Top 5 Telugu Box office this week

1) Maharshi: Maharshi has taken the Telugu box office by storm. The film has posted superb collections in its first weekend irrespective of the word of mouth. However, it should hold well from Monday to recover the high costs.

It’s nett collection in India has surpassed Rs. 300 crore, a phenomenal feat.
3) Student of the Year 2: Pre release buzz around Student of the year 2 helped to generate good revenues in its first weekend.
But the word of mouth is largely negative, which is likely to take a toll on its collections in the coming days.
4) Jersey: Hit film Jersey is still doing well in A centers. It is drawing good attendance across multiplexes although the show counts have been reduced to bare minimum.
5) Key: Key had a low key release in Telugu states amid Maharshi mania and has failed to get a a half-decent start.
KCR meeting with Stalin not fruitful?
The much-hyped meeting between Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M K Stalin is understood to have failed to yield any results.
While TRS sources said the meeting which lasted over an hour and a half went on well in a cordial manner, a curt statement from the DMK simply said: “Party president MK Stalin had a courtesy meeting with Telangana CM K Chandrasekar Rao at his residence.”
According to sources in Chennai, the DMK chief did not evince much interest in the proposal made by KCR for formation of a federal front with all regional parties to form the next government at the Centre.
Stalin reportedly told KCR categorically that his party would not be in a position to come out of the Congress alliance. Moreover, it was DMK which proposed the name of Rahul Gandhi for the Prime Minister post.
Interestingly, DMK chief tried to persuade the Telangana chief minister to join the Congress alliance and help Rahul Gandhi to become the Prime Minister. This has not gone down well with KCR, it is learnt.
However, the TRS chief proposed that let all the regional parties form a federal front and extend support to the government formation from outside, irrespective of who will form the government.
He reminded that many other parties like TRS had fought against the Congress in the elections.
Stalin, however, said his party was firm on its anti-BJP stand and so, there is no question of any front that supported the BJP. He will join hands with other parties only if the coalition comprises the Congress.

For The First Time, CS Meets Chandrababu
It is well known that there were differences and clashes between AP CM Chandrababu Naidu and Chief Secretary LV Subramanyam. While Naidu had expressed displeasure over LV Subramanyam and over his functionary, the meeting of Naidu and LV Subramanyam had gained a lot of political significance. LV Subramanyam has met Naidu today morning at 7.40 AM.
Chief Secretary LV Subramanyam told Chandrababu Naidu that the permission from the Election Commission is due to hold the Cabinet meeting. CS told Naidu that EC’s decision on Cabinet Meet and Agenda would come by today.
Naidu wants to call for a cabinet meeting on May 14th evening over the burning issues like Cyclone Fani, Drought, Drinking Water issues. Along with the CS, the secretaries of concerned departments would participate in the cabinet meeting.

After Fani, Odisha demands special category status
From last 5 years, bifurcated Andhra Pradesh is fighting with centre to gain the special category status to have a speedy development and race like rest of the states in the nation. And demand for ‘special status’ already exists in states like Bihar, Uttarakhand, Odisha and some states of North India.
But, the kind of damage done by Cyclone Fani in the recent past has made Odisha CM to press for the special status demand again. The CM of state Naveen Patnaik sought an assistance from centre in view of continuous cyclone storms every year- Phailin, HudHud, Thitli and Fani now. The chief of BJD appeals centre to consider plight of Odisha, as these cyclones have heavily damaged state.
According to him, the relief assistance offered by centre is of very little use and those funds are not fully sufficient to bring state back into normalcy. In the end, it is state govt financing relief work every time and it is burning a big hole to state’s budget. Eventually, the state cannot focus on delivering government schemes promised to the people.
PM’s Modi announced 1000 Cr for relief work of Cyclone Fani, but these funds are insufficient for restoration work, according to Patnaik who also said he would reach out to world bank for further financial aid.
Highlighting that an insurance firm estimated the loss by Cyclone Fani could be at Rs 3500 Cr, Odisha CM demanded centre to announce the special category status tag to their state. With an existing and intense demand from AP already, it remains to be seen how this request will be taken up by the centre. If Naveen Patnaik becomes part of the new government in Delhi, if would further make chances of AP special status demand meagre.
Dear PM, Anjaiah is not a Dalit!
Over the past few days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been on a spree of giving interviews to the national media. In one such interview with a mainstream newspaper, Modi answered a question about bringing down the dignity of the PM’s position and respect quoting the example of former CM of Andhra Pradesh T. Anjaiah. In the interview to the newspaper while attacking the Congress, Modi said if we speak of respect for the post, then it’s the same for everyone.
“It is true for (former PM Manmohan Singh) whose government’s order, was torn in public (by Rahul Gandhi). If you are speaking of respect for the post, then what about former Andhra CM Anjaiah-ji, a Dalit, who was humiliated in Hyderabad airport (by former PM Rajiv Gandhi). So anyone complaining now has to see the whole thing in perspective,” he said. However, his false statements have not gone down well with the family members of Anjaiah.
The Prime Minister, at various occasions, has been calling Anjaiah a Dalit while he is actually an OC. His real name is Talla Ramakrishna Reddy and his grandson has told mediapersons that his family will soon write to the Prime Minister’s Office over unnecessarily usage of Anjaiah’s name and misquoting his caste for BJP’s political gimmicks. He also opined that a Prime Minister being misinformed about a CM and using the incident at Begumpet airport for his political mileage is unfortunate.
Netizens have been fuming over such blatant misquoting of facts by the PM, ever since he made those statements. Looks like Modi needs a serious fact-checker at the PMO!
