessman Varun Manian and for some unknown reasons, the couple separated their paths. Trisha was also dating Tollywood star Rana Daggubati but they later parted ways after things didn’t work out between them.

There’s so much drama in elections: Rakul

Rakul’s upcoming flick, NGK is a political thriller. With Suriya in the lead role, this film is being directed by Selvaraghavan and will hit the theatres on May 31. During the film’s promotions, the actress has opened up about her views on the state of politics in the country right now.

While her interaction with media, Rakul said, “I have an idea what’s happening around. But, I feel very sad because there’s so much drama. It’s become like a TV serial with TRP ratings and so many people are fighting for it.” She also asked the new government to stop a divide and rule campaigning. Also, she believes that every state should get what it deserves and grow.

One journalist asked her if she would become a politician in future, she said, “A lot of my friends say that I put things into perspective and am very clear about things, but I don’t think I can be in politics. I am very straightforward and not cut out for the drama. I want to bring about a change, which I want to do individually.”

KRR Doing A ‘Lust Stories’

Share

Not technically he is coming up with his version of Bollywood film “Lust Stories”, but the veteran director K Raghavendra Rao has announced just something of sorts.

On the eve of legendary NTR’s birth anniversary today, Darsakendrudu announced that he will be starting work on his next direction venture. So what is the film anyway? apparently, KRR mentioned that the film will have three directors and three heroines, but ‘hero’ is not yet confirmed.

That means, KRR is making an anthology film in the lines of ‘Lust Stories’, where four directors including Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar directed four different stories for the same film. Maybe K Raghavendra Rao is joining hands with some of his struggling disciples to make a similar feat, says a source.

Well, if the experiment clicks, KRR will be back in business for sure, after he directed Om Namo Venkatesaya in 2017, while his last hit film seems to be 2006 released Sri Ramadasu.

Two Actress-MPs Trolled For Posing At Parliament

Share

Trinamool Congress, out of its 42 seats to Parliament, offered 17 of them to women this year. The party has nine female members, a 40% of the total number of women in the Parliament. Bengali actresses Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan who were elected as Trinamool Congress MPs from West Bengal posted pictures of their first day at the Parliament. Soon after, both of them were brutally trolled for posing in front of the Parliament.

They were also slammed for being dressed up on their first day as Members of Parliament. This is not the first time as the two ladies faced trolled back when their names were announced as Trinamool candidates over their credentials to contest elections. Mimi Chakraborty won from Jadavpur and Nusrat Jahan from Basirhat constituency. On the other hand, the picture uploaded by Nusrat too received quite a rebuke. One such user wrote in Bengali, “This is not a place for a photo shoot. This is a place where you should fight for the people’s rights and legislate for the country. You don’t belong here.”

While some were concerned over the ladies’ tattoos. We wonder if there is really any rule on how MPs or politicians supposed to dress. Being sanskari won’t make anyone a good politician. It all depends on what noble work they do instead of dressing sense to the Parliament. Moreover, every adult has a right to choose what they wear.

Buzz: Jagan Invites Chiru, But Not Pawan?

Share

By inviting TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu to his swearing-in ceremony, surely Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister designate YS Jagan has stunned political circles. Many thought that the YSR Congress president will invite only his political allies, but he seems to be inviting every biggie in Telugu states’ politics.

A report is now doing rounds that Jagan has invited Megastar Chiranjeevi as well over a phone call. Not many know that Jagan’s father late CM YSR is one of the responsible persons for Chiranjeevi’s decision to merge his Praja Rajyam Party in Congress. And it looks like Jagan has that positive rapport with Chiranjeevi since then. He is said to have called up Megastar to come to Vijayawada on May 30th to witness the oath ceremony.

On the other hand, whether Jagan has invited first-time election contestant Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan is yet to be known. Some sources indicated that after awarding massive defeat to both Naidu and Pawan in the recently concluded elections, Jagan actually wants all of them to be friends with him such that Andhra Pradesh state would get good governance. However, sources in AP government revealed that Pawan is not invited.

In the wake of Pawan awarded a defeat by Jagan, will Chiranjeevi still turn up at the oath ceremony?

‘NTR’s soul resting in peace after Naidu’s defeat’

YSR Congress party leader Lakshmi Parvathi faced a backlash at NTR Ghat. Lakshmi Parvathi reached the venue to pay tributes to NTR on his birth anniversary and after doing so, she spoke to the media. “NTR’s soul is now resting in peace with Chandrababu’s defeat in the elections,” said Lakshmi Parvathi.

However, NTR fans who were present there objected Lakshmi Parvathi’s comments. They told that this is not the place to speak on politics and it’s better to leave the venue. But Lakshmi Parvathi continued to talk on it and irritated by this NTR fans warned Lakshmi Parvathi to immediately stop talking about politics.

For a moment TDP supporters and Lakshmi Parvathi supporters were about to manhandle each other. But the situation got calm down automatically and then both the groups raised slogans ‘Jai NTR’ and ‘Jai Chandrababu’ at NTR Ghat.

Rahul Gandhi Is Very Serious On Resignation

Share

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is in no mood to continue in position of the party. He offered resignation to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) but the committee had rejected Rahul’s decision. However, the CWC did not take any decision on Rahul’s decision and reasons behind the party’s debacle in the elections.

Rahul on Monday met Ahmed Patel and general secretary KC Venugopal and insisted to accept his resignation. The Gandhi scion was also supposed to meet Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot but he cancelled it in the last minute owing to be upset of the poll results.

In 17 states, Congress party has failed to win the trust of people and this has made the governments in Rajasthan, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh fall in back seat. BJP is looking to take hold of Karnataka being the single largest party and there are similar scenes in MP as well. The most unsinkable thing is Rahul losing Amethi which is the Gandhi’s strong hold since three decades.

Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs of three states have tendered their resignation. Overall, the defeat in the general elections is shaking the Congress from grass root level. This is hardest phase of Congress ever since its existence and it has to come out quickly and learn from the mistakes.

With all the ways closing down for sacked TV9 CEO Ravi Prakash, he has now approached the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail. Ravi Prakash is facing three cases against filed by Alandha Media groups which have bought a major stake in TV9. Forgery, data theft and row over TV9 logo are the cases against Ravi Prakash.

Along with Ravi Prakash, actor Sivaji has also applied for anticipatory bail. Advocate Ahulwalia will be arguing before the court on behalf of Ravi Prakash

Jagan Mohan Reddy invites TDP chief for swearing-in

Share

Amaravati: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday invited TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu for his swearing-in ceremony.

Reddy called Naidu on the phone to invite him to the ceremony slated to be held on Thursday, TDP sources said.

Reddy was also learned to have sought the outgoing Chief Minister’s advise and suggestions for the state’s development.

The YSRCP chief is inviting leaders of various parties to the ceremony.

He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah in Delhi two days ago to extend an invitation. He earlier visited Hyderabad to invite Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

The YSRCP stormed to power by winning 151 seats in 175-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly last week.

All YSR favourites eager to join Jagan?

Share

It looks like several IAS and IPS officers who were calling shots during the regime of former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in the combined Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2009 are eager to join the government headed by his son and YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

The proposed appointment of senior IPS officer Stephen Ravindra as the state intelligence chief and continuation of L V Subrahmanyam as the chief secretary is a clear indication to the development.

While Ravindra served as superintendent of police in the Chief Minister’s Security wing during the YSR regime and is said to be closer to YSR family, Subrahmanyam held key positions in YSR government and was one of the accused in the Emaar Properties scandal that surfaced during the period.

Ravindra reportedly met Jagan well before the election results and expressed his desire to serve him.

Accordingly, soon after the results were declared, Jagan decided to appoint Stephen Ravindra as his intelligence chief, by requesting Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to relieve him and send him to AP on deputation.

The latest information is that senior IPS officer Sri Lakshmi also reportedly wrote to the Telangana government to relieve her and send her on deputation to Andhra Pradesh.

Sri Lakshmi was also once closer to YSR and faced allegations of helping Jagan’s friend Gali Janardhan Reddy in the Obulapuram mining scandal.

If the reports are to be believed, even senior IAS officer B P Acharya is keen on coming to Andhra Pradesh on deputation. Acharya was also involved in the alleged quid pro quo deal case filed against Jagan.

Similarly, another senior official N V Ramana Reddy, who was Secretary (Protocol) during YSR regime, is also learnt to have met Jagan and expressed his interest to join the AP government.

Another Indian Information Services officer N Venudhar Reddy, who was looking after the Information wing of the YSR government in Delhi, is expected to join the Jagan government as Information Commissioner.

Senior police officials Gautam Sawang, A K Meena and P S R Anjaneyulu, who were believed to be close confidants of YSR, are also going to adorn key positions in Jagan government, sources said.

Naidu looks pale at NTR birthday fete!

Share

For the first time, the birthday celebrations of Telugu Desam Party founder and former chief minister N T Rama Rao were held in a completely lack-lustred manner on Tuesday, as the party faced humiliating defeat in the just concluded assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

After a gap of five days, Naidu surfaced in public at the TDP headquarters in Guntur to pay homage to his father-in-law.

Though hundreds of TDP workers attended the celebrations, the euphoria among them was glaringly missing as they looked dejected over the defeat of the party.

Naidu himself looked very pale and dull, as he garlanded the statue of NTR and addressed the party workers briefly.

The fire in his voice was missing as he made a routine address saying the party had strength and workers have the moral courage to withstand the turbulence.

“The TDP workers had made immense sacrifices. We did our best to provide good governance to the state and took up the development and welfare programmes. NTR should be an inspiration to us. He did not lose courage despite facing several setbacks. We should learnt from his experiences and play a constructive role in the opposition,” Naidu said.

He further said he would be available to party leaders and cadre at Guntur office from Wednesday.

He said he would spend at least three hours in Guntur party office and monitor party affairs regularly.

NTR’s grandson and former minister Nara Lokesh also participated in the programme along with TDP state president Kala Venkatrao, senior leaders Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Prattipati Pulla Rao and Nakka Ananda Babu.

What’s The Future Of Polavaram Project?

Share

After winning with a thumping majority in Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections, YSR Congress Chief Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi recently is said to have discussed about the Polavaram project in detail.

According to sources, it is learnt that Jagan has asked the Centre to take over rest of the project while he expressed that the debt-ridden state will not involve in the project anymore. Apparently, he has also instructed IAS officers to inform Navayuga Company to withdraw from executing the project. Navayuga has taken over the Polavaram Project after discrepancies were reported when the work was being executed by Transtroy under the previous government.

There is information that Navayuga is very upset with this decision of Jagan and is believed to be mulling other action plans before it takes a call. Meanwhile, Jagan has made it clear that with such huge debt already reeling on his shoulders as he is yet to take over as the CM of AP, he may not be able to execute the national project and hence, is believed to have informed the PM about it.

Political observers say that this could be a good move as the state is already out of money and flushing more money into the project when the Centre is already funding it, is not a good idea at this time. Additionally, it will also reduce the state’s financial burden. However, his critics have been saying that if the project is stalled, then Rayalaseema will continue to be under severe drought conditions. Well, we are yet to see the repercussions of this move.
