‘Jagananna ki thoduga’ – Top Spender on FB Ads

With Lok Sabha elections still due in some states while others have completed them, political parties spending in the month of April shot up drastically, according to Facebook Ad Library. Interestingly, Bharatiya Janata Party led the charts across India in spending on Facebook and Instagram, with the cost standing at Rs. 1.3 crore for 30 days, while the Congress party spent, nearly half that of its rival, at Rs. 56.69 lakh.

Surprisingly, Andhra Pradesh’s political parties are top spenders on Facebook Ads among the regional parties while Naveen Patnaik, Chief of Biju Janata Dal of Odisha, leads the charts. Even Kerala’s LDF page was among the top spenders. Both Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the YSR Congress lead the regional spenders table. Pages giving a boost to the YSR Congress was the ”Indian Political Action Committee” (I-PAC) and ”Jagananna ki thoduga” which was one of the top spenders while another page ”AP with CBN” also was boosting TDP’s presence.

According to the data, the Bharatiya Janata Party spent Rs. 44.32 lakh until April 20. Across the platform, total amount of Rs. 7 crore was spent by various political parties for just 20 days in April, while that between February and March stood at Rs. 10 crore. Meanwhile, the data mentioned that supporters and followers of these parties are the ones who spend the most.

For instance: Pro-BJP pages such as Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat (Rs. 2.23 crore), My First Vote For Modi (Rs 1.08 crore) and Nation with NaMo (Rs 1.20 crore) among others, spent higher than the Congress party’s total spending in the last 30 days.

Has TDP leader helped Roja in Nagari?

There are doubts on one dissident Telugu Desam Party leader helping the rival YSR Congress so as to weaken the TDP in Nagari Assembly constituency. The growing dissidence in the party might spell doom for the party in this constituency, if information from sources is to be believed.

There are rumours that the TDP activists of the dissident leader ensured that the some of the voters cast their valuable vote to the Opposition YSR Congress in Nagari. TDP senior leader late Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu’s son Gali Bhanu Prakash contested as the party candidate from Nagari against YSRC candidate Roja. There is talk that one section of the TDP had betrayed Bhanu Prakash, following differences over allocation of the party ticket.

Nagari had caused enough headache to the party chief from the day the poll notification was released. According to sources, Prakash’s younger brother Gali Jagadish appealed to the TD party chief not to give the ticket to his brother. He asked Naidu to give the ticket to him but Prakash claimed that his father had declared him to be his political successor. Even Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu’s wife and MLC Saraswati too lobbied for Jagadish but Naidu counselled them and finally, gave the ticket to Bhanu Prakash.

There are allegations that some TDP leaders in the constituency had facilitated the party leaders to switch loyalty to the YSR Congress, just before the elections. Also, the dissident TDP group even extended financial support to YSRC candidate Roja during campaigning.

However, the TD activists believe that Bhanu Prakash put up a stiff competition to Roja. It is learnt that Bhanu Prakash and other key leaders in the constituency complained about the dissident leader’s activities to the party supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu during his meeting with party leaders in Chittoor district.

And then, the over the top branding of this product has already created unwanted talk around the movie, which they fear about now. It has given a feeling that whenever there is no material inside, this particular big hero’s films are getting excessively branded and hyped.

All said and done, there are many films that got flop talk from the editing table but went well with the audiences. Hope the film bursts makers into happiness rather than bombing them with pain.

New Andhra CS digging out old files?

Senior IAS officer L V Subrahmanyam, who has been appointed as the chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh government by the Election Commission during the interim period till the election process is completed, is said to be asserting his position.

Subrahmanyam, known to be a straightforward officer, replaced Anil Kumar Punetha, who was cherry-picked by Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu last year, ignoring seniority norms.

And when the EC appointed Subrahmanyam as the chief secretary, Naidu fretted and fumed at the EC and questioned his appointment on the ground that he was a covert of the YSR Congress party and a co-accused in the Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s disproportionate assets case.

Naturally, Subrahmanyam was hurt at the allegations hurled against him but remained calm and quiet. But, within a couple of days of assuming charge, he started showing what kind of tough nut he is.

He has refused to attend the meetings called by the chief minister and during the elections, he acted in his own style without bothering about the criticism.

He ordered an inquiry into the allegations of irregularities in the transport of gold belonging to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) from Chennai to Tirupati.

He reportedly called for all the files pertaining to release of funds to various contractors just before the elections for various works, forcing finance secretary M Ravichandra to go on leave.

Subrahmanyam is also understood to have ordered all the other departments, including panchayat raj, municipal administration, energy etc, to furnish the details of their monetary transactions done in the last few weeks.

He is digging out all the old files and GOs to find out whether there were any out-of-turn favours done by the Naidu government.

“He is keeping all the dossiers ready on Naidu for the alleged illegal monetary benefits given to several people. Once the new government takes charge, these dossiers would be used to create troubles for Naidu,” an official source said.

These MLAs have no shame at all!

Yet another Telangana Congress MLA announced that he is defecting to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi, taking the overall number of defectors from the Congress into the TRS to 11.

Senior Congress leader Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy, who enjoyed very big positions in the party, including chief whip post in the Y S Rajasekhara Reddy regime, defected to the TRS on Monday night, after denying media reports continuously.

The Congress high command respected his seniority and gave him the party ticket from Bhupallpalli to fight against then speaker S Madhusudhana Chary.

His wife Gandra Jyothi, who was made District Congress Committee president ignoring other seniors, also followed her husband to join the TRS.

What is worse is that Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy has claimed that he had taken the decision respecting the aspirations of the people of his constituency.

Since the people had voted for TRS headed by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, he said he had to respect the people’s sentiments.

This is nothing but a shameless statement. The people of Bhupalpalli did not vote for the TRS but the Congress; so, his decision has no support from the people.

If the people of the constituency had faith in KCR’s leadership, they would have voted for Madhusudhana Chary not Gandra. This applies to all the defectors.

Ironically, Gandra also says if necessary, he would quit all the posts that he had got as a Congress leader. Why “if necessary?” Gandra should stand an example for honest leaders by relinquishing his posts immediately before joining the TRS. It is necessary to prove his sincerity.

Unfortunately, the statement was not given by Gandra, but was prepared by the Pragathi Bhavan staff and he had just signed it. In fact, the format of the statement was same for almost all the Congress MLAs who defected to the TRS.

Congress Legislative Party leader Bhatti Vikramarka said the MLAs should feel ashamed to say that they had no faith in the party high command. It was clear that these MLAs were lured by the TRS with money bags and posts, he alleged.
