Box Office Busy: Tamanna Sidelined
Milky siren Tamanna Bhatia who has films like Queen remake ‘That is Mahalakshmi’ and Abhinetri sequel ‘Abhinetri 2’ is actually struggling to get her films released. And here’s the latest punch she got from the box office.
Apparently, her Abhinetri 2, featuring Prabhudeva in the lead was shot and set for May 1st release. But suddenly the back to back successes of films like Majili, Chitralahari and Jersey has filled Telugu theatres completely. And with the arrival of the Avengers, there is no place for any other film to release now as the position of everyone is already choked.
Tamanna’s producers of Abhinetri 2 thought that they will make the most at the box office before Maharshi hits cinemas on May 9th. But lack of theatres has forced them to give up the May 1st date and the film is postponed indefinitely now.
We hear that if Maharshi turns a blockbuster, then many films are likely to drop from the Summer race as not many theatres will be available for any film’s release then.
Rumours Are Ready – Nandamuri Heir Not Ready
From a long time, there are always rumours that Nandamuri Balakrishna’s son Mokshagna is making his debut into Telugu films as a leading man. But there are only rumours all the time around so far, and the reality of them is far from the actual.
Recently another rumour has popped that Balayya has decided not to do Boyapati’s film because he wants the director to launch his son Mokshagna first. However, there seems to be no iota of truth in this, as we see that the Nandamuri heir is not at all ready for the silver screen debut.
Though Mokshagna is taking training in acting and dances, he’s yet to lose weight and plump looks are a big no for heroes these days. With upcoming youngsters like Akhil, Karthikeya Reddy, Bellamkonda Srinivas and other industry kids flaunting their 6-pack bodies, surely Mokshagna has to do a similar feat.
And then, it might easily take another year for the Nandamuri hero to get ready for the silver screen debut, forget about the director who launches him.
Telangana village rocked by rape, murder of 3 girls
Hyderabad: A day after bodies of two girls raped and murdered were recovered from a Telangana village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, police on Tuesday began search for the skeletal remains of a third girl also raped and murdered by the same man.
Following violent protests, police was forced to launch fresh probe into all the cases of missing girls from the nearby villages.
Hajipur village was rocked by the sensational revelations that the 27-year-old accused of rape and murder of a girl last week has been involved in a series of such offences over last four years.
Srinivas Reddy, who was in police custody, allegedly raped and killed at least three girls and dumped the bodies of two of them in a dry abandoned well on a land owned by him near the village.
The gruesome details came to light during the investigations into the rape and murder of a Class 10 student.
The 14-year-old victim from Hajipur had gone missing while returning home from her school in Keesara on April 25. The next day police found her bag near the well and her body was found inside the well.
While retrieving her body from the well on Monday, police found skeletal remains of another girl. Investigations revealed that the skeletal remains were of an 18-year-old, who had gone missing since April.
The accused allegedly raped and killed her and later dumped her body in the well.
As the news spread, family of an 11-year-old, who was missing since 2015, approached the police.
The girl from Mysireddypally village had gone missing from Hajipur where she had gone to meet her aunt.
Following Reddy’s interrogation, the police then launched a search for third victim’s skeletal remains in another abandoned well in the same area.
Angry villagers on Tuesday attacked and set ablaze Srinivas Reddy’s house. His family members had already fled from the village.
As tension mounted with the protests demanding stringent punishment to the accused, additional police forces were rushed to the village.
Collector Anita Ramchandran also visited the village and took stock of the situation.
The police also began a fresh probe into cases of missing girls from surrounding villages.
The preliminary investigations also revealed that the accused, a lift mechanic, was also involved in the murder of a woman in Kurnool town of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh in 2016.
According to the police, after killing the woman he had dumped her body in an overhead water tank adjacent to a penthouse, where he was residing on rent.
No party bias for CBI, IT in conducting raids!
All these days, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had been crying from roof tops that the central agencies have been targeting only his party leaders in bid to attack their morale and project them as villains before the people.
But the Tuesday’s raids by the Central Bureau of Investigation and Income Tax authorities on the houses and offices of YSR Congress party leader Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju nailed Naidu’s allegations.
When it comes to misappropriation of funds, the central agencies have proved that they have no bias towards or against any political party.
The CBI and IT officials raided the houses of Raghurama Krishnam Raju both in Hyderabad and West Godavari.
Raju contested on YSRC ticket from Narsarpuram parliamentary constituency and is also an industrialist.
The raids began early in the morning on Raju’s house at Boulder Hills of Emaar Properties at Gachibowli.
Though it is not known whether the CBI was acting on any complaint from any political rival, but the authorities conducted thorough searches on the house to seize several documents.
There have been allegations that Raghurama Krishna Raju’s companies had defaulted loans taken from different banks.
Apparently, one of the banks might have lodged the complaint against him that led to the raids by CBI.
According to sources, CBI and IT officials from Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru are conducting the raids allegedly on the evasion of Bank loans by his companies.
Sujana Desperate To Avoid Arrest!
Former Union minister of state for science and technology and Telugu Desam Party’s Rajya Sabha member Y S Chowdary alias Sujana Chowdary is making all out efforts to see that he does not get arrested in the money laundering and loan default cases.
Sujana was supposed to attend the CBI office in Bengaluru on Saturday, but he conveniently avoided the same and kept the authorities waiting.
In the meantime, he moved the Telangana High court questioning the issuance of summons by the Central Bureau of Investigation for questioning with regard to the bank fraud case.
Sujana argued before the court that he was no way connected with the day to day activities of his industrial group, as he was not even an executive or non-executive director on the boards of these companies.
So, he cannot be held responsible for the acts of omission and commission of his group companies.
Last week the CBI asked him to appear before the investigation at Bengaluru office in the connection with Rs 71 crore loan default case of Andhra Bank involving Best & Crompton Engineering Projects, one of the group companies of Sujaja Industries.
The Bengaluru unit of CBI has registered three FIRs based on complaints from three banks.
The company has allegedly obtained loans from Central Bank of India (Rs 133 crore), Andhra Bank (Rs 71 crore) and Corporation Bank (Rs 159 crore) through fraud accounts and by submitting false statements.
Sujana said that he was neither a shareholder nor a director in the company. He argued that the summons should not be considered as valid as the Bengaluru CBI jurisdiction doesn’t come into AP.
Settlement of Dues for Devadas Begin
Ashwini Dutt produced Nani and Nagarjuna starrer “Devadas” is creating hurdles for the release of Mahesh Babu’s “Maharshi” which is scheduled for May 9.
Some distributors have lodged complaints against Ashwini Dutt in film chamber and have issued red card against “Maharshi”.
Sensing the danger bells, now Ashwini Dutt is trying to sort out the issue.
The senior producer took heavy advances from the distributors of last year’s “Devadas”. He reportedly had taken more money than the market value of Nani from the distributors of each area.
However, the film turned out to be just an average grosser. Ashwini Dutt didn’t return the money to the distributors.
He has to repay them with interest. As he came to know that if he doesn’t repay immediately, “Maharshi” might not see release in Andhra and Telangana.
So, Ashwini Dutt and his daughter Swapna have asked the distributors to come to their office in Hyderabad to settle the matter. How he resolves the issue has to be seen.
Hyderabad student kills self over JEE failure
Hyderabad: A 17-year-old student allegedly committed suicide here on Tuesday by shooting himself over his failure to crack the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains test, police said.
This comes just days after 20 students ended their lives following a goof-up in their intermediate examination results.
Sahil allegedly used the pistol of his father, a retired army jawan, to kill himself at his house in the Neredmet neighbourhood in the early hours of the day.
The student took coaching at Aakash Institute for the JEE test but he failed to qualify. The JEE results were announced on Monday.
Sahil’s father had scolded him for failing the exam and for not concentrating on his studies. Depressed over his failure and the scolding from his father, Sahil is suspected to have taken the extreme step.
The police are questioning Sahil’s father, Meheruddin, who is currently working as a security guard at a bank.
Is This Telangana CM’s Return Gift To Students?
The suicides following a massive goof-up in evaluation of intermediate students’ results has caused a widespread stir and protests across Telangana. With parents and students taking to the streets, demanding accountability from the Telangana Intermediate Board as well as the Government, there has been news that Globarena’s contract still remains as is.
However, today police had to lathicharge Jana Sena Party activists and student organisations’ members who took part in a protest, shouting slogans against the government. Clearly, in the whole episode, the government has not taken enough accountability and has displayed laxity, with respect to suicides as well as the results fiasco. However, political parties too jumped at the opportunity and began playing the blame game.
Parents have been upset with the fact that the ruling party (TRS) had used student power at the peak of the Telangana movement but isn’t coming forward now to save the careers and future of this very community that has stood by the leaders then. On one hand, it is unfortunate that the whole episode also throws light on how students are unable to accept failure and restoring to the extreme step.
But, it is also exposes the ugly side of our education system’s focus on marks-based assessment and how they decide students’ future. However, the lack of responsibility from the government’s side has drawn severe criticism and many are questioning whether this is what ‘Bangaru Telangana’ was all about for the students who were a crucial part of the movement and whether this is the CM’s return gift to students who gave up their lives for the formation of a separate state.
Huge Bettings On YSRCP’s Count in West Godavari
With just 25 days remaining for the poll results to be out, people are seen discussing about the same everywhere in Andhra Pradesh. Betting has also been rampant since April 11, after the polling was held. Irrespective of who would emerge victorious, YSR Congress sympathisers seem to be a step ahead of the Telugu Desam Party men, with regard to betting. While YSRCP activists are coming out with innovative ways of betting, the TDP men are way behind them.
In West Godavari district, the stronghold of the Telugu Desam Party, betting from the constituency-level to the state-level is rampant. With exit polls going in favour of the YSR Congress, party sympathisers are betting heavy amounts. YSRCP sympathisers, belonging to Nellore district, are also betting that the party would win 10 Assembly seats in West Godavari.
In 2014, the TDP won made a clean sweep winning all the 15 Assembly seats in the district. Now, it is being predicted that the YSRC would win 10 seats in West Godavari and that the TDP would be restricted to 4 seats. In Bhimavaram, it is being believed that either the Jana Sena or the YSRC would emerge victorious.
It is being predicted that the YSRCP will win 8 seats in West Godavari. YCP sympathisers, with the help of their acquaintances and brokers in West Godavari, are betting heavily, to the tune of crores of rupees, in West Godavari district, which is sending jitters to the TDP.
On the other hand, the TDP too is confident that it would win 10 seats in WG district, overcoming all the conspiracies being hatched by the Opposition parties. Even those who say that the TDP’s count would come down are estimating that the party would win at least 8 seats in the district.
Centre Issues Notice to Rahul Gandhi on citizenship row
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has served notices to Congress President Rahul Gandhi on his citizenship. There were many rumours that Rahul Gandhi also holds British citizenship but none of them got a clarification from the Congress president himself.
It is BJP’s controversial MP Dr Subramanian Swamy who lodged a complaint against Rahul’s citizenship and also listed out the evidence. A company by name Backops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in the year 2003, with address 51 Southgate Street, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9EH and Rahul is one of directors of the company.
The MHA sought Rahul’s reply within 15 days and if failed to do so an appropriate action would be taken against him. If Rahul doesn’t reply, he might be declared as an ineligible candidate to fight the elections.
Reacting to this notice, Congress said it is politically motivated. “BJP knows that it is losing the elections and so it is indulging in cheap tricks and silly politics. Rahul Gandhi will answer to the notices legally,” said Congress official spokesperson Sanjay Jha.
