Chandrababu slams EC over police officials’ transfer

Share

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday protested against the manner in which the Election Commission (EC) transferred three police officials, saying the order was biased and violated the principles of natural justice.

Naidu, in his letter to the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, said he was shocked over the EC’s order to transfer Director General (Intelligence) A.B. Venkateswara Rao, Srikakulam Superintendent of Police Venkata Ratnam and Kadapa Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President alleged that the poll panel’s order was deliberately aimed at benefiting YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) under the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and aided by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

The EC on Tuesday had ordered transfer of three top police officials and directed that they should not be assigned any election-related work.

Naidu wrote it was sad that the EC ordered the transfer of the officials based on just a complaint by the YSRCP and did so in less than 24 hours of the complaint without even a preliminary inquiry.

He said the EC in its order had not even mentioned the reasons for transfers.

“The EC, which has been assigned with the authority of conducting free and fair elections to safeguard democracy, itself conducts its business in the most unfair and undemocratic manner,” he said.

Naidu said that the Director General (Intelligence) was not connected with the conduct of election but was responsible for providing security to him, his cabinet colleagues and senior political leaders.

“Transferring the DG, Intelligence at this hour is nothing but a deep rooted well orchestrated evil design born out of criminal conspiracy hatched by (YSRCP chief) Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, duly abetted by K. Chandrashekhar Rao and Narendra Modi,” said Naidu, alleging that the EC had joined the list of constitutional bodies which are no longer independent.

Pointing out that DG (Intelligence) is not a designated officer under Section 28A of the Representation of People’s Act 1951, Naidu said the EC had no jurisdiction to transfer him and seek a panel of three names from the government to fill the vacancy.

He said Kadapa Superintendent of Police Sharma’s transfer was highly objectionable as he was probing the murder of former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy.

Cong Invites ‘Chevella chellemma’ Back!

The unexpected victory of former minister T Jeevan Reddy and two other Congress-backed candidates in the MLC elections gave the much needed relief to the Congress party in Telangana.

The Congress leaders are hopeful that the results would bring to halt the exodus of party leaders into the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

What is more, they are also hopeful that those who had left the party in haste would also return to the party fold.

On Wednesday, Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer Gudur Narayan Reddy gave a call to those who left the party to come back as the people are disgusted with the TRS.

He particularly invited former minister and Maheshwaram MLA Sabita Indra Reddy to return to the Congress.

“Chevella Chellamma, Malli Ravamma,” he appealed to Sabita. He said Sabita had left the party out of anguish, but he said it would be good for her and the party to come back to the Congress.

He said the mood of people of Telangana was already against TRS in the assembly elections.

“However, chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao manipulated EVMs and indulged in other irregularities to win the polls. The MLC elections, which were held on ballot paper, have proved that it was the Congress, and not the TRS, for whom people have voted in last elections and wants to vote in future. Therefore, the Congress party is bound to win a majority of seats in forthcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

Reddy said teachers, employees and graduates have voted against the TRS-backed candidates in MLC constituencies spread across 42 Assembly segments covering 7 erstwhile undivided districts of Telangana.

Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy has won from a graduate constituency which includes Sircilla (represented by KTR) and Nizamabad (represented by K. Kavitha) with a majority of over 39,000 votes.

“This has proved that the defeat Jeevan Reddy suffered in the last Assembly elections was purely due to EVM manipulation by TRS. Similar is the case with other Assembly constituencies in Telangana,” he said.

How electoral slogans have ensured TDP’s victory

Share

Andhra Pradesh has had a vibrant political history along with a dash of glamour. The Telugu culture and enterprising attitude have seeped even into the state’s politics. Until the early 1980s where the Indian National Congress has had a monopoly, regional parties broke the jinx in that decade, which also saw the birth of the Telugu Desam Party in 1982 in Andhra Pradesh. Founded by film actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), TDP soon became a force to reckon with, as scores of people from across the state began supporting NTR.

During his campaign trail in his Chevrolet van which was called the “Chaitanya Ratham,” he highlighted the ill-treatment of then Chief Minister T. Anjaiah by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. This resonated with the people as NTR had introduced “Telugu vaari aatma gauravam (self-respect of Telugus)” as his election slogan. Additionally, he also highlighted the need to get rid of the Madrasis tag, by those who referred to every South Indian as a Madrasi, without understanding the state’s demography or language.

At every campaign trail or public meeting, NTR highlighted “aatma gauravam” and stoked the sentiment of Telugus. This slogan eventually worked for NTR along with his charisma, eventually giving Telugu Desam Party a thumping win in the 1983 elections with 201 out of total 290 assembly seats.

Interestingly, the 2014 assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation also created a similar scenario of “Seemandhra sentiment” where Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were divided. The wrath of bifurcation was clear in Andhra Pradesh. While the people of Telangana sought a separate state, those from Rayalaseema and Andhra were clearly against. However, the Congress had decided to divide the state against the wishes of the people of AP, apart from putting liabilities in AP’s basket while assets when to Telangana.

The TDP’s election slogan for 2014 assembly elections was “Job Kavalante Babu Ravali (If you want job, Bring Babu Back).” The slogan caught up with the people who put the onus of their future in the TDP chief’s hands. Given that the contest between the TDP and YSR Congress Party in AP elections in 2014 was tight, TDP stood victorious as people put their faith in the proven leadership of N. Chandrababu Naidu, as against Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy who was still seen as a political novice.

Now again, the Telugu Desam Party has come up with the slogan “Mee Bhavishyathu, naa bhadyatha (Your future is my responsibility),” indicating that the party will make the state a model for other states in India if Chandrababu is back as the Chief Minister. This time, however, working a slogan on the lines of TDP’s, YSR Congress party has come up with “Ravali Jagan Kavali Jagan (We want Jagan, we need Jagan).

Going by this, the moot question is will the TDP get lucky this time too, with its catchy slogan? We are yet to witness it.

Naidu Offers MLC to Janasena Candidate SPY Reddy

Share

After being denied Nandyal parliament ticket for SPY Reddy’s daughter, the senior political leader has left Telugu Desham party and joined Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena. In Jana Sena, SPY Reddy and family is rewarded with one MP and 3 assembly seats in Kurnool.

But the senior, who switched his loyalties to TDP after winning on YSRCP ticket in 2014 polls, has received an open offer from TDP supreme Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who addressed a road show in Nandyal. Babu urged SPY Reddy to extend his support for TDP and to become a part of Nandyal development. He even went a step ahead and offered MLC seat for Reddy’s family, if they come out in support of TDP.

During his roadshow, Babu took potshots at opposition parties and promised an outer ring road for Nandyal. He added, ‘Nandyal should be made a seperate district and to make it possible, voters of Nandyal should give us a high majority.’

Babu, who made an attempt to appease SPY Reddy and his followers, said that he will not ignore his family. ‘Due to some internal reasons, we could not accommodate Nandyal seat to him. But, I will stand by their family. Soon after the polls, I will make Nandyal a seperate disty and we will work towards making it a smart city. Also, we will turn the agriculture College into an agriculture University.’

So, it remains to be seen if SPY Reddy will be ready to ditch Jana Sena, which gave him one MP and 3 MLA tickets to his family, to support TDP.

Telangana govt objects Polavaram Again!

Share

The Government of Telangana which gave full consent to construction of Polavaram project, at the time of state bifurcation, has yet again approached Supreme Court to raise its objection. Representing Telangana government, the state General Administration Department principal secretary Ramakrishna Rao has filed an affidavit in apex court on Tuesday. This was in response to the petition filed by Senior Congress leader and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy.

In its fresh attempt to stall Polavaram, Telangana government said that the design, which received an environmental clearance in 2005, is no where close to the current design. The design that got clearance was for 30 lakh cusecs, but it is not planned for 50 lakh cusecs. The KCR government made an appeal to Supreme Court to direct AP to take a fresh environmental clearance for the new design. While informing that AP govt is already utilising the Godavari water through Pattiseema project, Telangana government also appealed to allocate its share from Pattiseema. Also, in the affidavit, Govt demanded a national project like Polavaram for Telangana as well.

The Telangana state government also wanted Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Rangareddy projects to be declared as national projects. Finally, the affidavit requested forb quick resolution of state division problems which are still pending. Though many committees are working on ground, several issues between two states are still left pending, alleged Telangana state.

Pic Talk: Jagan Flanked By Hotties Left And Right

Share

It’s rare that our Telugu directors and heroines pose hand in hand or hug in a hug as it happens in the North. Many Bollywood directors put their hand around the waist of their star heroines and pose for the press. But never we see Tollywood’s directors do the same.

Some say that Telugu directors are more shy and worried about what will happen to their family life if they wrap hands around a heroine in that way. But there is one director in the industry who is known for his Bollywood-ish culture and he’s Puri Jagan.

If we look at how he posed from the wrap party of “Ismart Shankar” from Goa, with Charmi flanked on his right and Nidhi Aggarwal to his left, and the director’s comfort in holding them dear, surely Puri Jagan looks a notch higher than how our directors parade their image usually.

Nothing much to say as the pic speaks bigger for itself when it comes to Puri’s casual posing with the leading lady of his film and with the executive producer of his movie, who happens to be a retired heroine.

KA Paul’s Gold Chain Snatched During Campaign?

Share

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=132&v=b7fMfIaj9-E

With the comedy that is already dousing around KA Paul not being enough, now some speculative theories are flashing up in the media, along with proofs. Here comes a video that is doing rounds everywhere, where something mischievous could be spotted.

Dressed from top to bottom in urbane style joggers, tee and a Nike cap, evangelist and Praja Santhi party president, KA Paul is actually jogging in Bhimavaram other day in the morning when he was caught by few media folks. As cameras are stormed on his face, he has made his usual sarcastic and hilarious comments on Chandrababu, Pawan Kalyan and Jagan. There comes the twist now.

As this is happening, some guys are seen adorning his neck with rose-garlands and later another man pulled them out upon Paul’s insistence. But while pulling out, it could be noticed bit unclearly in the video that his gold chain was snatched away. Some say that it is just a silver thread of rose garland that has given such flash, while many confirm that its indeed Paul’s gold chain.

In case if that is true, if these petty thieves pluck the chain of a Chief Minister aspirant, one wonders what that aspirant is going to do to provide a security blanket for the whole state.

Upset with TDP, Harsha Kumar may launch new political party

Share

Former MP and senior Congress leader G.V. Harsha Kumar, who had recently joined the Telugu Desam Party, has been upset with the party high command ever since his name did not figure out in the list of as Amalapuram MP candidate. Now, there is news that he will not be contesting in the 2019 elections and has chosen to stay away from the polls.

However, a section of leaders close to the senior Congress leader say that he is planning to launch a new political party. Apparently, his party will be focussed on attracting the dalit voter in state as they number upto 68 lakh. He is planning to meet Manda Krishna Madiga and other leaders from the community to decide on an action plan.

Speaking to reporters, Harsha Kumar stated that Jana Sena and YSR Congress Party had insulted him and had approached him just before the polls last time too. However, he said he was happy with TDP’s invitation and expected a ticket. After not being given a ticket, though Harsha Kumar did not voice his criticism against the TDP, he seems to be disappointed and has chosen to work on his own party.

Looks like this election season is going to offer voters very many options.
