Polling on for 42 LS seats in Telugu states

Share

Polling was underway on Thursday for the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while in Andhra Pradesh votes were also being cast for the 175-member Assembly.

Officials said 10.6 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the first two hours.

The polling process started amid tight security at 7 a.m. in all constituencies except Telangana’s Nizamabad where it began at 8 a.m. due to the presence of a record number of contestants.

Early voters started queuing up even before the polling centres opened.

Voting will take place in all 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana and all 25 in Andhra Pradesh.

Chief electoral officers in both the states said tht polling was peaceful and smooth except at a few places where the process was delayed due to technical snags in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

They said all the voters standing in queues at the end of the scheduled polling time would be allowed to cast their votes.

The polling in Telangana will end at 5 p.m., except in 13 Maoist-affected Assembly segments under five Lok Sabha constituencies where it will end an hour early. In Nizamabad, the process will continue till 6 p.m.

In Andhra Pradesh, polling will continue till 6 p.m. except in six Maoist-affected Assembly segments. The balloting will end at 4 p.m. in three segments, and at 5 p.m. in three others.

A little over 3.93 crore voters in Andhra Pradesh are eligible to decide the fortunes of 319 candidates for Lok Sabha seats and 2,118 candidates for Assembly polls.

Authorities have set up 46,120 polling stations, of which 9,000 booths are considered “sensitive” — an official euphemism to mean they are prone to violence.

In Telangana, nearly 2.97 crore voters will decide the fortunes of 443 candidates including 25 women in the single-phase polling. The state has 34,603 polling stations including 5,749 “sensitive” ones.

Officials in Hyderabad were monitoring the process through web-casting from over 4,000 polling booths. In other booths, the process is being video recorded.

As many as 3 lakh personnel including about a lakh policemen were deployed to ensure free and fair polling across Telangana. Officials said they were using 79,882 EVMs besides 42,853 control units and 46,731 VVPATs.

The Nizamabad constituency will be entering the record books with a record number candidates and maximum number of EVMs. A total of 185 candidates including 178 farmers are in fray while 12 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in each polling booth.

The farmers filed the nominations to highlight their problems including lack of remunerative prices for their produce.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said since the mock polling in Nizamabad took two hours, the actual polling began at 8 a.m.

Chandrababu Naidu to file review petition on VVPATs

Share

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is planning to file a review petition in Supreme Court over counting of slips in at least 25 per cent of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines in every assembly constituency.

Naidu was speaking to media after casting his vote at Vundavalli polling station in Amaravati. His wife Bhuvaneshwari, son Nara Lokesh and daughter-in-law Nara Brahmani also exercised their franchise.

Naidu said he was upset with the reports that electronic voting machines (EVMs) had failed to function at several places in the state. “Right from the beginning, I have been saying that EVMs are unreliable as they were vulnerable to technical problems. I have been demanding that Election Commission should return to the ballot paper method, as EVMs can be tampered,” he said.

He demanded that at least now, the Election Commission should take a decision on conducting the polls with ballot papers.

To a question, Naidu said he was contemplating filing a review petition in the Supreme Court seeking counting of slips in at least 25 per cent of the VVPAT machines in every constituency so as to crosscheck the genuineness of the EVMs.

Ali and Renu Desai Coming Together to Reveal More?

Share

With love and sweetness, Renu Desai, former wife of Pawan Kalyan has already tried to shame the actor in media a couple of times. And then, we have comedian Ali who has recently made some strong comments on the Janasena president. How about these two coming together to reveal some unknown things?

That is what going to happen as the latest promo of Ali’s TV show “Alitho Saradaga” is anything to go by. While many things about their talk revolved around Badri and Johnny movies, Renu has revealed interesting stuff like how she worked in the editing departments of those films. “I’ve worked on the editing of Kushi and Johnny. You can ask Surya sir, producers or my ex-husband Kalyan garu as proof and I got paid nothing for that” she said.

At the same time, Renu also revealed that her father hasn’t come to see her when she was born. “As I happen to be that girl child, my father hasn’t come to the hospital to see me,” she said, breaking into tears. It looks the show is being aired at the right time on April 15th as many people glue to TV sets due to Summer holidays.

Sai Dharam: Failures are my Teachers

Share

Sai Dharam Tej has shortened his name to Sai Tej in his upcoming release “Chitralahari”. Is this sudden change for numerical sentiment as he is going through worst phase? The young actor replies, “No.” Sai Dharam Tej has further explanation. “This change in name will restrict to this film only. As the film is a cool romantic drama, I wanted a shortened cool name,” he said.

He has given many flops in the recent past and the actor says failures are his best teachers and he would never forget his flop movies because he has learned a lot from them. “I acknowledge failures as they have taught me many things. At least I am still able to show my acting ability,” he reasoned.

He also revealed that Megastar Chiranjeevi guided him in picking up this movie “Chitralahari”. What has learned after these failures?

“I have decided not to take any film to the sets until I get bounded script. I will not green lit based on simple line narrated to me. I want full script now,” he tells. His next film will mostly be directed by Maruthi. “But he has to narrate me full script,” he concludes.
