Why Jagan’s covert should report to Naidu?

Share

The cold war between Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and Andhra Pradesh chief secretary L V Subrahmanyam has reached its peak with the latter skipping the official meeting of Naidu called to review the impact of super cyclone Fani.

It appears to be more of an ego clash between the two, rather than any official confrontation. Had the relation been smooth, Subrahmanyam attending Naidu’s review meeting should not have been an issue at all, say political observers.

It is only Naidu who has to be blamed for this ugly situation. When the Election Commission shifted senior IAS officer Anil Kumar Punetha from the post of chief secretary and replaced him with Subrahmanyam, the senior most IAS officer, Naidu made a hue and cry as if it was the biggest crime.

Even that is okay, considering Naidu’s grudge against the EC for shifting the intelligence chief and two SPs prior to that. But the way he made serious comments against Subrahmanyam led to the actual problem.

He described Subrahmanyam as a covert of the YSR Congress party and a co-accused in YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s case.

Naturally, it has angered Subrahmanyam. Unlike Naidu, the chief secretary did not utter any word against Naidu, except to tell the media that in the wake of model code of conduct being in force, the chief minister would not have the regular powers.

However, he has not been attending any meetings called by Naidu, for the simple reason that Naidu cannot hold meetings when the poll code is on.

It is not that Naidu does not know this. Yet, he wanted Subrahmanyam to report to him, because it satisfies his ego.

Though the chief secretary can meet the chief minister as a matter of courtesy as has been the case with all the other states, but Subrahmanyam also has his own ego.

He is of the view why he should go and meet Naidu who had called him Jagan’s covert and a co-accused in the case. So, citing the rule position, he is not caring the chief minister.

Now, Naidu is threatening to take action against Subrahmanyam under business rules. He said he would convene a cabinet meeting next week and would take action if any bureaucrat failed to attend.

But the question is who would prepare the agenda for the cabinet meeting and who would put up the note files?

It is the chief secretary and Subrahmanyam won’t do it as no official policy decisions could be taken due to election code.

So, Naidu has to convene the cabinet meeting without any official agenda. In such a case, the officials cannot attend such a meeting and Subrahmanyam will skip it again.

It remains to be seen what action Naidu would take and who would implement his directions.

The Hollywood superhero film has surely dented the business of local films right from its day 1.

Jersey and Kanchana 3 withstood the Avengers storm and have held their ground in the second week. Both the films have been doing steady business in their respective strong circuits.

Jersey continued to do better in A centers while Kanchana 3 held well in B and C centers. Both the films are commercial hits in terms of box office returns.

There are no notable releases in this weekend as Mahesh’s big ticket film Maharshi is lined up for next weekend.

It is the last week for Jersey, Kanchana and Avengers to cash in on before Maharshi takes over the summer box office.

Zuckerberg vs Sharma: WhatsApp Pay can gobble up Paytm

Share

When Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on April 24 that the company is actively working on to launch WhatsApp Pay in India, the message was clear to the digital payments leader in the country: Brace for the landfall.

The country’s digital payments industry — estimated to hit $1 trillion by 2023 — is going to witness a seismic change this year with global players joining the bandwagon, creating flutters among the existing players, including Alibaba-backed Paytm which rules the market.

Amazon just announced the launch of Amazon Pay UPI for Android customers in the peer-to-peer (P2P) transaction market.

Google Pay has also strengthened its presence — over 45 million users with recording $81 billion in transactions (at an annualised run-rate) in March.Apple Pay would also arrive and with the lowering of iPhone prices in India, the service which has 390 million paid subscriptions globally and on track to reach 10 billion transactions — would reach more hands.

WhatsApp Pay, however, is going to be the real game changer — for a simple reason that it has the capability to become the top player in the Indian digital payments market with the word go.

WhatsApp currently has over 300 million users in India (Facebook has another 300 million in the country) and once it starts peer-to-peer (P2P) UPI-based payments service, the sheer numbers will take it beyond Paytm which last reported over 230 million users.

“Indians love WhatsApp, and will love the convenience of transacting through the app. I foresee a trend wherein entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises start embracing and using WhatsApp Pay,” Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR, told IANS.

“This will contribute to, and increase their creditworthiness. In turn, this trend will enable them to easily borrow credit from formal sources, such as banks,” Ram added.

Paytm Founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma is aware that fierce global competition is coming his way.

Sharma last year launched a Twitter attack on WhatsApp’s parent company Facebook.

“After failing to win war against India’s open internet with cheap tricks of free basics, Facebook is again in play,” Sharma had tweeted.According to WhatsApp, almost one million people tested WhatsApp Pay to send money to each other in a simple and secure way.

“In response to India’s payments data circular, we’ve built a system that stores payments-related data locally in India,” a WhatsApp spokesperson had told IANS.”WhatsApp Payment is useful for people in their daily lives and we hope to expand the feature to all of India soon so we can contribute to the country’s financial inclusion goals,” the spokesperson added.

The company on May 3 told the Supreme Court that it would comply with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) data localisation norms before launching the full payments service in the country.According to Pavel Naiya, Senior Analyst, Devices and Ecosystem at Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Research, WhatsApp Pay will become an instant threat for products like Paytm Wallet and others who are using UPI as a method of transaction.

“With the huge user base, WhatsApp Pay is already a good match to become a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) platform for real-time payment,” Naiya told IANS.The entry of WhatApp Pay will give a significantly more positive and viral impetus to India’s digital economy.

“The rapid adoption of digital payments in India will be driven by WhatsApp, riding on its vast user base and strong vernacular language focus,” added Ram.Zuckerberg would finally merge all his platforms and the enormous user base would create a natural winner

“In Instagram and Facebook, you have shopping and you have Marketplace, and you have all the tens of millions of small businesses that use Pages and a lot use Instagram for sharing their inventory and being able to help people discover and pay,” the Facebook CEO told analysts during the earnings call.

According to Naiya, with Facebook and Instagram’s platform support, “WhatsApp Pay is likely to further extend beyond P2P platform to become a payment gateway for the company’s social commerce in the future”.The die is cast. It is only matter of time when the Indian digital payments market sees a new leader.

Bigg Boss Beauty’s Unwanted Hungama At Coffee Shop

Share

Though this hottie acted as a heroine in a few films, she was not noticed by anyone in the Telugu film industry. But #BiggBoss2 has changed her image we have to say as many came to know about her, especially for a couple of peculiarities.

Other day this hottie has come to a coffee shop on the main road of the famous Sri Nagar Colony in Hyderabad. And then, she took a huge class to the security and other staff at the coffee shop about the way they should deal the parking at the premises. She got hurt because her car got stuck in the parking and she’s able to take it out only after two more cars are moved.

In the first place, finding enough parking place in the busy bylanes of Srinagar COlony is quite difficult. Onlookers felt that maybe she should go to more posh and upscale hangout places in Jubilee Hills to get ample parking space and also valet parking. But creating a scene at a small-time coffee shop isn’t a worthy thing.

Some celebs do think that their celebrity status makes them professors of ethics and teachers of moral responsibilities. Isn’t it?

Defectors will face slipper slap: Congress leader

Share

Congress working president Ponnam Prabhakar recently made it to headlines by coming up with an affidavit promise that he will stick to Congress party and will not leave it. Now as a working president he is asking candidates who are contesting in the ZPTC and MPTC elections to come up with similar document.

Ponnam is aggressively campaigning for Congress candidates in various villages of Karimnagar and at a village he made controversial remarks. He said, ”Leaders who have contested on Congress symbol and joined other parties have no self-respect. Win or loss, leaders should stick to their respective political parties and defections should be not encouraged. Congress leaders who will join other parties after local body elections, will face slipper slap under section 406.”

Then Ponnam said the TRS government is threatening politicians if they are questioning the government. ”We should force TRS government to implement its promises and for the Congress party should win the ZPTC and MPTC. If not there will be no one to question the government and it will administrate as per it’s wish,” added the former Karimnagar MP.

The lone Congressman opposing Chandrababu

Share

Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP K.V. P Ramachandra Rao seems to be the lone ranger opposing AP Chief Minister and TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, following the party’s alliance with the grand-old party at the national level. Though TDP and Congress have not tied up in the state, they have been on friendly terms. But, KVP has always maintained his stand against Chandrababu.

In his attack on the TDP chief, KVP wrote an open letter alleging that Chandrababu Naidu is creating immense loss for the people of AP regarding the Polavaram Project. On one hand, for his political gains and selfish reasons, he made an alliance with the NDA government. Now, again, he walked out of it, without getting any promises fulfilled, he mentioned in the letter.

Additionally, he also said that Chandrababu’s governance has been a failure as none of the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 have been fulfilled by the Centre. Stating that Congress is committed to giving Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, he said that TDP’s change of stands depending on its convenience has been a big blow to the people of AP, who are feeling cheated duo to Chandrababu.

KVP’s comments have been surprising Congress leaders as most of them have stopped making anti-TDP statements after both the parties have struck an alliance at the national level. With KVP being known as the closest man to late CM of AP, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, he is still the sole Congressman to be fighting against Naidu and keeping his rivalry alive.
