Keerthy Suresh hoped to have double dhamaka this Sankranthi as two of her big movies are in the box-office fray. One is ‘Agnyaathavaasi’ in Telugu and the other is ‘TSK’ aka ‘Gang’ in Tamil.

Keerthy Suresh received a jolt with her Telugu biggie. The film not only bombed, but she also got severe criticism for her role. She played a dumbest role.

In fact, she has become a laughing stock thanks to the silly scenes she is a part of in the film. In one particular scene, she follows the hero to the toilet when she sees him for the first time.

Now that her first Pongal release disappointed her, she is pinning high hopes on her Tamil biggie with Suriya.

The Suriya starrer is a remake of the Bollywood blockbuster ‘Special 26’. In the original Kajal Aggarwal played Keerthy’s role. Kajal’s was not a big role in the original movie; she appears just as a love interest of hero.

However, director Vignesh Sivan says he changed the original Hindi movie and fleshed out Keerthy’s character. So, will she get at least one hit this Pongal?

While many leading stars are happy to lend their face to fairness creams, social responsibility be damned, Sushant Singh Rajput has decided to steer clear of such commercials.

Turns out, the actor recently rejected a fairness cream endorsement deal for which he was apparently being offered a fee of Rs 15 crore.

A source says, “Sushant doesn’t believe in endorsing such products. So despite it being a lucrative offer, he immediately turned it down. He feels that he needs to be responsible about the kind of products he lends his face to, as several people look up to him.”

The three-year-long deal apparently required Rajput to shoot for six commercials, which would follow the trope of the fairness cream helping an underdog elevate his social standing.

“As responsible actors, it is our duty to not indulge in sending out incorrect messages. We should not, in any way, endorse or promote the ideology of preferring one skin tone over another.”

In the past, Kangana Ranaut had refused to be associated with similar products. Priyanka Chopra too had expressed her regret at having promoted a skin lightening cream early on in her career.

Big heroes turning up in short films is a rarity in Telugu Film Industry. Recently Allu Arjun has come up with his own short film ‘I Am The Change’ to create awareness in the society about being responsible. And now Jr NTR and Vijay Devarakonda are likely to join this brigade.

Roping in celebs like Jr NTR, Vijay and none other than Baahubali director Rajamouli, Hyderabad Police are coming up with some unique short films. In the part of a campaign against crimes, these short films are aimed at bringing awareness to Hyderabad city’s citizens.

Till date five films are made with these three celebs each in one film and also the Censor Board certified them too. These films deal with issues like OTP fraud, social media harassments, job frauds, multi-level marketing and matrimonial fraud. It is heard that very soon Telangana government will release them officially.

So, celebs coming up to create awareness of crimes is a good thing, and police say, ‘we have picked those celebs who have no criminal records’.

Ranga Reddy district police on Thursday filed a case under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act against film producer-actor Bandla Ganesh and his brother Shiva Babu for abusing a Dalit couple in a land dispute.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Surender, Bandla Ganesh entered into an agreement with one Dr Dilip Chandra of Shadnagar town for purchase of lands and poultry farms on the outskirts of Boorgula village of Farookhnagar mandal.

As per the agreement, Bandla Ganesh was supposed to pay certain amount as advance to Dr Dileep, so that the latter could clear all his bank loans taken by him by mortgaging the properties, so that they could be registered in the name of Bandla Ganesh.

However, the producer could not pay the advance amount on time, as a result of which the bank authorities seized the properties and the house of Dr Dileep Chandra.

Subsequently, Dr Dileep got the properties registered in the name of Ganesh through bank authorities. However, Ganesh did not pay the balance amount to Dr Dileep.

When he, along with his wife Krishna Veni (who is also the local municipal councillor) went to the poultry farm of Bandla Ganesh, the latter abused them and refused to pay the amount. Bandla Ganesh’s brother Shiva Babu also abused them referring to their caste.

Based on the complaint given by councillor Krishna Veni, the police booked a case against Bandla Ganesh and his brother, the ACP said.

Ever since there is mixed and negative talk about Agnyaathavaasi doing rounds, many film industry experts are worried about the collections of the film. But after looking second-day occupancy rates and first day’s mammoth 39+ crores share collected, it looks like the film is going to take trade pundits by a surprise.

Apparently, inside the film, we have a hero and his father’s character coming up with ‘Plan B’ for everything. To face his enemies, hero’s father will create his own son as a Plan B. Coming to reality, while Agnyaathavaasi is Plan A for Telugu audiences, Plan B is a choice to watch other movies like Jai Simha, Rangula Ratnam and also Gang. And now that this Pawan Kalyan starrer got poor reviews, many felt like Plan B will work at box office.

But in reality, talk is coming like all other films in the race are movies with content that appeals to limited sections of the audience. While Jai Simha is purely mass, Gang is dubbed film and Rangularatnam is a pure A-centre film. In that case, Agnyaathavaasi will have its advantage even with a below average talk.

Trade experts are saying that nearly 65-75 crores ‘share’ will be coming for this film as Trivikram’s ‘Plan A’ has that star power and ability to stand the rough weather even. Let’s see what happens.
